Lipstick lesbian or Butch lesbian?

Let's see if I can do better this time. I started this thread and had to delete it because I wasn't clear and i was afraid I'd offend someone.

Okay. Since most of us here don't know what the others look like (usually a clear indication of whether one is a lipstick lesbian (LL) or more of a butch lesbian (BL) or even somewhere in between (IBL) I think by reading her posts we should be able to determine which the poster is by:

1) If she refers to what she wearing underneath as lingerie she is a LL. If she refers to it as underwear she's a BL.

2) If she likes opera rather than NASCAR she is a LL. If it's the reverse she's BL.

3) If she wears says she wore a skirt on her date she's a LL. If she wore jeans she's a BL.

4) If she says she reads smutty, sexy fanfic then she's all of the above (who doesn't read them?) LOL

So here's my clue ladies. I'm wearing a short, red, white and yellow plaid skirt and a white, silk blouse. And I'm putting my clean, just washed, intimates in my lingerie drawer.

Well this is no secret to Betsy but here goes. I'm wearing tennis shorts, a tank top, running shoes, plus I had my hair done yesterday and .....what the heck......even before going running I put on some make-up. Oh. I like football too.

Please, be very careful with this. I love opera, I have a degree in Music History, I detest NASCAR, and I'm basically so butch that people call me "sir" on an almost-daily basis. Also, I know a lot of really girly straight women who love, love, love NASCAR (I think they're hot for the drivers).

Whatever, I love the thread. It's fun. And my underwear drawer is full of boxer shorts and tank tops. So there.

Uh. Uh-o. I'm not sure I'm going to fit into either category smoothly. Definitely closer to butch than lipstick:

I hate makeup (just the smell on someone else is gross), I hate skirts and dresses but I will wear them to a funeral or wedding, I don't like Nascar nor Opera but I guess I like Opera better if I had to choose. I have my hair incredibly short (1.5 razor) and get called sir regularly but I do call my underwear lingere. Oh, and I have a few pairs of boxers but they're more for casual shorts than actual undies.

Hmmm, well I detest both opera and NASCAR so that one won't work! But I'm currently wearing a dark grey skirt and stockings with a tight cotton top because I'm at work, I pretty much always wear skirts to work because I enjoy wearing them (oneo f my favourites happens to be pink with red flowers!) but I seldom ever wear make-up apart from a little foundation because A. I can't be bothered putting it on and more importantly B. It's bad for your skin! I have long, wavy hair and can't imagine ever cutting it.
But on the weekend I live in skate shorts, ride a BMX and a road bike, play indoor soccer and play Star Wars Battlefront on my PS2...so I'm a bit of a mix and people who don't know me are generally surprised to find I'm gay.

For the first I refer to my panties and all as Lingerie because well... that's the french word... if it was the lingerie like actually lingerie is with the english word I would call it sexy lingerie. Lol

For the second... I have no clue about what NASCAR is... so I'll say opera.

For the third... I never wear skirt for a simple reason: I have "big" thighs and they rub together when I am wearing skirts and then burn my skin... Which hurts a lot. But without that it would be a thing happening like once or twice a year.

For the fourth... yep... it will not help! lol I do read them...

Anyway... I am not a LL for sure... And I don't feel like BL... so I'll say I am in between.

Isn't the whole NASCAR thing more of a American Midwestern thing than anything else? Just sayin', is all.

I wear jeans and black t-shirts like it's a uniform, underwear but no boxers, rarely wear makeup but often perfume, listen to opera and musical theater, and do woodworking. So, probably more on the butch side of in between.
I've also been called "sir". And somewhat recently, which is odd considering I have past shoulder length hair and was wearing it down.

Good thread, But what I have to ask is where do I fit in. I am not a lesbian I am bi-sexual so....Also How can whether one wears jeans be determined as whether one is feminie or not? There are some really classy black trousers out there and they can be easily made girlie with a cool belt and the outfit can be made more girlie with some cute Jewelry. Plus people have different reason's for not wanting to show their legs off. I have scars on mine so that is the reason why I wear black trousers but my clothes make up and hair is very very girlie. Plus I think femininity is also seen within manners and, the way a woman laughs and just the way she carries herself so it may be something within rather than what culture dictates. Also one must bear in mind about the weather- England has something like 154 days of rain a year so we are all no matter whaty gender or sexuality, often in trousers and jeans because it is too cold lol.

I also want to just add- this is not an attack it is just a thought. I was speaking to one of my "friends" who is somewhat stereotypical when it comes to Lesbian and bi- sexual things and I just want to say that sometimes the whole "very girlie with butch girlfriend" thing doesn't go together allways. In the past a girlfriend of mine was very girlie but she wore jeans so doesn't mean that Jeans make a person butch and she had girlie hair and wore make up, and the girlfriend I have now is very girlie as am I.

I studied media and cultural; studies at UNI and we looked into fashion and how that depicts a person to be and what one must remember is your clothes and identity are ofetn influenced by the people arfound you and the culture in which you live. Be it your boyfriend/girlfriend/parents/friends etc, and so while a person may dress to fit in with a social group she hangs out with her traits will still be the same, if not emphasized or indeed hidden by the clothing. The message is people judge sometimes too much with their eyes Good thread though welldone!

Oooops. I seem to have misled people a bit. Those 4 examples weren't particularly meant to be full proof indications as to what determines if she is a LL, a IBT or a BL. I was just trying to probe the subject and inspire a discussion and perhaps have others post their examples. I didn't mean to suggest that if you wore jeans you were, without doubt, BL. I wear jeans, and flannel shirts at times but I'm girlie. My girlfriends are LLs. But that doesn't mean I haven't found cute BLs unattractive too. I'm sorry that my examples seemed to be flat out truth-isms.



At the same time they can be indicators. I, for one,do not own a pair of boxers. My undies are feminine in every way. But to each their own LOL. I know hair style is an indicator often. But we don't see pictures of those that post here so can we ascertain (is that a word?) how to tell what a particular poster is like by reading her posts? I know I've been fooled by a couple of you but that didn't surprise me at all since I'm not the most perceptive person in the world.



Anyway, I've only been here a short time so I haven't read enough to have made a determination (that's my story and I'm sticking to it) but I admit to have been curious as to whether 'she' was LL, IBT or BL.

i wear feminine tailored suits to work everyday, and jeans, t-shirts, polo on the weekends. i have shoulder length hair. i do not have any athletic ability or own any power tools. i hold doors open for women. i always sleep in the wet spot. i haven't worn a dress in ten years. i wear undies from victoria's secret and have never worn boxers as an undergarment.

As for me, I dig tractors and other power equipment.
I have also discovered lately that just letting guys get their "help the chick" kicks by say, greasing said tractor, or bringing over tools to grind mower blades is just fine and dandy. Whatever - I just need the work done. Pride, shmide, I have too much to do already.

However, my ex, who wore some make up, skirts and dresses, and loved to coyly flirt with ... anyone really ... always thought she was more butch than I. Go figure.

Well I'll never be mistaken as a BL although I've always been quite athletic and in many ways I was a tom boy. At pick-up volleyball games I like to spike on the guys just to let them know I can. If they don't know me it always brings out a roar.......and some measure of respect. On the other hand I love short skirts and frilly blouses. My bras are nothing overly sexy and my panties are the white cotton, school girl kind. By the way, never wear thongs. Does anyone know how they look from the back when you wear them? Okay, that's just a personal taste thing.

So like the others who have posted here I guess I'm a combination but mostly LL. Also I'm pretty well attracted to just about every type of lez (shut up Betsy) and when I want to be attractive I do wear make-up.

Here's something that I find to be a bit unusual, I like girls who wear glasses. It must be that they look intelligent and I admire intelligence and am not afraid or intimidated by it. That I'm not as bright as my girl doesn't matter. It's why I like the fanfic here. It stuns me as to how well most of it is written. You guys are all so smart.
