Ok, I have to admit I have a major one that I suspect most of you don't know about. In terms of those who are in the know it's called a 'sleepy fetish'. It's a fantasy so it's nothing that actually happens but I've had it for as long as I remember. I've been aroused by seeing scenes of it in the movies, on TV and even comic books. I usually don't confide in anyone about it because I use to think it made me strange. Now, I've come to accept it in myself because it's such a turn on for me that I can't hide it from those that are close to me in a romantic way. Some women like bondage, some have a foot fetish and so on. Mine is being knocked out (fantasy wise) by another woman. Or vice versa. I've had lovers who acted it out with me and it has made sex fantastic. For me at least. I doubt if it did the same for them but they did benefit.

Fetishes, I've learned, are powerful stimulants as long as they don't become an obsession and completely dominate a persons sex life.

Well that's my major fetish. Lingerie and girls kissing affect me too but not as powerfully as the 'unconscious/sleepy girl' one. It's one of the reasons I fell in love with the BTVS series.

Interesting thread. Hmmm well I like the idea of bondage yes but just something fairly gentle like with silk or something, an ex of mine tried that with me and that was a big turn on. Also Lingerie but I think the most important thing is that when two lovers are making love that there is complete trust there and understanding because otherwise I think that without that the fetish idea would be ruined. The truth is I might have misunderstood what a fetish was. I kinda thought it was something that turned you on and made 'making out' and what follows even more enjoyable. Definition 1c seems to debunk that to some degree.

Everyone has different views to what a fetish is and having a dictioonary dsefinition as the only meaning can be misleading because while the dictionary definition talks about the literal meaning of what it is, there is no human element to it. What I mean is the dictioonary may suggest a meaning but for how others interpret it, it could cnace the whole thing. Not that dictioonaries are wrong because of course not, but when there is a social and cultual meaning also implied with the word "fetish" I also tend to agree with Cathy on the most understood meaning beinbg what she said. When I think of "fetish" I think of outfits and fantasies which make being with your partner in intimate sitiations more enjoyable. Sop they are both right in my opinion.

i think it's universally accepted that a fetish is a fixation distinct from that which just turns you on or is fun to play around (or a particular celebrity - unless of course you find it impossible to get off unless fantasizing about chloe sevigny). body part fetish? sure. certain inanimate objects (heels, stuffed animals)? ok. but like i said, read a book on human sexuality and you'll understand that it's different than stuff that just turns you on, or that you like to incorporate into your sex on occasion (and in a lot of cases the fetishes can become very detrimental to relationships and healthy sexual expression).. obviously you're free to continue to confuse the two but the correct information should be out there for those who are interested.
