An all-male heavy-rock quartet calling itself...Lesbian

Postby Ben Varkentine » Thu Jan 18, 2007 2:07 pm

Oh, lord. I can't decide if I think this is more offensive, funny, or just fucking stupid. I just got an email in my inbox promoting an all-male heavy rock quartet from Seattle, the city where I live, or at least exist.

The band's name is LESBIAN. Because it's name evokes pure, sexually-charged freedom -- and that's what rock is all about.

But of course it is.

The CD name? Power Hör (get it, get it, huh?). Including a song called "Loadbath."

I also note that they seem to have taken the webpages-

www.lesbianwitch.com & www.myspace.com/lesbianwitch

-which seems wrong, somehow.

I gave a little listen to the clip they have at their MySpace site. It sounds godawful to me. But it's so not my kind of music-I'm a Beatles fan, among other things-you might not want to go by me on that.

Actually... I'm a hard-rock metalhead person. And honestly? They dont sound that good to me. The guitar is not awfully bad, but I dont feel like it means anything, and the screaming of whatever lyrics they might have just doesnt cut it. I think they were just trying to gain some attention from the name cuz they couldnt cut it with their talent lol.

But then, thats just my opinion as well.

Heh, yeah, I don't know whether to be offended or just laugh either. I am scratching my head over how exactly "lesbian" = "pure, sexually-charged freedom." It would be nice if it did...except I'm not sure I'd really want to be a "power hör." Well, maybe...sometimes. :whistle

I say, if you're going to be a hör, be a power hör. ;-)

A hor (Greek) is a chorus or a choir, so a power hor might have a power chord.

I 'll vote for "if we can't get recognized for our music, let's get noticed for our name." Which of course sometimes works when the band is also actually good (KISS, N.W.A. and many others).

I grew up on a steady diet of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and others, so I'll give them a listen.

Personally, my favorite "lesbian" band has to be Lez Zeppelin, http://www.lezzeppelin.com/.
