Question for lesbians here...

Postby mangled_monkey » Sun Nov 05, 2006 7:48 pm

This is more of an opinion post than anyone else, I would just like some input from other people.

Ok, I'm a lesbian, as well as a huge W/T fan. I made a video featuring our two favorite girls and posted it on youtube. It's a music video, made to the song Now and Forever by Richard Marx. Now, the ONE line in the song that does not work for W/T is the chorus "Now and Forever I will be your MAN."

In my opinion, if the rest of the song fits, you can just imagine a WO in front of the man in the song, and it works perfectly. I will not post the link to the video because it is not KB friendly (it features clips from after the horrendous mistake), but I recieved a reply calling me a sh*t starter. I replied to that that the person should make videos before commenting that sort of thing on someone else's, but she replied back "listen, Sh*t starter, I don't need to put together vids to call you on your worse intentions behind this crap of yours because I'm a lesbian and you only are out to offend lesbians by using this music as if there weren't enough homophobia in this world. Your video is trash, Your intentions are trash and so are you, SH*T STARTER."

I replied back telling her that I am a lesbian, and I made the video for fun and because I enjoy the song, but she still seems to think I am homophobic, as she replied back "Oh, no, honey, however, allow me to apologize for the heat of the last comment. Now, I'll tell you that you don't make any case saying that you are a lesbian so you have some special license to offend others. I've met plenty of gay and lesbian homophobes. Actually that why you can't get married in this country.
I think your work of art is passive aggressive, uncalled for and provocative. You know very well what you're doing and that's why I still think you are a sh*t starter."

My question is this: Does ONE WORD make me homophobic, and make the entire video offensive? I really can't understand why that one word makes a difference and was hoping someone could explain why they feel it does, if indeed someone here agrees with my friend over on youtube.

Lol, we here have a case of a bored person that has nothing better to do than start sh*t on her own. I'm pretty sure the video is good, i mean, it has willow and tara in it :P One word in a song shouldnt really change anything to it. Actually when i watch a vid i dont pay that much attention to the lyrics, more like, the flow of the music with what youre showing.

To top it all: i've been called man quite a few times by friends and peopel i know, jokingly y'know. There's a movie with the title "She's the man". So what the heck is wrong with having I'm gonna be your man in a vid about lesbians? I can be your man being a woman, s'far as I know, with our current society lol.

I agree. I think that whoever it is just doesn't have anything better to do than to start an argument. Sometimes, people have fun provoking others into anger, and then all maturity flies out the window and it's down to "you're stupid" "no YOU'RE stupid", etc.

Looking at the material of the video, it should be obvious to
most that you are merely paying tribute to Willow/Tara, but I guess some people are ultra-sensitive as well. They think that everybody in the world is out to get them and that they have to defend themselves against it. It might be because they've spent their whole lives that way or something has made them become like that.

But to answer your question, no - it's not homophobic at all. You're celebrating something beautiful, homosexual or not. It's not offensive, either, at least to me. Maybe to another person, who has a very much different perspective, but I think to most of us here, not in the least.

I think this person is crazy. :D I have no doubt that you did the best with the song you had, and besides, the video is your own personal creation. You had the inspiration and it was your vision for the work. That gives you the right to do whatever you think fits. Don't pay it any attention. ;)

I hope you don't me butting in here since I'm a guy but I often alter lyrics in my head to make them songs sung by men to men and when I listen to Elton John's Your Song I see Willow and Tara despite 'man' being in the lyrics. If it doesn't fit then you make it fit. :-D

Try not to let the opinion of one person bother you. :)

Hey :wave

Lately i have been lurking more than posting (shame on me, i know :blush) but your thread made me want to post.
Being as I am such a curious kitten (lol) i looked your vid up on youtube and watched it.
I think it is obvious to anyone watching it that it is a tribute to Willow and Tara's relationship and that you in no way, shape or form imply that either of them needed a man to make them happy. Very much on the contrary.

As far as the song goes, well, yes the pronoun is wrong but the feeling is right. It is your video and your vision and personally i see absolutely nothing wrong with it. I don't feel offended at all by it.

Can I chuck my penny's worth in? I reckon it's your vid, so you can do what you like with it. The fact that you are concerned that you've been called homophobic, in my opinion, means that you aren't.

If I were you I would ignore the woman with so much time on her hands. She really should spend it attacking the people who are deliberately making this world harder for us. If she needs a list of politicians to write to instead, I'm sure I can keep her busy for weeks...

Thank you all for responding. As a slight update, the woman is still annoying, and I have reported her messages as spam. I'm not sure what that does on youtube, but... she's been reported.

Krokador- I seem to see your name on just about all of my posts. *sends many many hugs* you rock, dude. Haha, dude! That's a term for a guy! :party

diamondforever- What gets me is, I put at the end of the video that I made it in the first place because I like the song. Thank you very much for responding.

keme- Butt in all you want, guys are fun too! :)

Eu Tus Ojos- I hope being marked as a spammer has a similar affect... I dunno, though.

sabina- THANK YOU! I'm glad you weren't offended. I hope you enjoyed the video also. :)

Candleshoe- I think homophobia is like racism in that respect, people are overly sensitve about being called those things only if it doesn't apply. Every actual racist I know is proud of their views... but that's a totally different issue.

And... I really need to get back to fanfic because responding to EVERY response to a thread I posted is now a habit. Sorry for the clutter!!!

Having seen said video a long time ago, and still having it stored right here on the trusty laptop. I say many many bad and mean words to the attention whore lady. Its a good video. Anyone in their right mind would see that its great and you didn't mean any harm by it.

Why would a homeaphobic person make a vid about lesbians?

A pathetic attempt at covert operations?

My two cents...one word means nada to me...I call people dude or man all the time, regardless of gender...it's a hippie thing

lesbians? oh my god!
*starts to make a desperate lesbian-homophobic run for it... but hopes to be captured by a nice woman on the way out*

But seriously, that person has some kind of pain and anger that she isn't projecting on the person that caused it. Becouse I can't magine the word "man" in a song triggering so much rage.

Don't let it get to you ;) if you feel bad about it, try to be happy that you were able to make her release some of the anger inside, that's a good deed, isn't it ;)
(before she builds up so much pain and rage she'll go around all dark-eyed and evil trying to destroy the world :P)
