Brad Pitt Says "I'll Marry When Everyone Can!

Brad Pitt, ever the social activist, says he won't be marrying Angelina Jolie until the restrictions on who can marry whom are dropped.

"Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the ountry who wants to be married is legally able," the 42-year-old actor reveals in Esquire magazine's October issue, on newsstands Sept. 19.

In the article he reflects on "fifteen things I think everyone should know."

Though Shiloh, the world-famous daughter of Pitt and girlfriend/earth other Angelina Jolie, hogged much attention upon her birth in May, Pitt says he "cannot imagine life" without adopted children, Maddox, 5, and Zahara, 1

"They're as much of my blood as any natural born, and I'm theirs," says Pitt. "That's all I can say about it. I can't live without them. So: Anyone considering (adoption), that's my vote."

Pitt, who plays a world traveler in the upcoming drama "Babel," subscribes to a laid-back parenting style.

"I try not to stifle them in any way," he says. "If it's not hurting anyone, I want them to be able to explore. Sometimes that means they're quite rambunctious."

Lucky kids.

"I feel it's really important to have that time to sit and talk to them," he continues. "I really like that last minute before they fade off. And always give them a heads-up before you jerk them out of something. You need to tell them, like, `You have three more minutes.'"

And although I am pleased that he has said what he did - a tiny voice in the back of my mind wonders whether it's a bit like him saying that he and Angelina will be waiting until pigs can exercise their constitutional right to fly...

I think it would make some sense that he'd be hesitant, having been divorced once already. Same for Angelina, since she's only 31 years old and already divorced twice. Personally I think it's nice to see people not look at marriage as the equivalent of disposable tissues (i.e Elizabeth Taylor: 8; Zsa Zsa Gabor: 9; Ernest Borgnine: 5; Richard Burton: 5).

I've been reading a lot of cynical remarks about this (on other boards), and a lot of offensive "why buy the cow" statements, but my perception is that these are two people who seem to be more interested at this point in their lives in advancing causes they care about rather than making career moves. They're both outspoken about social issues, and I for one, think it's great that they're making this stand.

While you can take it cynically, Ever-the-Romantic Me chooses to see this as Pitt's Justice Stand (and NOT "the milk's free"). This is also the same guy doin' righteous rebuilding stuff in Nawlins right now!

Here maybe, but my guess would be that all those opposed to gay marriage in the US and elsewhere, would not find this so diplomatic or be inclined to think better of them. If he really wants to make more ´friends´ in this world he should be getting married and sing the praises of that sacred institution between a man and a woman. It would not even matter that they have both done it before, as long as they are a man and woman doing it, it is moral and right and all is well in the world. Heaven forbid Angelina should be able to marry her girlfriend instead of Brad, that would invalidate all heterosexual marriages and divorces everywhere.

GG: I think the line 'earth other' is a typo for 'earth mother.' As a more inclusive title for 'god mother.' I've heard people using that term before so that's how I interpreted the line in the article.
And might I say WOOHOO for Brad and Angelina!! I think it's great that they are making this stand/statement, no matter what their reasoning. We just got America's #1 couple to put the spotlight on this issue, hopefully open more people's eyes to it, and put some pressure on the suits in office making up these ridiculous laws. Stop telling us what we can and can't do -this is America right? Concentrate on more important matters like our foreign relations, economy, energy problems, and all the other screwups that our society has. Yea for Brangelina!
