Baby Books

Postby gottalovewillow » Mon Jan 16, 2006 5:50 pm

I wasn't sure if there was already a topic regarding this, so if there is (I apologize) please feel free to move it to the appropriate area. I am trying to find a baby book that is for same sex couples and was hoping someone out here might have run across one. If you could share the info, it would be much appreciated. Thanks again!

I don't know so much about same-sex couples, but I give the HIGEST recomendation to The Baby Book: Everything You Need to Know About Your Baby from Birth to Age Two by Martha Sears (M.D.) and William Sears.

My wife and I considered this book our bible when our first was born and still refered to it a lot with our second.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I will definately check it out.

To be more specific, by baby book I mean a book where you put information about your child (birth info, family trees, schools, that type of stuff).

Julie,
First off congratulations (whether it's yours or a friend's). You have just hit on a topic that is very difficult. My partner and I have been so frustrated with the difficulty in finding a good baby book that we've seriously considered writing our own. Currently, we are writing everything down in a computer file to later print out.

But a friend of ours found one and is holding on to it for our next baby. I just e-mailed her and asked the name so I will post it when she writes back. Again, congrats! Debra

Ah!

I understand now.
You know what, I think one of the ones we got have fairly gender neutral in terms of what to put for "mother" and "father". I only remember it because it seemed like I should be seeing more of these, but wasn't.

I'll dig around a bit when I get a chance. A lot of the old newborn stuff has been packed up.

AfterEllen has this : GLBT Themed Childrens Literature

I know this isn't quite what you are looking for, but maybe the publishing houses mentioned might be a starting point?

Hope this helps, and congratulations!

The book that my friend found is called "Our Baby's Beginnings." It is published by www.ourworldourfamily.com. It may be out of print but it's worth checking into. Good luck.
