But I'm A Cheerleader... the musical.

I got to see opening night last night at the New York Musical Theater Festival, and I just about died. It was fantastic. As soon as I heard they were turning one of my favorite movies into a musical, I knew I had to see it! And it did not dissapoint. It's currently completely sold out for every show, but if you get there around 30 minutes early, they start a list. And at 8:00, they see how many empty seats/unclaimed tickets there are and start going down the list (that's how I got in last night). It's only $15, and well worth the money. It's funny as hell and adorable at the same time, and the actors do a great job. There are a couple of overly-cheesy lyrics, but the rest of them made up for it. Plus, the theater is small, so ANY seat is a good seat. I know I, for one, will be back in the cancellation line at least once next week.

Showtimes are pretty randomly scattered, but they're all listed at www.NYMF.com

there's a couple songs up on the NYMF website. Go to the page for But I'm A Cheerleader and scroll down to the bottom where it says "audio" or something like that. There are links to workshop recordings of "Seventeen Is Swell" (the opening number) and "The Intervention" (which is pretty self explanitory if you've seen the movie). They're just workshop recordings, so they aren't the real cast (and really, just listening to "The Intervention" does that scene no justice. It's HILARIOUS), but they're fun to listen to anyways! I really really hope this gets a Broadway run, becuase I want a soundtrack to listen too! (and I don't have the proper booting equipment to do it myself :P)

Well, I managed to see the show not once, but TWICE more. I love it lots.

For people hoping to see it in the future... I'm not actually allowed to say what I know, because there's nothing official yet and I've been told to keep it hush-hush, but let's just say the outlook is good. The show will probably reappear in some form or another.

For the people who were asking for lyrics. I've typed up one of the songs and I'm working on some others (there's a few places where it's hard to hear because my *cough* source is a little fuzzy. Sometimes I guess and sometimes I just write "no idea what they just said". Sorry!)

Lyrics to "This Is How It Feels" (Megan and Graham's Act 2 duet. It really is a such a pretty song! The scene is adorable and Kelly and Chandra have wonderful stage chemistry)

I have to say one of my favorite songs is the finale (which sadly didn't pick up very well on my "source"). It's the sort of song that if I had a better recording of it, I would totally be blasting it out of my subwoofers and dancing like and idiot until my neighbors and/or room mate came and killed me. You can't NOT get into that song if you're in the audience. Every performance I saw, they were standing up and dancing and clapping. It remided me (in spirit) of a very gay version of "You Can't Stop The Beat" from Hairspray.
