For those who don't know what Parkour, also known as Free Running, is it's basically viewing and using urban spaces in a different way. Instead of walking past a building why not climb up on it, walk along the roof and jump back down again. Walking down the stairs? Why not do that by climbing in and out of the railing that runs beside the stairs? There's a website on it here

I noticed immediately after they had those shows about Parkour on Channel 4, Jump London and the other one, a bunch of kids that stay near me started to do it. It seems to be growing in popularity here in Birmingham which only makes sense as it has great architecture for it. I don't partake in the sport myself. I'm far too old and unfit! I used to do something similar when I was a kid. The idea was to get from one end of the block to the other using only people's back garden's which usually involved climbing fence's, jumping between garages and shed's and walking along walls. Great fun.
