It's The Song...

Postby WebWarlock » Fri Aug 27, 2004 5:46 am

Remember that "Seinfeld" episode where Elaine was dating this guy and everytime "Desperado" by the Eagles came on he had to stop and listen to it. No matter what?

Or Eric Cartman and Styx's "Come Sail Away"?

So here we go Kittens, for you what is "The Song"?

It does not have to be your favorite one, or even a really good one, but every time it comes on you have to turn up the stereo a little louder or drive an extra lap around the block to hear it all.

For me The Song is and has been since about 1978, Kanasas - "Carry On (Wayward Son)"

Ever since I saw the movie Heroes I can't get it out of my head. Especially the final scene with Henry Winkler and Sally Field. (By the way, Heroes is also a great movie, rent it sometime).

Funny thing is, I am not a big Kanasas fan, nor is this a particulary great song. There are better songs and better groups. But there is just something about it.

The Foo Fighters do a not so bad version of this song too.

Ok, obligatory lyrics post,

Quote:

Carry on my wayward son

There'll be peace when you are done

Lay your weary head to rest

Don't you cry no more

Once I rose above the noise and confusion

Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion

I was soaring ever higher

But I flew too high

Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man

Though my mind could think I still was a mad man

I hear the voices when I'm dreaming

I can hear them say

Carry on my wayward son

There'll be peace when you are done

Lay your weary head to rest

Don't you cry no more

Masquerading as a man with a reason

My charade is the event of the season

And if I claim to be a wise man, well

It surely means that I don't know

On a stormy sea of moving emotion

Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean

I set a course for winds of fortune

But I hear the voices say

Carry on my wayward son

There'll be peace when you are done

Lay your weary head to rest

Don't you cry no more

No!

Carry on, you will always remember

Carry on, nothing equals the splendor

Now your life's no longer empty

Surely heaven waits for you

Carry on my wayward son

There'll be peace when you are done

Lay your weary head to rest

Don't you cry no more

So all, what is The Song for you?

For me people might think me strange. Its not a song you'll hear on the radio, at least not unless its a Pagan Radio station. Recorded on: "Ancient Mother," Robert Gass and On Wings of Song, sung by Divy Nelson. Its based on a traditional wiccian invocation.

The Circle Is Cast

By the earth, this is her body,

by the earth, mother of us all,

by the earth, future and past.

the circle is cast, the circle is cast

By the air, this is her breath,

by the air sweet wind of life,

by the air, from the first to the last,

the circle is cast, the circle is cast

By the fire of her bright spirit,

shining candles in the night,

by the fire of her bright spirit,

oh shine - shine your light on me

By the waters, this is her blood,

by the waters, the calm and the flood,

by the living waters, running slow running fast,

the circle is cast now, the circle is cast

(There is also names of the Goddess chanted at the end of this song)

When I listen to this Cd, I usually will listen to that one song over and over many times. Anywho... that would be 'the song' for me.

Oh, I love this thread Tim!

In early 1985 a very dear friend of mine was hit and killed by a drunk driver. We were kids and we loved to sit around in the dark and listen to music. His favorites were Van Halen and Journey. I don't really have a particular song so much as an Album. Journey 'Escape' I don't care where I am or who I'm with if I hear a cut from that album I have to stop and listen. The last time my group of friends got together with him, we all got super juiced on cheap mad dog 20/20 wine and sang 'open arms'. I can still smell the candles burning and taste the sweet wine. Man could he Jam an air guitar! He was a beautiful soul and I can only imagine what he would have done with his amazing singing talents.

Open Arms

Lying beside you, here in the dark

Feeling your heart beat with mine

Softly you whisper, you're so sincere

How could our love be so blind

We sailed on together

We drifted apart

And here you are by my side

So now I come to you, with open arms

Nothing to hide, believe what I say

So here I am with open arms

Hoping you'll see what your love means to me

Open arms

Living without you, living alone

This empty house seems so cold

Wanting to hold you, wanting you near

How much I wanted you home

But now that you've come back

Turned night into day

I need you to stay.

The song that I stop everything for is an old one that shows up on oldies type stations rarely. It is by REO Speedwagon, I'm not really a fan but the song held special meaning for me.My first girlfriend, just a friend at the time, reached across the table after dinner one night held my hands gazed lovingly into my eyes and sang it to me to express the way she felt about me.I had been hopelessly in love with her for sometime and didn't dare think that she could ever feel the same about me.It's a long one the lyrics now follow:

I can't fight this feeling any longer.
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow.
What started out as friendship,
Has grown stronger.
I only wish I had the strength to let it show.

I tell myself that I can't hold out forever,
I said there is no reason for my fear.
Cause I feel so secure when we're together.
You give my life direction,
You make everything so clear.

And even as I wander,
I'm keeping you in sight.
You're a candle in the window,
On a cold,dark winter's night.
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might.

And I can't fight this feeling anymore.
I've forgotten what I started fighting for.
It's time to bring this ship into the shore,
And throw away the oars,forever.

Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore.
I've forgotten what I started fighting for.
And if I have to crawl upon the floor,
Come crashing through your door,
Baby,I can't fight this feeling anymore.

My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you.
I've been running around in circles in my mind.
And it always seems that I'm following you, girl,
Cause you take me to the places,
That alone I'd never find.

And even as I wander,
I'm keeping you in sight.
You're a candle in the window,
On a cold,dark winter's night.
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might.
Then verse 4 repeats
Ending with verse 5.

My best friend growing up was a huge Who and Pete Townshend fan. In 1982, he passed away from leukemia that he was diagnosed with in 1979. The doctors only gave him 6 months when first diagnosed but he hung in there for another 2 1/2 years. I still miss and love him very much. So for me, the song is "Let My Love Open the Door".

This one's for you George!

LET MY LOVE OPEN THE DOOR

When people keep repeating

That you'll never fall in love

When everybody keeps retreating

But you can't seem to get enough

Let my love open the door

Let my love open the door

Let my love open the door

To your heart

When everything feels all over

When everybody seems unkind

I'll give you a four leaf clover

Take all the worry out of your mind

Let my love open the door

Let my love open the door

Let my love open the door

To your heart

I have the only key to your heart

I can stop you falling apart

Try today, you'll find this way

Come on and give me a chance to say

Let my love open the door

It's all I'm living for

Release yourself from misery

There's only one thing gonna set you free

That's my love

Let my love open the door

Let my love open the door

Let my love open the door

To your heart

When tragedy befalls you

Don't let it drag you down

Love can cure your problems

You're so lucky I'm around

Let my love open the door

Let my love open the door

Let my love open the door

To your heart

Now serving Bitter, party of one. Your table is ready.

Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper. I played guitar while a friend sang in a high school Arts concert. That summer she killed herself. Not a very happy story but the song always gets me, and reminds me that you never know what's going on inside another persons head so always be as kind as you can.

Time After Time

1983

by C.Lauper and R.Hyman

Lying in my bed i hear the clock tick,

and think of you

caught up in circles confusion -

is nothing new

Flashback - warm nights -

almost left behind

suitcases of memories,

time after -

Sometimes you picture me -

I'm walking to far ahead

you're calling to me, I can't hear

what you've said -

Then you say - go slow -

I fall behind -

the second hand unwinds

Chorus

If you're lost you can look - and you will find me

time after time

If you fall I will catch you - I'll be waiting

time after time

After my picture fades a darkness has

turned to gray

watching through windows -

you're wondering if I'm O.K.

secrets stolen from deep inside

the drum beats out of time -

You said go slow -

I fall behind

the second hand unwinds -

If you're lost...

...time after time

time after time

time after time

time after time

I"ve got a couple of these songs...the first is "The Path of Thorns (Terms)" by Sarah McLachlan. I once listened to it on repeat for about 4 hours at work, as I kept getting interrupted and couldn't concentrate on the song, so had to play it again..

and most Toad the Wet Sprocket songs make me stop what I'm doing. At the moment, the one song would be "Dam would break"...

Dam Would Break

Toad the Wet Sprocket

------------------

Lyrics courtesy www.toadbase.com

Is it this place that makes me fall from you

Forget the words that once rang so true

Did we expect that life was ever fair, my god...

I sowed a field of rose and reaped a whipping rod

And everything I've held too tight inside

Could make a part of me die

And if my lips could only speak the name

The dam would break

What is this ice that gathers 'round my heart

To stop the flood of warmth before it even starts

It would make me blind to what I thought would always be

The only constant in the world for me

And every hour of every day

I need to fight from pulling away

And if my mind could only loose the chain

The dam would break

For all the things I hid away

And all the words I could not say

The dam would break

The year was 1985 and I was a very young 19 years old. I went to spend the summer with my sister who lived in Hull, MA. Her apartment was across the street from the beach. I spent the summer working in a video store, so I brought home movies every night. One night we watched, "The Deer Hunter." We both love the movie, and especially the bar scene where the guys sing "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," by Frankie Valli. We bought the cassette the next day and would take the boom box to the beach every weekend and crank it up and sing along.

"Can't Take My Eyes Off You" by Franki Valli & the Four Seasons

You're just too good to be true.

Can't take my eyes off you.

You'd be like Heaven to touch.

I wanna hold you so much.

At long last love has arrived.

And I thank God I'm alive.

You're just too good to be true.

Can't take my eyes off you.

Pardon the way that I stare.

There's nothing else to compare.

The sight of you leave me weak.

There are no words left to speak.

But if you feel like I feel.

Please let me know that it's real.

You're just too good to be true.

Can't take my eyes off you.

I love you, baby

And if it's quite alright,

I need you baby,

To warm a lonely night,

I love you, baby,

Trust in me when I say:

Oh, pretty baby,

Don't bring me down, I pary,

Oh, pretty baby, now that I found you, stay

And let me love you, baby,

Let me love you

The song repeats the first verse and then the chorus again.

This was my mom favorite song.... When ever I hear it I have to stop and listen to it so I can remeber what she looks like rocking out in the car to it.... It is James Taylor's "your smiling face"

Your Smiling Face

Whenever I see your smiling face, I have to smile myself because I love you, yes, I do.

And when you give me that pretty little pout, it turns me inside out.

There's something about you, baby, I don't know.

Isn't it amazing a man like me can feel this way,

tell me how much longer, it could grow stronger every day. Oh, how much longer?

I thought I was in love a couple of times before with the girl next door,

but that was long before I met you, now I'm sure that I won't forget you.

And I thank my lucky stars that you are who you are,

and not just another lovely lady set out to break my heart.

Isn't it amazing a man like me can feel this way,

tell me how much longer, it could grow stronger every day.

No one can tell me that I'm doing wrong today, whenever I see you smile at me.

No one can tell me that I'm doing wrong today whenever I see your smiling face my way.

No one can tell me that I'm doing it wrong today.

No one can tell me that I'm doing it wrong today.

Boy oh boy I miss Her

Gosh, everyone else's song is sentimental in some way. Mine is just, well...bizarre. The song I will blast and sit out in the parking lot to hear the rest of even if I'm late for an appointment is More Human than Human by White Zombie. Why? I have no earthly clue! I can't even tell what he's saying most of the time! (Although I did look up the lyrics and will refrain from posting them here.:eek ) I guess it's just that gut-wrenching "Listen-to-me-or-I'll-throttle-you" sound it has. It's something my mother would not hesitate to call "trash". Color me :crazy

I like this thread, but it was surprisingly difficult for me to answer the question, personally.

But two songs came to mind as "radio-crankers" (neither of them terribly original to me---if you had a radio in the Seventies, you know them): "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin, and "More Than a Feeling" by Boston.

Quote:
Whole Lotta Love

You need coolin’, baby, I’m not foolin’,

I’m gonna send you back to schoolin’,

Way down inside honey, you need it,

I’m gonna give you my love,

I’m gonna give you my love.

Wanna whole lotta love?

Wanna whole lotta love?

Wanna whole lotta love?

Wanna whole lotta love?

You’ve been learnin’, baby, I bean learnin’,

All them good times, baby, baby, I’ve been yearnin’,

Way, way down inside honey, you need it,

I’m gonna give you my love,

I’m gonna give you my love.

Wanna whole lotta love?

Wanna whole lotta love?

Wanna whole lotta love?

Wanna whole lotta love?

(various mumblings and screechings with cool effects) [GG: I love that description!]

You’ve been coolin’, baby, I’ve been droolin’,

All the good times I’ve been misusin’,

Way, way down inside, I’m gonna give you my love,

I’m gonna give you every inch of my love,

Gonna give you my love.

Yeah! all right! let’s go!

Wanna whole lotta love?

Wanna whole lotta love?

Wanna whole lotta love?

Wanna whole lotta love?

Way down inside, woman,

You need love.

Shake for me, girl

I wanna be your backdoor man.

Hey, oh, hey, oh

Oh, oh, oh

Keep a-coolin’, baby,

Keep a-coolin’, baby.

Quote:
More Than a Feeling

I looked out this morning and the sun was gone

Turned on some music to start my day

I lost myself in a familiar song

I closed my eyes and I slipped away

It’s more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)

I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)

’till I see marianne walk away

I see my marianne walkin’ away

So many people have come and gone

Their faces fade as the years go by

Yet I still recall as I wander on

As clear as the sun in the summer sky

It’s more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)

I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)

’till I see marianne walk away

I see my marianne walkin’ away

When I’m tired and thinking cold

I hide in my music, forget the day

And dream of a girl I used to know

I closed my eyes and she slipped away

She slipped awa y. she slipped away.

It’s more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)

I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)

’till I see marianne walk away

I see my marianne walkin’ away

Firstly, loving this thread, its cool.

Secondly, I found this crazy difficult to come up with an answer to. There are so many songs that the radio is turned up to, but there were two that eventually jumped up and smacked me in the face!

1) Breathe Easy, Blue

2) You'll Never Walk Alone, Gerry and the Pacemakers.

Really, I'm much too young for Gerry and the Pacemakers, but its the anthem of my beloved soccer team, and it gives me shivers every time I hear it, remembering being in the Kop every home game and singing it with 40,000 other people. :) It's an amazing feeling. Those were the days, before my parents decided to make living in this country completely unbearable by moving away from Liverpool and therefore taking my season ticket away. :( I'm now like, 4 hours from Liverpool, and I just can't get up there more than twice a season anymore. Sucks. :( Anyway, Breath Easy mean a lot to me because I can't help but think of my (recently) ex-girlfriend when I hear it. She's decided that she's walking the straight path right now, after nearly a year of being together. Long distance relationships are evil. Anyway, you guys don;t need to know the huge story and I promised I wouldn;t tell anyone else about what happened when I went to visit her to try and fix things last week. I'm feeling weirdly detached from it all at the moment, and I can;t really believe it. But this song seems to get me. Anyway, onto the songs:

Quote:
Breathe Easy- Blue

Cruel to the eye

I see the way he makes you smile

Cruel to the eye

Watching him hold what used to be mine

Why did I lie?

What did I walk away to find?

Oh why? Oh why?

CHORUS

I can't breathe easy

I cant sleep at night

Til you're by my side

Oh I can't breathe easy

I can't dream yet another dream without you lying next to me

There's no air

Curse me inside

For every word that caused you to cry

Curse me inside

I won't forget no I won't baby I

Don't know why (I don't know why)

I left the one I was looking to find

Oh why?

Oh why?

CHORUS

No I can't breathe easy

I can't dream yet another dream without you lying next to me

There's no air

Out of my mind

Nothing makes sense anymore

I want you back in my life

That's all I'm breathing for

Oh I

Tell me why

Oh won't you tell me why?

I can't dream yet another dream without you lying next to me

There's no air

CHORUS

There's no air

Quote:
You'll Never Walk Alone- Gerry and The Pacemakers

When you walk

Through a storm

Hold your head up high

And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm

There's a golden sky

And the sweet silver song

Of the lark

Walk on through the wind

Walk on through the rain

Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on

Walk on

With hope in your heart

And you'll never walk alone

You'll never walk alone

Walk on

Walk on

With hope in your heart

And you'll never walk alone

You'll never walk alone

(Liverpool! Liverpool! Liverpool! Liverpool![as finished on Kop])

I just love those 2 songs

For me it's " Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

It's been my friends and I theme song for camping going on 5 years now.Every time we go, on our first night there, we play it really loud and sing along to it. People from other campsites have even joined in a few times. Every time I hear it, I stop and think of all the great times I've had with my friends.

Sweet Home Alabama

Big wheels keep on turning

Carry me home to see my kin

Singing songs about the Southland

I miss Alabamy once again

And I think its a sin, yes

Well I heard mister Young sing about her

Well, I heard ole Neil put her down

Well, I hope Neil Young will remember

A Southern man don't need him around anyhow

Sweet home Alabama

Where the skies are so blue

Sweet Home Alabama

Lord, I'm coming home to you

In Birmingham they love the gov' nor

Now we all did what we could do

Now Watergate does not bother me

Does your conscience bother you?

Tell the truth

Sweet home Alabama

Where the skies are so blue

Sweet Home Alabama

Lord, I'm coming home to you

Here I come Alabama

Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers

And they've been known to pick a song or two

Lord they get me off so much

They pick me up when I'm feeling blue

Now how about you?

Sweet home Alabama

Where the skies are so blue

Sweet Home Alabama

Lord, I'm coming home to you

Sweet home Alabama

Oh sweet home baby

Where the skies are so blue

And the guv'nor's true

Sweet Home Alabama

Lordy

Lord, I'm coming home to you

Yea, yea Montgomery's got the answer

Even typing out the lyrics is making me wanna go camping. Gotta get a trip together before fall hits.

Ok, i thought about this, trying not make it depressing, but hah! to no avail, so here it is, Blue and Yellow by The Used when my ex declared she loved me, we were both listening to this, even though i should cry at the song, i still can't help but think its beautiful, go listen to it, you'll know what i mean!

Blue and Yellow

And it's all in how you mix the two

And it starts just where the light exists

It's a feeling that you cannot miss

And it burns a hole

Through everyone that feels it

Well your never gonna find it

if your looking for it

won't come your way

Well you'll never find it

if your looking for it

Should've done something but I've done it enough

by the way your hands were shaking

rather waste some time with you

And you never would have though in the end

how amazing it feels just to live again

It's a feeling that you cannot miss

And it burns a hole through everyone that feels it

Well your never gonna find it

if your looking for it

won't come your way

Well you'll never find it

if your looking for it

Should've said something but I've said it enough

by the way my words were faded

rather waste some time with you

Waste some time with you.....

hmm my song, I hate to admit it but everytime I hear this song it reminds me of the one that I let slip away.. Sometimes wishes just don't come true. Somethimes for sanity reasons there is a reason...

Ani Difranco -Shameless-

i cannot name this

i cannot explain this

and i really don't want to

just call me shameless

i can't even slow this down

let alone stop this

and i keep looking around

but i cannot top this

if i had any sense

i guess i'd fear this

i guess i'd keep it down

so no one would hear this

i guess i'd shut my mouth

and rethink a minute

but i can't shut it now

'cuz there's something in it

we're in a room without a door

and i am sure without a doubt

they're gonna wanna know

how we got in here

and they're gonna wanna know

how we plan to get out

we better have a good explanation

for all the fun that we had

'cuz they are coming for us, baby

they are going to be mad

they are going to be mad at us

this is my skeleton

this is the skin it's in

that is, according to light

and gravity

i'll take off my disguise

the mask you met me in

'cuz i got something

for you to see

just gimme your skeleton

give me the skin it's in

yeah baby, this is you

according to me

i never avert my eyes

i never compromise

so nevermind

the poetry

we're in a room without a door...

i gotta cover my butt 'cuz i covet

another man's wife

i got to divide my emotions

between wrong and right

then i get to see how close i can get to it

without giving in

then i get to rub up against it

till i break the skin

rub up against it

till i break the skin

they're gonna be mad at us

they're gonna be mad at me and you

yeah, they're gonna be mad at us

and all the things we wanna do

they're gonna be mad at us

they're gonna be mad at me and you

they're gonna be mad at us

and all the things we like do

just please don't name this

please don't explain this

just blame it all on me

say i was shameless

say i couldn't slow it down

let alone stop it

and say you just hung around

'cuz you couldn't top it

it was pretty much us in a nut shell.

The Song..

Postby angel of salvation » Fri Sep 03, 2004 10:13 am

The song for me is one called Acoustic #3 by the Goo Goo Dolls. I have to stop and listen to it everytime I hear it being played becuase the words hit me really hard and I can relate to everything that John Rzeznick sings.

Acoustic #3-Goo Goo Dolls

They painted up your secrets

With the lies they told to you

And the least they ever gave you

Was the most you ever knew

And I wonder where your dreams go

When the world gets in your way

Whats the point in all this screaming?

No ones listening anyway

Your voice is small and fading

And your hiding here unknown

And your mother loves your father

Cos she's got nowhere to go

And she wonders where these dreams go

When the world gets in her way

Whats thje point in ever trying

Nothing's changing anyway

They press their lips against you

And you love the lies they say

And I tried so hard to reach you

But your falling anyway

And you know I see right through you

Cos the world got in your way

What's the point in all this screaming?

Your not listening anyway

Ahhhh I jus love it...

I have three songs. Livin on a Prayer- Bon Jovi, Name- Goo Goo Dolls, and... sadly enough, ever since Tabula Rasa I've had to listen to Goodbye to You- Michelle Branch EVERY single time they play it. Which is alot. And each time I cry. Livin on a Prayer is by far my favorite. So the lyrics follow.

Once upon a time

Not so long ago

Tommy used to work on the docks

Union's been on strike

He's down on his luck... it's tough, so tough

Gina works the diner all day

Working for her man, she brings hom her pay

For love - for love

She says: We've got to hold on to what we've got

'Cause it doesn't make a difference

If we make it or not

We've got each other and that's a lot

For love - we'll give it a shot

We're half way there

Livin' on a prayer

Take my hand and we'll make it - I swear

Livin' on a prayer

Tommy got his six string in hock

Now he's holding in what he used

To make it talk - so tough, it's tough

Gina dreams of running away

When she cries in the night

Tommy whispers: Baby it's okay, someday

We've got to hold on to what we've got

'Cause it doesn't make a difference

If we make it or not

We've got each other and that's a lot

For love - we'll give it a shot

We're half way there

Livin' on a prayer

Take my hand and we'll make it - I swear

Livin' on a prayer

We've got to hold on ready or not

You live for the fight when it's all that you've got

We're half way there

Livin' on a prayer

Take my hand and we'll make it - I swear

Livin' on a prayer

Ok. I didn't say I'd put them, but Name has been stuck in my head ALL DAY, so I'll type the lyrics. Maybe it'll help.

And even though the moment passed me by

I still can't turn away

Cause all the dreams you never thought you'd lose

Got tossed along the way

And letters that you never meant to send

Get lost or thrown away

And now we're grown up orphans

That never knew their names

We don't belong to no one

That's a shame

But if you could hide beside me

Maybe for a while

And I won't tell no one your name

And I won't tell em your name

Scars are souvenirs you never lose

The past is never far

Did you lose yourself somewhere out there

Did you get to be a star

And don't it make you sad to know that life

Is more than who we are

You grew up way too fast

And now there's nothing to believe

And reruns all become our history

A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio

And I won't tell no one your name

And I won't tell em your name

I won't tell em your name

I won't tell em your name...

I think about you all the time

But I don't need the same

It's lonely where you are come back down

And I won't tell em your name

Note: my mom HATES driving me places when songs I like come on, since I tend to sing loudly, and occationally off-key.

Three of 'em (at least) for me too. Gotta crank 'em, hit replay repeatedly, and sing along despite my tonally-challengedness.

ok so here's my song:

it's "Life's Been Good" by Joe Walsh. I have no idea why, but this song just hooks me in whenever it's on the radio :p

I have a mansion forget the price

Ain't never been there they tell me it's nice

I live in hotels tear out the walls

I have accountants pay for it all

They say I'm crazy but I have a good time

I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime

Life's been good to me so far

My Maserati does 185

I lost my license now I don't drive

I have a limo ride in the back

I lock the doors in case I'm attacked

I'm making records my fans they can't wait

They write me letters tell me I'm great

So I got me an office gold records on the wall

Just leave a message maybe I'll call

Lucky I'm sane after all I've been through

Everybody says I'm cool (He's cool)

I can't complain but sometimes I still do

Life's been good to me so far

I go to parties sometimes until four

It's hard to leave when you can't find the door

It's tough to handle this fortune and fame

Everybody's so different I haven't changed

They say I'm lazy but it takes all my time

Everybody says Oh yeah (Oh yeah)

I keep on going guess I'll never know why

Life's been good to me so far

And another-- "I Need You Tonight" by INXS. hello, what a SEXY song!

Come over here

All you got is this moment

The twenty-first century’s yesterday

You can care all you want

Everybody does yeah that’s okay

So slide over here

And give me a moment

Your moves are so raw

I’ve got to let you know

I’ve got to let you know

You’re one of my kind

I need you tonight

’cause I’m not sleeping

There’s something about you girl

That makes me sweat

How do you feel

I’m lonely

What do you think

Can’t take it all

Whatcha gonna do

Gonna live my life

that's my two cents :peace

For me, the song is Sarah McLachlan's Adia.

Adia I do believe I failed you

Adia I know I let you down

don't you know I tried so hard

to love you in my way

it's easy let it go...

Adia I'm empty since you left me

trying to find a way to carry on

I search myself and everyone

to see where we went wrong

'Cause there's no one left to finger

there's no one here to blame

there's no one left to talk to, honey

and there ain't no one to buy our innocence

'cause we are born innocent

believe me Adia, we are still innocent

it's easy, we all falter

does it matter?

Adia I thought that we could make it

but I know I can't change the way you feel

I leave you with your misery

a friend who won't betray

I pull you from your tower

I take away your pain

and show you all the beauty you possess

if you'd only let yourself believe that

we are born innocent

believe me Adia, we are still innocent

it's easy, we all falter, does it matter?

believe me Adia, we are still innocent

'cause we are born innocent

Adia we are still innocent

it's easy, we all falter ... but does it matter?

It just gets to me.

The song nobody ....No matter where I am or what I am doing when ever this song plays I have to stop listen and smile. My sister and I used to sit on the trunk of my daddys old chevy eating our waterburger singing it like we were on stage. we had no idea the meaning but it didn't matter to us lol

Nobody

Sylvia

Sittin' in a Restaurant She walked By

I seem to recall that certain look in your eye

I asked "who's that? "you said with a smile

"Oh it's Nobody....Nobody."

Well maybe that explains the last two week

You called me up, dead on your feet

Working late again, I ask who with

You say "Nobody.....Oh Nobody."

Well your Nobody called today

She hung up when I asked her name

Well I wonder does she think she's being clever?

(clever.....ooh ooh)

You say Nobody's after you

The fact is what you say is true

But I can love you like Nobody can ......even better

Late last night we went for a ride

You were miles away I asked "who's on your mind?"

You said , "Nobody..Nobody. Why do you ask?"

Oh, Her again I could have told you that.

We went back home got ready for bed

I said to myself I've got one shot left

Your still mine an I won't stand in line

Behind Nobody....Oh Nobody!

Well your Nobody called today

She hung up when I asked her name

Well I wonder does she think she's being clever?

(clever.....ohh ohh)

You say Nobody's after you

The fact is what you say is true

But I can Love you like Nobody can.....even better.

She walks in beauty, Like the night of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that's best of dark and bright; Meet in her aspect, and her eyes. ~ by Byron ~

C'mere baby

You know you drive me up a wall

The way you make good for all the nasty tricks you pull

Seems like we're makin' up more than we're makin' love

And it always seems you got somn' on your mind

Other than me

Girl you got to change your crazy ways... you hear me

Say you're leavin' on the seven thirty train

And that'chor headin' out to Hollywood

Girl you've been givin' me that line so many times

It kinda gets like feelin' bad looks good... yeah

That kinda lovin' turns a man to a slave

That kinda lovin' sends a man right to his grave

I go crazy crazy baby I go crazy

You turn it on then you're gone

Yeah you drive me crazy crazy crazy for you baby

What can I do... honey

I feel like the color blue

You're packin' up your stuff

And talkin' like it's tough

And tryin' to tell me that it's time to go

Yeah... but I know you ain't wearin' nothin' underneath that overcoat

And it's all a show... yeah

That kinda lovin' makes me wanna pull down the shade... yeah

That kinda love... yeah

Now I'm never never never never gonna be the same

I go crazy crazy baby I go crazy

You turn it on then you're gone

Yeah you drive me crazy crazy crazy for you baby

What can I do... honey

I feel like the color blue

I'm losing my mind

Girl 'cause I'm goin' craaaaa........

I need your love... honey yeah

Crazy crazy crazy for you baby

I'm losin' my mind

AC/DC "You Shook Me All Night Long" - This song reminds me of my early twenties. My friends and I were convoying to a party when the song came on the radio. All the cars pulled to the side of the road "like a little ballet" and we all jumped out and danced. Good times, yeah, good times.

She was a fast machine

She kept her motor clean

She was the best damn woman I had ever seen

She had the sightless eyes

Telling me no lies

Knockin' me out with those American thighs

Taking more than her share

Had me fighting for air

She told me to come but I was already there

'Cause the walls start shaking

The earth was quaking

My mind was aching

And we were making it

and you

Shook me all night long

Yeah you shook me all night long

Working double time On the seduction line

She was one of a kind,

she's just mine all mine

She wanted no applause

Just another course

Made a meal out of me and came back for more

Had to cool me down To take another round

Now I'm back in the ring to take another swing

'Cause the walls were shaking

The earth was quaking

My mind was aching

And we were making it and you

Shook me all night long

Yeah you shook me all night long

And knocked me out and then you Shook me all night long You had me shakin' and you Shook me all night long

Yeah you shook me

Well you took me

You reall took me and you Shook me all night long

Ooooh you Shook me all night long

Yeah, yeah, you Shook me all night long

Your really took me and you

Yeah you shook me,

yeah you shook me All night long

So I'm new here and I've been checking out all of the threads and I think this one is really cool. I'm a pretty intense music lover so it makes sense....anyway, I know what "the song" is for me. I've always loved this song and I love to sing it really loud! It's pretty dorky but hey, check out my name. I tried to find the lyrics earlier and when I clicked on a link it fried my computer, so while I was waiting for my virus software to do it's thing I flipped on VH1 Classic and saw the freakin' video. It was like fate or something so I vowed that I had to post this song on here because the Universe was telling me to. So, yeah, I'm a dork and this has been firmly established.

No Myth by Micheal Penn (1989)

"So, she says it's time she goes
but wanted to be sure I know
she hopes we can be friends
I think, yeah, I guess we can say I
but didn't think to ask her why
she blocked her eyes and drew the curtains
with knots I've got yet to untie

what if I were Romeo in black jeans
what if I was Heathcliff, it's no myth
maybe she's just looking for
someone to dance with

See, it was just too soon to tell
and looking for some parallel
can be an endless game
We said goodbye before hello
my secrets she will never know
and if I dig a hole to China
I'll catch the first junk to Soho

what if I were Romeo in black jeans
what if I was Heathcliff, it's no myth
maybe she's just looking for
someone to dance with

Sometime from now you'll bow to pressure
some things in life you cannot measure by degrees
I'm between the poles and the equator
don't send no private investigator to find me please
'less he speaks Chinese
and can dance like Astaire overseas

what if I were Romeo in black jeans
what if I was Heathcliff, it's no myth
maybe she's just looking for
someone to dance with."
As one, they turn to the soda machine. It flies back into the door like a cannonball. Willow looks at it, at Tara. She doesn't let go of her hand.

Hi everyone!!

Ok so i've never seen this thread before, but you know what? I like it. I get the goosebumps bad whenever I hear any of these songs... Now I know we are only supposed to put one song but I have more than one song that I HAVE to listen to whenever I hear it...

In no particular order (I won't put the lyrics 'cause I have a few):

* You're the Voice by John Farnham - A song just about every Aussie knows... very powerful... well for me anyway...

* Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi - Great song... goosebumps galore... and I think has already been mentioned...

* My Girl by the Temptations - I absolutely love this movie...

* Love is only a Feeling by The Darkness - (hence the sig ) I love the guitars in this one...

Hey dorksrcool that is cool! I like you're name... it's original unlike mine... And so what if you're a dork... I probably am too! No actually I KNOW I am... but that's ok... dorks are cool!! Right?

Definitely

No One Like You - Scorpions

No One Like You is the #1 song of the list of the songs I associate with Willow & Tara.

Here are the lyrics (taken from http://www.sing365.com )

Girl, it's been a long time that we've been apart
Much too long for a man who needs love
I miss you since I've been away
Babe, it wasn't easy to leave you alone
It's getting harder each time that I go
If I had the choice, I would stay

There's no one like you
I can't wait for the nights with you
I imagine the things we'll do
I just wanna be loved by you
No one like you
I can't wait for the nights with you
I imagine the things we'll do
I just wanna be loved by you

Girl, there are really no words strong enough
To describe all my longing for love
I don't want my feelings restrained
Ooh, babe, I just need you like never before
Just imagine you'd come through this door
You'd take all my sorrow away

Chorus Repeat x2
when you're with me, baby the skies will be blue, for all my life..

for me i think it has to be Anastacia - You'll Never Walk Alone although michelle branch- goodbye to you always gets me when i listen to it

The world is changing
and time is spinning fast
it's so amazing how you came into my life
I know it seems all hope is gone
I know you feel you can't be strong
and once again the story ends with you and I

And anytime you feel like you just can't go on
just hold on to my love
and you'll never be alone

Hold on
we can make it through the fire
and my love
I'm forever by your side
and you know
if you should ever call my name
I'll be right there
you'll never be alone

Hopeless to describe
the way I feel for you
no matter how I try
words would never do
I looked into your eyes to find
as long as love is alive
there ain't nothing we can't make it through

Anytime, or only for a while
don't worry
make a wish
I'll be there to see you smile
oooh

Hold on
we can make it throught the fire
and my love
I'm forever by your side
and you know
if you should ever call my name
I'll be right there
you'll never be alone

Through the fire, by your side
I will be there for you so I'm, don't you worry
(and you know, I'll be there)
you'll never be a... alone
heya heyeaaaah

Hold on
we can make it through the fire
and my love
I'm forever by your side
and you know
if you should ever call my name
I'll be right there
oh baby, hold on

Hold on
(we can make it through the fire)
we can make it baby
and my love
said I'm forever by your side, yeah
(and you know)
if you should ever call my name
said I'll be, I'll be right there
oh, oh, ooooh

Hold on
yeah yeah
(we can make it through the fire)
yeah yeah
oh no
(my love)
I know, and you know (I'm forever by your side)
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
(and you know)
(if you should ever call my name)
(I'll be right there)

there have been a couple of songs recently that have really had an impact on me. actually loads lol but the ones that do it the most are Linkin Park-Numb and one with no words at all...that theme to American Beauty. :blush

[hr]
Linkin Park-Numb
I'm tired of being what you want me to be
Feeling so faithless,
Lost under the surface.
Don't know what you're expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in you're shoes

Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow
Every step that I take, is another mistake to you
Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow

I've become so numb, I can't feel you there
Become so tired, so much more aware
I'm becoming this, all I want to do
Is be more like me, and be less like you

Can't you see that you're smothering me?
Holding to tightly,
Afraid to loose control.
Cuz everything that you thought I would be
Has fallen apart,
Right infront of you

Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow
And every second I waste is more than I can take

I've become so numb, I can't feel you there
Become so tired, so much more aware
I'm becoming this, all I want to do
Is be more like me, and be less like you

And I know, I may end up failing too
But I know, you were just like me
With someone disappointed in you...

I've become so numb, I can't feel you there
Become so tired, so much more aware
I'm becoming this, all I want to do
Is be more like me, and be less like...

I've become so numb, I can't feel you there
I'm tired of being what you want me to be...
I've become so numb, I can't feel you there
I'm tired of being what you want me to be...

Sheryl Crow's "My Favorite Mistake".
Yeah, I know, destructive much? But I can't help it.

This one and "Missing" (which is the last track in the Brazilian version of Sheryl's album C'mon C'mon) are the ones that make me wanna jump right out of my 12th floor window...

My Favorite Mistake:

I woke up and called this morning
The tone of your voice was a warning
That you don't care for me anymore

I made up the bed we sleep in
I looked at the clock when you creep in
It's 6 a.m. and I'm alone

[Chorus]
Did you know when you go
It's the perfect ending
To the bad day I was just beginning
When you go all I know is
You're my favorite mistake

Your friends are sorry for me
They watch you pretend to adore me
But I'm no fool to this game

Now here comes your secret lover
She'd be unlike any other
Until your guilt goes up in flames

[Chorus]

You're my favorite mistake

Well maybe nothin' lasts forever
Even when you stay together
I don't need forever after
It's your laughter won't let me go
So I'm holding on this way

Did you know, could you tell
You were the only one
That I ever loved
Now everything's so wrong

Did you see me walking by?
Did it ever make you cry?

You're my favorite mistake
You're my favorite mistake
You're my favorite mistake
