Late to this, but to whoever mentioned Better Than Ezra many pages ago? EEK! That's my favorite band...I've seen them in concert close to 40 times.:)

My playlist:

Evanescence (local band from Little Rock that was recently signed to a major label...they're kinda gothy and ethereal and the singer has an absolutely BEAUTIFUL voice. She kinda sounds like Sarah McLachlan. We want to play with them. "We" being...)

Dean Heathen (<-- my band. I play bass. Kinda heavy, NIN-sounding, but I adore the music. People seem to like us. Yay!)

Tori Amos

Better Than Ezra - Favorite!Band!Ever!

Depeche Mode

Stone Sour - "Bother" (I almost had a heart attack when I found out who the singer was...Since I DESPISE his other band)

Greenwheel - "Breathe"

Defy (cool band from Memphis)

Avril Lavigne - I've heard she is a TOTAL bitca in person, but I still like her songs. Especially "Unwanted"

Vanessa Carlton - See sig:)

Michelle Branch - loving her new one with Santana. I met her last year. She's SUCH a sweetheart...and was totally excited about being on Buffy.

Linkin Park - especially loving the remix of "Crawling" with Aaron Lewis from Staind.

There are many others, but those are the biggies as of late. I listen to all kinds of music...Not just what I play at my station. At this very moment, I'm listening to Defy.

I am going to marry Shakira someday, shadow! This I know! Everytime I see her dance my tongue falls out and I trip over it. I also prefer her spanish music, but I love her english too.

My playlist is a little weird right now, I've prefered some harder stuff to go along with some personal problems:

ACDC

Aerosmith

Led Zepplin

Jeff Buckley

Live

when I'm not depressed, I listen to:

Shakira - anything Spanish, Laundry Service

Michelle Branch - esp. Goodbye to You

Jewel - This Way - love the track Love me, Just Leave Me Alone (think that's the name), and Break Me

Alanis - Jagged Little Pill

Leahy - an awesome canadian celtic step group

Natalie McMaster - anything!

The Corrs - anything!

Loreena McKennitt - anything! especially Live in Toronto & Paris, and The Visit (and she lives less than an hour away from me!!!)

Anything Beethoven, Mahler, or Chopin

Moulin Rouge soundtrack

Wilson Pickett - Land of a Thousand Dances (or more preferrably Fern Gully soundtrack version)

No Doubt - Underneath it All

Tori Amos - Talula, In the Springtime of his Voodoo, Cornflake Girl, Famous Blue Raincoat, Silent all these years, iiee, Winter, Space Dog, Crucify, Me and a Gun, Somewhere over the Rainbow, Raspberry Swirl

Santana - Smooth

Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing

Sheryl Crow - Soakin' Up In The Sun, Run Baby,

Run, Steve McQueen

Classical Gas (the song/piece)

Diana Krall

Soundtrack to Autumn in New York

Jennifer Warren singing Leonard Cohen

The Chieftains album Tears of Stone with female artists - awesome!

Riverdance Soundtrack

There's so much more, but that's the gist. :)

Postby UTPromdog » Sun Sep 29, 2002 8:00 pm

This topic is right up my alley. I love music. I am on the boat with everyone else who loves Avril. Her songs are so good, and she looks so good playing guitar.

My top choices right now would have to be:

1. Travis--2nd and 3rd album

2. Phantom Planet

3. Superdrag--all albums

4. Weezer--all albums (I have seen them 4 times in concert. They kick ace!)

5. Squirrel Nut Zipper--I highly recommend this group

6. Avril (even though I already mentioned it)

7. Coldplay

8. Guided By Voices

9. Billie Holiday

10. Norah Jones (What a voice!!!!)

Well that's my choices. I love talking about music, so if any of you guys have anything to talk about let me know.

Music

Postby reyjawk » Sun Sep 29, 2002 8:58 pm

I saw this thread and had to post. I love music. My taste in music is all over the map. To me if it is good I like it. Anything from classical to heavy metal. Currently, I have been into classic country and blue grass. Plus some non-english music. There is a band called Vas from India they are really good. I also recently ordered this album Called Euripides Trojan Women by a greek Musician. It is a really beautiful concept album. It is the play put to music. It is really pretty.

I am a musical freak! I have almost a gb of songs downloaded. Also, I was the only one I knew growing up who had JC Superstar and ACDC in the same cd case. Here is a sampling of whats in my cd case and what I listen to on a regular basis:

JC Superstar (This is when I realized how sexy Jesus was.)

RENT - "Boys, girls I cant help it baby"

Once More With Feeling (This is coming close to passing JC as my favorite musical. This episode blew me away!)

Evita

Phantom of the Opera

Euripides - Trojan Women

Music for Elevators

Sheryl Crow

Jeff Buckley

Madonna

No Doubt

Over the Rhine (this band is awesome)

Sarah McLachlan (I have every album by her. That voice!)

BTVS Soundtrack

Led Zeppilin

Melissa Etheridge (Again I have all of her albums. The best I think is Breakdown)

Heart

Fleetwood Mac (Another obsession. I have almost every FM record)

Stevie Nicks (Well Duh!)

Strauss

Gershwin

Billie Holiday

Queen

Idina Menzel (Maureen in Rent)

Lauryn Hill

Creed

Polychrome (this band rocks!)

Bette Midler

Cherry Poppin Daddys(Swingin)

Shakira

Tracy Chapman

Vas

ACDC

Iron Maiden

Guns 'N' Roses

Poison (what can I say I was a kid in the 80's)

Iced Earth (Horror Show is one of the coolest albums!)

Garbage (All of their albums. The best I think is Beautiful Garbage)

Pink

Jewel

KD Lang

Grey Eye Glances (Again not a well known band but they are really good.)

Dolly Parton

Alison Krauss

Dixie Chicks

Patty Loveless

Pam Tillis

Kenny Rogers

There is many more but those are the top right now. Our main spending splurges are books and cds.

Sorry this is so long...

On the playlist today has been Four Star Mary, Tori Amos (in anticipation of the new album this month, WHEE! :bounce ), Michelle Branch and Sheryl Crow. (Am I the only person who thinks a Michelle Branch/Sheryl Crow duet would kick ASS?)

Re: Music

Postby Killin Joke » Mon Sep 30, 2002 1:19 pm

"The beautiful people ! The beautiful people !" tedede... (hear also: the beginning of The Blair Witch Project 2) Yeah, Marilyn's got some wicked music. I'm not saying I idolize the guy (my obsessions are stricly restricted to the girls -> Amber, Aly, etc ;) ) but he's more intelligent than most people give him credit for: reading Nietzsche and stuff... I think he's well aware of the act he puts out on stage. Got The Prodigy's CD The fat of the land too: made a Callisto music video on Firestarter... Maybe I should make a DMW vid on it too, but I'd rather make a melancholic W/T one. I taped Korn's Follow the leader on cassette once. Music to get your adrenaline pumping :)

Furthermore: Michelle Branch (thanks again, Toni, for spreading the wealth ;) and Sheryl Crow on tour together: quite a treat.

About Lucy Kaplansky: is she a singer-songwriter too ? Bit rocky ? I saw a CD of her in our local library. If a kitten would suggest she's any good, well, then I'd go rent it right away of course ;)

Added by (sorry, guys, I'm leafing through the pages as to see which kitties ' music match my own CDs and cassettes, since it's impossible to type down my entire collection: I really should make an inventory):

- Bjork: Friend of mine was singing her songs just yesterday, when we were waiting in line in an amusement park.

- Metallica: Got about everything of 'm on tape: saw them once in Werchter (Belgian summer festival): They were the closing act on saturday night, and cool as hell. Friendly to their fans, threw a bunch of plectrums in the audience afterwards, lingered a bit.

- Nirvana: discovered 'm after Kurt Cobain's death. David Grohl isn't too shabby either in The Foo Fighters and as drummer in Queens of the Stone Age now.

- The Cranberries: except for the new one, I've got 4 CDs of 'm: Saw them in concert too: though, only half of it, since my friend who drove got lost (Men ! LOL j/j) Special voice Dolores has got. Played No need to argue so many times, eventually my sister liked 'm too.

- Vanessa Carlton: friend copied her CD, and beware: again something my techno-struck sister likes :)

- AC/DC: Rock on !

- Aerosmith: great balance between ballads and rougher songs

- Live: saw them 3 times already on Werchter again: they had to play two times, since Pearl Jam wasn't coming that year.

- Jewel: bought her new CD - "My hands" my favourite song, though. Okay, so I'm an atheist: part of the lyrics and the melody's still nice.

- Alanis: nuff said: grrrl power !

- The Corrs: ah, suddenly, I long back for Ireland (wonderful holiday)

- Loreena McKennit: like Enya, folk, new age: amazing genres

- No doubt: They're a bit changing their style, but that's ok.

- U2: just got the best of CD: classic

- Garbage: also saw them in concert - kick ass singer - Androgynous: heh

- Melissa Etheridge: could it be a sign ? ;) Gotta luv rocker chicks

- Queen: Freddy had an incredible voice: opera-like: could go from high to low in a heartbeat. Bryan May and the rest are also good musicians. Love the bombastic touch: loud and silent parts

- Iron Maiden: Godfathers of metal

- Iced Earth: Saw them in concert: The Horror Show: 3 times 50 minutes of bliss

- KD Lang: bought two of her CDs: not really my style, but hey, I had to check it out :)

- Alison Krauss: checked her out, coz I just loved It doesn't matter on the Buffy soundtrack.

Postby Pipsqueak » Mon Sep 30, 2002 2:01 pm

Well, I don't really keep playlists ... I generally just pick a bunch of songs at random each time, so that wouldn't be a good example of my music tastes. However, here are the CDs that are currently in my car:

Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory

Charlotte Church - Enchantment

Barenaked Ladies - Stunt

Martina McBride - Greatest Hits

3 Doors Down - Better Life

Ginny Owens - Without Condition

Michelle Branch - The Spirit Room

Tim McGraw - A Place In The Sun

Puddle Of Mudd - Come Clean

The Carpenters - Love Songs

Cranberries - Everybody Else Is Doing It...

Matchbox 20 - Mad Season

Fuel - Something Like Human

Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstasy

Rascal Flatts - Rascal Flatts

Vertical Horizon - Everything You Want

You know how most people, when asked what type of music they like, will generally respond with "Oh, I like anything except country" or "anything except rap" etc? Well, I really will listen to ANYTHING. :)

Re: Music

Postby Killin Joke » Mon Sep 30, 2002 5:21 pm

Luvly thread: so many kitties with good taste (although taste's always relative, except maybe for Willow and Tara ;) ) Next:

- Matchbox 20: super friend of mine copied Mad Season for me, because she loved the song "Bend" so much, while she was travelling in New Zealand.

- Radiohead: had The Bends on tape, but of course lending out stuff is always a risk and a now ex-boyfriend of a good friend of mine still has it (probably lost). I stil have OK computer on CD, though, and went to see them in concert: very emotional stuff

- Bush: Letting the cables sleep: touching song

- Hole: attitude !

- REM: It's the end of the world as we know it ! Last song: sunday night, rain falling down out of the sky, like you wouldn't believe it: think jungle in Vietnam situations Thunder, lightning, me singing along in my black raincoat and -pants: just awesome: Michael's sure something.

- Therion: Deggial, etc: symphonies, voices,...

- Theatre of tragedy: again: excellent combo

- Crematory: fave song: Tears of time

- Ash: taped their CD with Girl from Mars

- Suzanne Vega: fave song: "The soldier came knocking upon the queen's door. He said: I am not fighting for you anymore..." and so on

- Adiemus: sanctuary indeed: beautiful !

- Nathalie Merchant: discovered her - strange but true - on a party. Evening was running to its end, I was till there, nightowl as I am, and they started playing more rare stuff. I asked about this song: turned out to be Nathalie Merchant, and I remembered, bought two CDs of her afterwards (ok, I admit it: after they played her "Carnival" in the Xena episode Anthony and Cleopatra). My friend always wondered how the hell I managed to remember that. He must have thought I was already pretty loaded or something. What is it with men, huh ;)

- Shawn Colvin: discovered her on Lillith Fair CD, and bought a CD with covers of her, the others will follow some day

- Buffy soundtrack: gorguous ! Man, there's so much good stuff on that one: I really should start looking out for full albums of those artists.

- The Cardigans: mellow music

- Texas: Also saw them in Werchter... "She believes in everything... And she believes in nothing, and everything..." (Halo)

- Axelle Red: I know I've got some stuff of her on cassette: long time ago I listened to her, but: foxy lady, superb voice, red hair and all ;)

- Amorphis: Oh, Tales of a thousand lakes is marvelous !

- Tristania: Beyond the veil, Widow weeds (shouldn't that be Willow weeds )

- Patty Griffin: Flamin' red CD's my fave: Carry, Christina, etc :)

- Dido: No angel ;)

- Jon Bon Jovi: rock/pop: early classic are still the best, but I've got nothing against the new ones either

Wow... I had no idea... /suddenly very self-aware in the shy way/ I mean, I just love music, and yeah, I guess I'm kinda nerdy that way: spending so much money on CDs while a lot of people I've come to know just download it from the net recently. Truly impressed. I usually suck at getting things from the internet: was amazed I managed to download the eps from season sux at all. W/T huh: just gave you that extra motivation. Anyway, my problem (in you can call it like that) is that I like too many things: if I would just enjoy metal for instance (like some of my male friends) easier, it would be a bit easier to follow (of course, you still have heaps of divisions in it, but I'm straying again). So the fairly recent asset of a CD-writer helped a lot. But they're already inventing technology to stop it: can't really blame them... Uch, tricky issue. Other tapes that spring to mind: I remember "borrowing" Paul Simon's Graceland from my parents, when I was like 1" or something. They never saw that tape back. LOL Catchy rhythms... "And if you'll be my bodyguard, then I will be your long lost friend..." tudututu ;) And Greenday was cool too back in the days with Basket case: "I went to a whore... 'He' said my life's a bore." Brilliant.

looks like you have quite an impressive collection - lots of the same stuff as me. I used to download a lot, but only stuff I won't buy...which actually isn't much. I buy waaaaay to many CDs, and I agree with you - if I only liked one type of music, I wouldn't have so many CDs. It's the first thing people notice if they see my room - the piles of CDs stacked around the walls!

and that Green Day CD "dookie" was one of my first CDs! I still love it, but am more partial to "Nimrod"

Paul Simon is great too - simon & garfunkle and the graceland era stuff. love it.

Susanne Vega - The Queen and the soldier? definitely a favourite.

also - is that Sheryl Crow live cd really good? I picked it up on sale for NZ$4 a while back, but haven't really listened to it. I might take it to work tomorrow....

my recommendation/obsession for the day....Glen Phillips... I've had his song's "easier", "back on my feet" & "train wreck" (one of the saddest songs EVER - unless he's doing his 'country version') on repeat all afternoon..you can find some of his live stuff at www.glenp3.com/featuredshow.html
