So close to being eliminated, kudos to Andy Roddick winning the U.S. Open! What an incredible serve ARod has! Sadly, Ferrero couldn't do much, except watch them go by! IMO, the semi-final matches were far more entertaining than the finals!

Yeah. I think Roddick is awesome to watch. I mean a freakin' over 130 mph serve. Incredible. But yeah, his match before was a better match to watch. Coming back from two sets down is good stuff.

OOh it's the wta championship and Mauresmo is in the semis. I don't think she'll win it but I look forward to a five setter tomorrow. I really hope they go to 5 sets, that is so fun. First time this tournament went to five sets was when Monica Seles beat Gabriela Sabatini in five sets in the 1990 final. Hee, I know that cause I love Gabby

Well Xita, you got your wish (and so did I, heheh) because Mauresmo won in 3 sets. It was a really exciting match that luckily they showed on Belgian t.v. yesterday evening/night. If I had to pick a winner for the upcoming Clijsters-Mauresmo match I would go with Mauresmo because she's in really strong form and seems very determined. Fingers crossed

e.t.a.: not that I have anything against Clijsters of course; au contraire, but...you know....

Yes, I saw the match! It was really exciting, I was nervous all the way till the end. I don't get a chance to see Mauresmo much so this is the biggest win I've seen her had. She usually folds by the time I catch her in the semis. I am cheering for her tonight but she's going to need double the mental toughness to get 2 sets from Clijsters. I hope it's a good match!



*edited to add, Clijsters won. Oh well, Clijsters was just flawless. I like her anyway, so it's cool!

This thread needs to be bumped because, well, the Australian Open starts tomorrow! I've been thinking about the eventual outcome -in the ladies's section- but it's difficult. There may be a dark horse (Hantuchova, Daniilidou springs to mind), but my hunch is Henin - Williams. Unfortunately Clijsters is not in tip-top shape because of an ankle injury and I don't think she'll be able to withstand the physical demands of the game. Mauresmo is a force to be reckoned with of course and deep down I am rooting for her but realistically speaking..... nah, don't think so. Still, there are enough interesting players out there this year so here's hoping for a thrilling event!

Well she made it to the final in Sidney very recently and lost against Henin, but not without chance or anything. If all goes well she will encounter Henin again in the semi finals. Here's hoping for a rematch and a place in the finale for Mauresmo.

I think henin and mauresmo are set to meet in the semis but that would be my pick for a final. Hopefully mauresmo can overcome her difficulties and beat henin! I am not sure at all about Venus, she's been gone for so long, hard to say what she could do. She could win it or lose in the first round, really hard to tell.

ahh, venus lost. I guess it's not good to be out of the loop for so long. Too bad Mauresmo isn't in her half cause she would have an in to the final!

Venus is currently ranked 11 in the world and got seeded above Mauresmo who is the current world's number 4. Not really fair to Mauresmo. Of course Venus is a great player, but she has been out of it for 6 months. Too bad she lost though, she has had a very tough year and I'd wished her a better come back. Anyway, in the end if Mauresmo wants to win she is going to have to beat Henin and everyone else, whether it is in the semi-finals or the final. Besides, no garantuees the other half of the draw would have been an easier road to the finale. Venus lost after all and there is still Kim Clijsters. Nothing decided yet, it's an interesting 'battle'.

To be fair, Venus has been "out of the loop" trying to get healthy after her abdominal injury that plagued her at Wimbledon. Clearly she wasn't ready to get back into the thick of things just yet but don't count her or Serena out. They've been known to be the comeback kids, regardless of how many matches they play. Mauresmo, Davenport and others have proven that, although they may play tens of matches before the Williams sisters, that doesn't guarantee they'll win. Many have fallen time and time again due to overworking themselves. The sisters deserve a bit more credit than this, IMHO.

I don't think I suggested Venus was out of the loop for any other reason. I certainly wasn't suggesting she was washed out. I am not sure where you are getting that from. I am also not sure where you think I wasn't giving them credit. A quick read of this thread would find I am a fan of the sisters. I do favor Serena. I actually think Venus might find it a bit harder to get back to #1. She hasn't been the same player since Serena started winning everything. I fully expect Serena to come back and start kicking ass right away or soon after because I think she's a better player.

I also said she was out of it for six months and though she herself did not want to blame her loss on that, it surely has to be a factor. After not having played a tournament in 6 months or so and then have your first tournament be a grand slam is not making things any easier. It's only natural that it takes a (little) while to get back into it. This loss certainly does not mean she won't make it back to the absolute top and it is not a slight on her abilities. A lot of the (past) top players have had their ups and downs and battles with injuries and overcome them to find their way back on top, I'm sure Venus and Serena will manage it too.

I watched the news and Mauresmo was crying. Felt so bad for her.



And I was hoping for new faces in the final. But it's Justine and Kim again. I'm not a fan of any of them so hope it's a good match.

I'm not trying to be argumentative but the particular post you mention (regardless of your past cheerleading for the Williams Sisters) seemed to me to suggest otherwise. And I don't think I was addressing you specifically. Just noticed a few things and added my 2 cents for what their worth, which ain't much. Well , people tend to think you are addressing them when you quote them And regardless of what my post seemed to suggest, it didn't actually say anything else. I can see why Williams bashing around the net would make anyone on edge. But I know for a fact that we have several Williams supporters on this thread, myself included.

Actually, I think Venus would have won Wimbledon if she did not aggravate her abdominal strain. Serena even says so herself. Venus was playing way better than Serena up until then.



I love both the Williams sisters and I would love it if they would switch of winning the slams. I wouldn't count them out. Once they get healthy, Look out!

I don´t think anyone here is counting them out. I hope they come back soon, and Mauresmo too. Damn, I would have dearly loved to see her play a rematch against Henin in the semis here. I like both Henin and Clijsters, but I would not mind another pairing in the finale every once in a while.

I am a Jennifer Capriatti fan.I also follow Martina N.She is still going strong on the Doubles circuit.as a kid I used to hate it when she played Chrissy cuase I did not want either one to loose.My mom used to laugh I would "yeah Martina great shot put it to her."Then within a few moments I would be shouting.Allright Chrissy,way to hold serve."dad was never happy I knew more about tennis than football.Which I also love,but If I had to choose between tickets and airfare to the Superbowl and tickets and Airfare to Wimbeldon.Hello,old country.



I admire Jennifer,I loved her when she started,but then after she fell apart and managed to pull her life and career together again,I respect that and if she never wins another match I will root for her. She was an inspiration to me while I was in rehab.
