Of course, mine is in honor of W/T's second spell together. Incidentally, Rose is part of my middle name translated into English.

Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.

Tara: Willow, I got so lost.

Willow: I found you. I will always find you.

I'm just scrolling through to see about names and this jumped out at me. I "read" that book! It was creeeeeeepy! And I mean "read" because it was actually a book-on-tape read by Mitch Pileggi. I think I'm going to be stuck hearing his voice everytime I see "Xita". :grin

He did a good job of it though. Hearing him do Mulder and Scully dialogue was a kick.

As for mine, it's a nickname. Easy as that!

Ever since reading about the anagram of "Salvador Dali" that some surrealist writer whose name I forget used as a pen name ("Avida Dollars"), I've been using either that name or an anagram of my own full name- namely, Penrose Orleans. -Nora

I've had many nicknames:

Kitkat - while playing softball in high school (I hated it after a while)

katydid - my softball coach (katydid this, katydid that...)

I have some others (AOL accounts)

BUT as for tkheaven, the 'tk' was a nickname given to myself actually, I used write my name all funky and in different order, but not many people new about. A couple of years ago my gf's brother started calling me that. It stands for my name shortened and reversed (katy-kt-tk). 'heaven' one of my favorite songs by bedrock (it's in the movie Groove). so there ya go.

Tk's new and improved "GrrArgg"...

My name comes from an Ani song that really touched me. "Imperfectly" is a song about how beauty is beauty and love is love, neither are perfect, but they're no less for it. So, hence Imperfectly Me. I'm nowhere near perfect, but that doesn't mean I'm any worse a person for it.

"I'm ok, if you get me at a good angle-and you're ok, in the right sort of light-and we dont look like pages from a magazine

but that's alright- that's alright

I crashed your pickup truck

and then I had to drive it back home-

I was so scared-

of what you would do-

of what you would say

but you just started laughing

and I just started laughing along

Saying it looks a little rough

but it runs ok

yeah it looks a little rough

but it runs good anyway

we get a little further from perfection

each year on the road

I guess that's what they call character

I guess that's just the way it goes

better to be dusty than polished

like some store window mannequin

why don't you tocuh me where I'm rusty

let me stain your hands

when you're pretty as a picture

they pound down your door

but I've been offered love

in two dimensions before

and I know that it's not all

it's made out to be

let's show them how it's done

let's do it all imperfectly"

Postby SlayerSydney » Tue Jan 28, 2003 10:54 am

I am glad this thread was resurrected. I enjoyed catching up on What's in a name.

I think mine is sort of dumb. In elementary/middle school I used to love to write stories. My teacher always encouraged me and she actually thought I would end up writing in some capacity as a career. (She was way off by the way.) Anyway, the stories I always wrote at home, the ones I never shared with anyone, had the same lead character. Sydney was my heroine in every story I wrote. I don't quite recall how I chose Sydney. I think I related it somehow to Olivia Newton-John(my fav singer at the time:heart ) being from Australia and thus some connection was made in my head. I use Sydney as a nick everywhere. It's become my alter ego.:evil

The Slayer part is easy. I became obsessed with BtVS after seeing New Moon Rising. I used to post, using this name, at The Bronze on the UPN site before they nixed the board. So, it stuck when I discovered this little piece of W/T heaven.:willow :love :tara :grin

As far as line sig's, mine changes from time to time. I usually become obsessed with a song and use the lyrics until the phase passes. Lately, I have stuck with Olivia, as I am reliving my younger days. But I also think the magic line suits W/T just fine.:grin

Postby samiamiguess » Tue Jan 28, 2003 11:16 am

Ok, a few people already know the story to my nickname so here it is officially:

As is common during those fun-packed uni days I went to a fancy dressed costume party as SAMIAM, a character from Green Eggs and Ham with my girlfriend Kate in a similar Cat in the Hat costume. After several margharita's I suggested some alone time in the open attic for some delicious smoochies which may have gotten a little er, out of hand due to the amount of alcohol consumed. Well, the attic was a little too open with a second entrance open to unsuspecting intruders who thankfully knew us both well enough not to be scarred for life.

As a result I've had to endure a SAMIAM nickname and a never ending stream of pussy jokes. And that was 8 years ago. Some people really shouldn't have good memories.

*Sigh* Once upon a time, long, long ago, there was a wonderful television show featuring a geeky, shy girl named Willow who was of much help to her superhero best friend, Buffy. I identified very much with this young lady, and as fate would have it, we were quite close in age. When Willow went to university in this show's fourth season, she met an incredible young woman named Tara Maclay, with whom I identified even more... I was absolutely thrilled that they became lovers, as I knew that I would one day enter into a relationship with another woman. Her presence forever changed me, helped me become the person I knew I deserved to be. Alas, Tara and Willow were apparently too wonderful and amazing for the show (whose quality had plummeted severely) to handle... It wasn't strong enough to support them and so the show's creators attempted to destroy the characters with a ridiculously horrid plot line. Of course, Willow and Tara would have none of it, and neither would their fans. So they entered into the realm of fanfiction, where they currently save the universe on a daily basis, side by side, with many, many witchy children. Here ends the story behind my handle... Cause it wasn't clear enough in the first place ;)

i'm not really sure where my name came from.... i call my girlfriend p, or precious, especially when we are arguing.. it is usually something like "but p..." and she just melts.. :love

so when i came to the Kitten i decided to be p's girl.. of course the apostrophe was out of the question and when i typed psgirl it just sounded odd... too similar to p.s. girl.. i don't know. but anyway i suppose the thought occured to me "why don't you flip it" and hence girlofp was born... :grin

i don't really remember though.. :hmm

El Gato? Well, I'm WAY to old to be called a "Kitten" anymore...and since I'm a dad a couple of times over I guess I have my own kittens now. So..I had to pick a feline name for the Kitten Board!

El is the masculine, Gato = Cat....I play bass in a rockabilly band...where we ALL call each other some kind of a cat name (Stray Cats influence perhaps?)...& I've been called El Gato more than once - so why not use it online?

Strange, I somehow missed posting on this the first time 'round.

About 10 years ago (that long? Aigh!) I was the biggest Star Trek fan; granted, both TNG and DS9 were on the air, and it was hard to not be a fan.

There was this Maquis terrorist chick in one TNG episode that I kinda dug; then she shows up again in DS9 (one of the very few guest characters to do so), and I thought her even cooler.

But it was a few years later that I was stuck coming up with a handle for all my anonymous Net stuff (which I did even more of back then), and thought of her. As you might guess, her name was Kalita. (Incidentally, my Yahoo username is 'maquis_kalita' - somehow plain 'kalita' was taken.)

So, there you are!

Re: Screen Names

Postby Patches » Tue Jan 28, 2003 10:53 pm

Well, after graduating from university, I ended up working in the kitchen at the school's grad student bar. That summer I developed tendonitis in my elbow and knee from playing baseball, so I had to wear neoprene bandages for a time. I also used to flip and catch chef's knives, and one day I missed, so I had a wee bandage up from that (it wasn't my fault I missed, my boss came in and distracted me by screaming out "WHAT ARE YOU DOING" and I misjudged my catch). I ended up with the nic-name Patches after hot fryer grease splashed in my eye [scarry, but not serious] and I come back from the hospital (on campus, around the corner) with a patch on. My cohorts thought it was funny (well, not the hot grease part) to see me in bandages seemingly from head to toe and started calling me Patches. Since I could think of nothing cleaver (that I could remember after I registered) - Patches it became.

My sig if from an obscure old song by Don Maclane. I've always believed that all roads lead to where we stand.

Crossroads (Don McLean)

I've got nothing on my mind

Nothing to remember

Nothing to forget

I've got nothing to regret

But I'm all tied up on the inside

No-one knows quite what I've got

And I know that on the outside

What I used to be - I'm not

Anymore

You know I've heard about people like me

But I never made the connection

They walk one road to set them free

And find they've gone the wrong direction

But there's no need for turning back

'cause all roads lead to where I stand

And I believe I'll walk them all

No matter what I may have planned

Can you remember who I was

Can you still feel it

Can you find my pain

Can you heal it

So lay your hands upon me now

And cast this darkness from my soul

You alone can light my way

You alone can make me whole

Once again

We've walked both sides of ev'ry street

Through all kinds of windy weather

But that was never our defeat

As long as we could walk together

So there's no need for turning back

'cause all roads lead to where we stand

And I believe we'll walk them all

No matter what we may have planned

You know I've heard about people like me. But I never made the connection. They walk one road to set them free, And find they've gone the wrong direction. But there's no need for turning back 'cause all roads lead to where I stand. And I believe I'll walk them all No matter what I may have planned

This is fascinating. I'm still reeling from the shock that Xita isn't...um...Xita's real name. Next you'll be telling me that Ruth isn't a virgin. When does the madness end??

My name, like me, is simple and unfunny. MadeinNZ is, wait for it .... Made in N Z (Made in New Zealand). It was a marketing campaign a few years ago. And I was. Made in NZ that is.

I can't wait for the day when I can change it to MadeoutinNZ. *sigh* One day ....

Edited to add: Sorry - it seems as if my explanation was a little bit unclear. I (being me) was (in the past) made (conceived) in (um...in) New Zealand (little country in the South Pacific). Hope that's clearer for some of the learning impaired (*coughxitacough*).

Hmmm, missed this thread somehow!! lol!

Well, I have been using my screen name for 5 years now...i chose cesario because it's from my favourite Shakespeare play, 'Twelfth Night', and is the alias that Viola (main character) goes by when she is disguised as a man. And 21 was my age at the time! Sadly not anymore! ;) I go by cesario24 on yahoo, as yep, you guessed it, I was 24 when I opened my yahoo account! :lol

My sig is an adapted piece of poetry by Sappho, which was used in a Xena ep (Many Happy Returns) and I just loved it! :love I tend to change them every once in a while...my favourite one was 'There is no such thing as lesbian divorce...there is only thermonuclear war and then best friends'! :lol

(gotta just use this emoticon, so I can send out a virtual big kiss to my gf! :bigkiss )

An old friend of mine when asked why he always dated the 'quiet ones' used to retort that they were the most 'interesting' [ie read 'HOT' amongst other things, we're talking the no-guilt 70's here :fallen ].

"Still waters run deep" was what he always said, and ever since, my own experiences have often borne this out.

So when I first saw Tara in 'Hush' that immediately came to mind, and when I became a Kitten that was the name I chose.

Re: What's In a Name?

I've strongly identified with Willow since "Welcome to the Hellmouth," and I loved the dark Willow of Tough Love. She's just so much like me. In spirit, at least. (-; Then things got really bad in season 6 so I found the Kitten. Despite finding lots of great stories on Pens, no one had written the stories I had in my mind so I decided I had to write and I needed a pseudonym to write under.

DarkMagicWillow seemed appropriate as I wanted to explore the dark Willow idea without all the stupidity and willful hurting of season 6. However, when I chose the name, I had only read some stories on Pens so I hadn't realized how many kittens use DMW to refer to the Willow from the end of season 6 who doesn't seem much like Willow at all to me.

OK, so my given name is Storm (no, not hippy parents, just mom's maiden name) and like AutumnT it always get taken by someone whose name isn't really Storm. Geez. Bunch of weather-wannabes. I picked weathergrrl, because when people can't remember my name, they usually come up with some kind of weather condition. I get a lot of Windy, Rainy, Downpour (well, maybe not downpour yet, but you'd be surprised...).

Hmm, I thught I'd replied to this one ages ago. I must be thinking of the thread from our former location. Was that really so long ago? :hmm

Anyway, my best friend Fred was making a new comic a few years back when we were in college. (This is how many of my close friends got their screen names as well!) She based characters on all of us and the names sort of became our aliases. Probably the one that stuck best was not TwiLight for me, but Redtail for another of our crew. Almost literally everyone calls her "Redtail" instead of her given name, and it's hard to remember to introduce her as Jessica as a result. Much to the confusion of many members of my family. :grin

And for the Joy part - oh yeah I almost forgot. It's another of the Painfully Obvious - my first name. Thanks Mom! :grin Everyone says it fits me very well, since my natural expression is a huge dopey grin.

Dead easy this one as I've explained in chat a few times.

Strapping Lass is what an ex of mine used to call me, if you are described as strapping its coz you are big and strong (I was about 4 inches taller than her and had a habit of sweeping her up and carrying her off to the bed room…or anywhere else…:wink ) and a lass is a girl. She also used to call me Strapping Wench but that has different connotations.:D

I've used the name Strapping Lass since I've first hopped on the net, it was my name when I used to post on the Xena 'nutforum' board or any other fan forums and is my hotmail address too, I have no other internet identity - strange but true.:p
