The ActiveX security feature is truly a pain in the butt in IE. I'm guessing that you have Service Pack 2 installed? To let the ActiveX feature to run, open Internet Explorer; click on Tools, then Internet Options. Click on the Advanced tab and scroll down to the Security category. Put a check next to "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" then click OK.

As for the music problem, you have to download the newest Quicktime (It comes with Itunes bundled into it). After you install it, you should get your music back on myspace.

does anyone have a gmail invite they'd be willing to hook me up with? my roommate just told me that she and the subletter want to get this cable/internet/phone package with a different company (which i'm not opposed to) but it means i'll lose my comcast email address so i figure i need something permanent. thanks!

ETA: i'm all set now, thanks to kathy!

Hi

I didn't realise this thread existed until this morning. This is great.

A schoolteacher friend of mine has had her class develop input forms for the incoming Year 7 students to enter their interests and some personal info, and now she wants to actually use one and gather the data into a database. I'm a programmer with limited experience in web sites trying to build up my knowledge, plus I want to help her - it's fun. (I worked for a large government org. where you only get to do one aspect of development - it's much more interesting, but challenging, to have to handle everything from development to uploading to the web server.)

Soooo, I've started checking out sites for a CGI script/s I can modify or mush together to suit my purpose, and now I'm curious: is there a default language for CGI, eg PHP, that will run on any server? The school pays an external provider for network stuff, but a lot of work is done by staff who've taught themselves just as much as they've needed to know to get the job done, (I think good teachers are worth their weight in gold) so not a lot of help available there. I'm not even sure yet whether the program is to run on a server belonging to the school or an external web host server - my friend is trying to find out for me.

Also, any recommendations for good sites for explaining CGI scripting would be appreciated.

TIA
Anne

Hey there, so I'm not one of the more technically inclined Kits.

I need to convert some files to PDF and don't have Adobe. Any recommendations on free downloads that would do the trick? :hmm

If you go to download.com, there's a list of file converters. I would try one that's free to use with a high number of downloads. Also, you could try adobe viewer, if you just want to see what's on the pdf files. Hope that helps.

I really don't know where to post this, but you can repost me to the right thread MODS. Anyway, I know there are a lot of talented kittens here who make amazing avatars, I would really appreciate it if anyone can explain to me how to make an avatar? Do I need some kind of program to make one, and could you pretty please explain to me how to make it? The simple, and the one that is moving and changing? :pray

Thanks in advance for helping... ;-)

Hey, ambercissism. The simple avatar is usually made with Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Paint or some other graphics or photo-editing software. The avatars that move are probably made with gif animators or something like that. If you google "gif animators" there are several sites that explain what that is, how it works, how to find good ones, how to use them, etc.

You might try posting in the old Official Avatar Thread in Mi2 where maybe someone experienced in avatar-making can help you out.

Thanks for the info maudmac, I'm gonna read the link that you gave... I'm sorry I have to post here, I didn't see that we have an avatar thread at Mi2. Luckily, Foo saw this post, so she already PMed me with the details and offered further help. Thank you guys ;-)

this is lame, and I feel lame asking it cause you think I could do something as easy as this.

Buuut how do you open a bin file or convert it? :| It's a movie file and I can't seem to open it. I have a program called MagicIso and it's supposed to turn the file into an ISO but with no luck.

Any help would be great :D
