Alright my playlist is waaay too long to list (there's a lot of stuff in it I don't even listen to anymore, weird :hmm ), so here's the stuff I listen to this time around:

Avril Lavigne - the album Let Go and two unreleased songs, "Why" and "Get Over It"

Not Available - all I could get from them, a german punk group but the lyrics are in english

NOFX - "So long and thanks for all the shoes", re-discovered them a little while ago

Sum 41 - "Does this look infected", heh, I love them

Tatu - "All the things she said", I can't get this song outta my head, argh!

O-Town - "From the damage", :blush , lalala I'm not embaressed, I'm not embaressed...seriously, there's a really looong story behind the O-Town thing, but damn it, the song is good!

Aimee Mann - "Lost in space", is there any reason not to love her? No? I thought so :)

Ash - nearly everything they did, just love 'em

God, I really do have a weird taste in music sometimes, oh well...whatever.

:love & :peace

Let's play, a different game than what we're playing

Pete Yorn

The Avalanches

and as ever Azure Ray and Kathryn Williams. Essential after any hard day.

Ya'know, I've said before how much I love Belle and Sebastian, but lately there's been a resurgence of love for the cutest crew to play on one stage.

I've been listening to If You're Feeling Sinister pretty much every day for the past month or so. I still love it. Good lord, how I love it.

I think my current favorites on the album are the "Charlie Brown" song (thanks Holley): "Seeing Other People," "Me and the Major" and the title track.

It makes me feel so gentle and happy. And I like that. A lot.

I really need a 12-step program for CD addiction. One store was having a $9.99 every CD sale...so of course, I arrive with credit card in hand...and end up with these to add to my playlist, and $100 more in debt (until Christmas bonus arrives).

Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk

Lifehouse - Stanley Climbfall

Alison Krauss & Union Station - New Favourite

Nickel Creek - This Side

Creed - My Own Prison

David Gray - White Ladder

David Gray - A New Day at Midnight

Coldplay - Parachutes

Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head

Again, I've got a pretty diverse playlist which keeps my friends amused for hours :) I've got about 20 gig stored on my hard drive (much to the horror of my friend who built my PC who thought even I couldn't get that many mp3's in six months - silly boy :D ) so it's hard to really pick a favourite. I think my friends gave up trying to pin down my musical tastes years ago! :D

Recently I've been listening to a lot of soundtracks, OMWF o'course, but also Clint Mansell's score for Requiem for a dream and Tan Dun's for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (both come highly recommended as do the film's - trust me I'm a projectionist he-hem ;) ) I've also been going through a bit of a singer/songwriter phase the past few months. Currently on the playlist are Gemma Hayes, Vanessa Carlton, Avril Lavigne, Beth Orton (who was bloody amazing live! :D ) Melissa Ferrick and a few others.

Favourite bands include Nine Inch Nails ( best gig I have ever been to!) Massive Attack, Filter, Train, Dave Matthews Band, Morcheeba, Death In Vegas, Nickelback, Jimmy Eat World and so the list goes on...

Best wishes to all,

Lou x

What's on the kittens' playlists?

Postby Twisted Minstrel » Tue Dec 10, 2002 12:05 am

I've been enjoying reading over this topic - I don't know where to begin, so many are already mentioned. My collection is over 2500 now (all completely indexed), thought I'd share a few favorites I haven't seen mentioned here (or skipped, sorry):

Pop/Rock:

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds, absolutely essential

Elvis Costello - w/The Brodsky Quartet (the Juliet Letters) or even Burt Bacharach!

Sting - almost anything

Leonard Cohen - amazing songwriter

XTC - anyone remember them? Senses working overtime? Anyone, anyone?

Steely Dan, The Art of Noise, Squeeze, David Byrne and Talking Heads; The Pretenders, Sophie Frost, Dido.

Julia Fordham
- Porcelain is essential

The Wondermints - poppy, Beach Boys-y, retro band.

Combustible Edison - 4 Rooms soundtrack, the Impossible Word, swinging fun!

Stereolab - Bizarre

The Sundays -

David Poe - the Late Album

Soundtracks:

High Fidelity, Twin Peaks, The Mambo Kings, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, Shadowlands, Sense and Sensibility, Heavenly Creatures, Pulp Fiction, About a Boy, the King and I, My Fair Lady, Romeo and Juliet (Nino Rota)

Jazz:

Bill Evans, Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Medeski Martin and Wood, Vince Guaraldi (Charlie Brown music), Van Morrison, Take 6, Billie Holiday, Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Dave Brubeck - Time Out

Classical:

Anything by the Kronos or Brodsky Quartets; Phillip Glass, Glenn Gould performs Bach; Rostropovich plays Bach cello suites; Shostokovich Trio, opus 67 - Isaac Stern, Emmanuel Axe and Yo Yo Ma; composer John Rutter and the Cambridge Singers, Astor Piazzola - Suite Punta Del Este

Country:

Dixie Chicks, the Mavericks

Other:

Tom Lehrer and Peter Schikele's PDQ Bach - very funny, musical men!

Okay...much too long. I need to find another hobby....

I for one can't believe that someone here has even heard of the Wondermints! They are fantastic, and I'm very chuffed to say I saw them in concert earlier this year with...Brian Wilson! And they performed the entire Pet Sounds album, with a few other Beach Boys songs. Brilliant.

So anyways, my favourite band of the moment is one called Calexico, who are rather good. Please listen to their songs as they're really obscure.

Xanadu21,

You have a fantastic line up! I just wanted to say that I just saw the Indigo Girls with Aimee Mann tuesday night. Lost in Space is such a great album. Do you have any of her other solo albums? Bachelor #2 and the soundtrack to Magnolia are also excellent choices! The Indigo Girls were wonderful as usual. It was just the two of them, no band, so it was even better because it was an acoustic show. I was kinda disappointed that they didn't play Least Complicated but they did do Galileo which made up for it. I just picked up Ani Difranco's, So much shouting So much laughter. I'm not a huge Ani fan but a friend recommended it and after listening to this i'd love to see her live. I also just picked up Beck's Sea Change and i'm not really a fan in general of that many male musicians but i saw him on some cable special over the weekend and i had to go out and pick up this album. I love Lost Cause and the rest of the album is just so incredible!

to throw my two cents in a little more....Tori is just so amazing. Scarlet's Walk reminds me a lot of Little Earthquakes. Although, i think it's much more intense. I love Poe! I listend to Haunted at work at least a few times a week. Tracy Chapman and REM-have been listening to both since the beginning. let's see...Coldplay is another artist i've been recently introduced to and love them! Do you listent to Travis at all? you'd probably like them if you like Coldplay? Norah Jones does have a beautiful voice, sultry and sexy also! i think i'm done with the comments as i haven't heard anything by Me'Shell NdegeOcello.

p.s. is your screen name Xanadu from the movie????

a Christmas playlist

Postby slowontheuptake » Sun Dec 15, 2002 1:14 am

Um, I have Lennon's "So This is Christmas" playing through my head at the moment.

Other ones I like singing along to;

Jingle bells, Jingle bells

Santa Clause is dead.

Rudolf took a fourtyfour

and shot him in the head.

(or the alternate((G.I. Joe Eskimo

shot him in the head.))

Barbie doll, Barbie doll

tried to save his life,

but G.I. Joe Eskimo

stabbed her with his knife!

interchangeble with;

Jingle bells, Batman smells

Robin layed an egg.

Batmobile lost it's wheel

and Joker got away. Hey!

And my personal favorite "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer."

Oh! and "Choir of the Bells."

Does this count as a playlist? There are so few Christmas songs that I would want stuck in my head that I purposely try for these ones before going shopping.:p

Hey everyone....

My ma n' pa are having a dinner party tonight, so Ive spent most of this evening flicking through the TV channels to cover over the sound of their conversations.

Anyways, I got to the music channels, and there was this video. Dark, and rainy, it was showed to girls in school uniforms on one side of a fence, with lots of people shaking heads disaprovingly on the other.

The song was called 'All the Things She Said', Ive tracked down the lyrics. Has anyone else heard it? Have they done anything else?

All the things she said

All the things she said

Running through my head

All the things she said

All the things she said

Running through my head

This is not enough

I'm in serious shit,

I feel totally lost

If I'm asking for help it's only

because

Being with you

has opened my eyes

Could I ever believe such a perfect

surprise?

I keep asking myself,

wondering how

I keep closing my eyes but I can't

block you out

Wanna fly to a place

where it's just you and me

Nobody else so we can be free

All the things she said

All the things she said

Running through my head

All the things she said

All the things she said

Running through my head

This is not enough

This is not enough

All the things she said

All the things she said

And I'm all mixed up,

feeling cornered

and rushed

They say it's my fault

but I want her so much

Wanna fly her away

where the sun and rain

Come in over my face,

wash away all the shame

When they stop and stare

- don't worry me

'Cause I'm feeling for her

what she's feeling for me

I can try to pretend, I can try to forget

But it's driving me mad,

going out of my head

Mother looking at me

Tell me what do you see?

Yes, I've lost my mind

Daddy looking at me

Will I ever be free?

Have I crossed the line?

www.mtv.co.uk/mtv.co.uk/e...d=30023989

MTV have advertised it on thier homepage as 'lesbians snogging' I think theres a download of the video available.

Re: T.A.T.U

Postby Jimmi Magnus » Sat Dec 28, 2002 5:08 pm

Reading this post, I went downloaded the music video. Not knowing that I'd heard this song in the radio, a lot.

I got the English version, and the Russian one as well. If you like the girls and the music, I would recommend getting the Russian version. It looks like the English vid is a heavily edited version of the Russian one. Every lip-sync has been removed (because lip-syncing to English in Russian looks wrong).

This kinda destroys the part before the kiss, where the blond girl sings reassuringly to the dark haired one, prompting the dark haired one to kiss her passionately.

The video is very heavy on symbolism.

It shows us two girls in school uniforms (innocent and sweet), but they are behind a fence, looking out on the rest of the people/world(they are not like the rest). On the other side of the fence we have a whole host of people just standing there. Not moving (living), just observing. The girls try to find a way through the fence (be like the rest of the world), but they can't. The dark haired one seem to despair, when the blonde starts reassuring her. Then they kiss, and the crowd on the other side of the fence looks mortified at this (clearly a homophobic reaction. the only reaction they make). Then we have a long stretch of the video, where the girls keep kissing/try getting through the fence/sit looking alone and lost(feel like the world cast them aside). In the end, the girls hold hands, and look for something else. They realize that there's a way out from there. They walk away from the fence, hand in hand. The last shot shows the two of them walking into a big open world, hand in hand (accept who you are and be happy. Fuck the rest).

All in all this video/song is clearly about two young women in love, who feel the society's pressure to be "normal". But they come through, and realize that they don't need to listen to anyone else. The only thing they need is to accept themselves, and their love.

Beautiful video :)

I was listening to the radio today and they made a big deal about playing the TATU song.

Apparently the single is being released in the UK at the end of January.

Music industry "insiders" say they're expecting a top five entry into the charts, with it possibly clinching the number one spot.

And the reason? Well, they're putting it solely down to the video.

Do I not like that - GT
