It seems like quite some posters in this thread have the opportunity of working with children

.
I currently do as well and love it. We deal with victims of abuse, both of a sexual and physical nature, as well as monitor child development programmes. Basically, it's mostly field work and one of its major constraints is being on-call for the Hotline 24 hours a day – that means, taking calls from home yet remaining available whenever an emergency crops up. I had difficulties in coping with such situations of crises last year when I would be studying and receiving calls during the night.
We have had some nutty cases – at times, it feels incredible how people can misinterpret situations of abuse such as the most recent one which involved the apparent cold-blooded murder of 50 chicks (I'm sparing you the details but when we reached there, it wasn't as dramatic as ascertained by the panic-stricken caller

). However, genuine cases of incest and paedophilia are always heartbreaking.
The team though is fantastic to work with and that makes up for all the hardships
