Cool! Great question.

Barenaked Ladies - their greatest hits album, 'Disc One', is a perfect sampler. No need to mix or match.

Diana Krall - my fave album is 'When I Look In Your Eyes', but I think the new live album should be good too.

Moxy Fruvous - Gotta love manic energy. Especially live ('Live Noise').

Sarah McLachlan - I just rotate albums. 'Fumbling', 'Surfacing', 'Mirrorball', 'Remixed'. Repeat. ;)

Some Enya in the mix too, along with Nova Scotia celtic (Mary Jane Lamond), and the occasional classical, light techno, folk, etc.

Ok, if you insist... ;) First, let me say, I own way too much music (if there ever is such a thing :) ). I so need to buy new racks to stock my CDs. Uch, the burden of listening to different genres, buying and copying stuff.

Went to our local library today: a half year must have passed since I last rented some CDs there. Came home with the new Nathalie Imbruglia (White lilies island), Lenny Kravitz (Lenny -> how original), Lucinda William's Essence, Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory and Kirsten's The Chick Singer (who turned out to be a Dutch girl: nice). Wanted to rent Dark Tranquility, coz I'm going to a metalconcert (Sinergy !) in November, and try out Jeff Buckley and Sophie B Hawkins, but you can only get away with so much (5 CDs's the limit). /sigh/ All those precious CDs... (Dream Theater, Iced Earth, Gammy Ray, Helloween...) Ah well, there'll be other days.

Had to copy some things for a couple of American girls we met on our backpacking trip in Ireland. Our national pride K's Choice The Subconscious Club and Almost Happy, my all-time favourite singer-songwriter CD Fumbling towards ecstasy, and Amanda Marshall's debut album.

I made mix too: kind of a tribute to grrl power ! Check this out:

1 Girl - Tori Amos

2 Volcano girls - Veruca Salt

3 Candy perfume girl - Madonna

4 I'm the girl - Heather Nova

5 Cornflake girl - Tori Amos

6 Party girl - Eden

7 Mer girl - Madonna

8 Little girl - Roxette

9 Strange little girl - Tori Amos

10 Lonely girls - Lucinda Williams

11 What it feels like for a girl - Madonna

12 She's got her ticket - Tracy Chapman

13 She cries your name - Beth Orton

14 She's my heroine - Skunk Anansie

15 She's your cocaine - Tori Amos

16 Ice Queen - Within Temptation

And then the CD was full /chuckle/ Nuts... But I passed my reexaminations, with honour ! And a gal has to stay busy doing something ;) ROCk on, tigers ! ;)

So what DO people think of the new Aimee Mann CD? There's nothing on there as dropdead amazing as Deathly from Bachelor No. 2, but having said that, "High On Sunday 51" is pretty darn cool.

A sample from my ridiculously long playlist for today:

- Kathleen Wilhoite's Pitch Like A Girl album

- Dar Williams' Mortal City (6 years old, and still getting better every time I listen to it)

- Baby Animals Baby Animals (suffering from its age, I suspect)

- a remix of Innocence Mission's Snow (surprisingly good! I'm horrified)

- Over The Rhine's Films For Radio album

- Erin McKeown's Queen Of Quiet (free MP3 download from Amazon.com -- check it out!)

And Poe's Haunted album does rock. Anyone have any ideas as to when she'll put something new out?

Well, usually when I find a new song/band, it's all I listen to. So, lately its been Michelle Branch, namely her new one The Game of Love. And, my girlfriend just got me into Avril Lavigne. I didnt like her, and then I was informed that Skater Boy wasnt a fair represntation. Now the rest of her album is all I've been listening to. It rocks. Other than that I have a wide range of music interests. It would take too long to name them all.

Willow made a small fist and waved it at her (Tara), and the two grinned in that secret knowing way lovers ever did. It amazed him now, looking back upon it, that he had not realized sooner that Willow and Tara were more than merely friends. -Giles, "The Wisdom of War" My Journal

Hmm... so far my favorites are Naked, Things I'll Never Say, I'm With You, and My World. The styles are very different from her radio singles. Does that help? Naked was what got me hooked.

Hemiola, it's nice to find another classical musician among the Kittens.:)

My current playlist:

Movie stuff: The Soundtrack from "The Talented Mr. Ripley;" "Spellbound"--Classic Film Scores of Miklos Rozsa

Classical: Korngold: "Die Tote Stadt"; Brahms:German Requiem; Strauss: Four Last Songs (the Jessye Norman recording). Dutilleux: Sonatine for Flute and Piano (the Anne Diener Giles recording)

Other stuff: Anything by Bob Wills; Ella Fitzgerald--The Cole Porter Songbooks; Desi Arnaz and his Orchestra; Basia--Time and Tide; Early Shelby Lynne and k.d.lang recordings (from when they were still country artists.) And for those, uh, private moments, Anita Baker or Luther Vandross.

Indygo: Yeah, its a duet with Santana. Its very different for her, I think. But I love it. I was hoping that it meant a new MB album, but its gonna be on his new one. And dont worry. Its brand new.

Music, my constant friend. This week I've been listening to:

Indigo Girls mp3s of a concert they did for the ALA - (is that right?) something to do with librarians because they kept saying librarians were cool, which made my librarian friend happy when I recorded it for her.

Dixie Chicks new album "Home".

Gemma Hayes' album "Night on my side", because its great and I saw her in concert the other week and she was nominated for a Mercury. And she's Irish!

Nina Simone, because I was in a bad mood last night and her voice always lifts me.

I have a playlist with about 550 songs in it and love to put it on shuffle play because its hilarious when say Rage Against The Machine follow Joni Mitchell.

Anita Baker - Rapture

Meshell Ndegeocello - Bitter

Indigo Girls - Swamp Ophelia

Ani Difranco - So much Shouting, so much laughter

Beth Orton - Central Reservation

Molly I think you and I have very similar cd collections. *S*

Molly, I'm jealous because I love Luka Bloom, he's one of my all time favourite singers. I've been lucky enough to see him in concert 5 times and actually met him. Really nice guy and seeing him sing "I need love" is a special experience. I have to say the Irish accent is the sexiest in the world, hence my love of Irish music. *S*

I don't know if Avril Lavigne's full album is even out here already ? They sure play Complicated a lot, and I always crank it up. Didn't Amber (and Nick) announce her on that Music Awards thingie ? Think that's when I first heard mentioning her. When Complicated came out, I was like: oh, that's how she sounds, looks like... Amber's got such good taste ! :) BTW, don't you think Avril looks a bit like the earlier Buffy ? Must be the hair, but her face too... Ok, so she wears much make-up that makes her wicked eyes come out more... Maybe it's just me. Ah well, she sure has attitude, something I missed in Buffy a long time ago. Anyway, after seeing her perform Skater Boy, etc. on the MTV music awards, her sweet speech, kick-ass image, I hope I can get my hands on the CD here soon.

I'm sensing a huge Avril Lavigne consensus here. Strange… uh, it’s the tie, it must be the tie. You know, in the video of ‘Complicated’, she has that little kilt-fabric tie on top of her tank top...*ensues in wistful sighage* It must be it.

I also like Travis (been a fan since their first album), weezer, LTJ, muse, coldplay (although I havn't got their new album yet), and some girly compulsories thrown in cos I'm a girl; sarah mclaughlan (ugh - i can NEVER spell her name!), heather nova, and tori amos all have some groovy stuff too.
