And it IS over! 6-3 6-3 and Martina's equalled B.J.King's 20 titles record. It was an awesome moment. Not the greatest tennis if I'm totally honest but the moment the final score came up was truly emotional. Fantastic achievement !

Well that was just the perfect ending to this year's tournament. Martina Navratilova is just awesome. She could wipe the court with most people half her age. I hope she will return again next year to break the record.

I certainly don't miss them. I actually got to see Lindsay Davenport play on tv. That is something that rarely happens if they are in the same tournament. Unless, of course, she's playing one of them.

When the best play they usually get the most attention, I guess the 'problem' is that the US has so many strong players, even someone as strong as Lindsay Davenport does not get as much attention as she once did. I think it is a shame they are not there, the strongest players should compete in a grand slam tournament, that makes the title all the more special to whoever wins it. Should Lindsay Davenport win it this year some people might say it only happened because the William sisters weren't there, which would not be altogether fair, they are not unbeatable, Kim Clijsters in no 1 in the world now after all. I hope they will recover soon so next time the winner will have won over the best.

I'm not sure if your post was directed at me, but I didn't say when is someone else going to win. It was more of a statement about who gets the tv coverage and who doesn't. If the Williams sisters are in the same tournament, they definitely get all of the coverage all of the time. But now that you mention it, I would like to see someone else win something. They are good. Hopefully, some of the other girls can catch up to them soon. I think this would definitely make Women's tennis more interesting.

And I don't mind watching the william's sisters. Actually, I wish they would just stop showing the men, I have to sit through tons of guys I've never heard of to watch one women's match. Bleh.

Yeah, there in lies a big problem methinks. The greater part of what gets shown on TV here is men's tennis, from number one to number who the hell is he, every point of every game. Then there is the added annoyance of having to listen to the male commentators (on Dutch tv) whining about how small the women's tennis top is, how little competition, how low the quality, when for years and years with men's tennis it has been Sampras, Sampras, Sampras, bore me some more, Sampras. Blergh. I prefer watching women's tennis over boy tennis any day. Oh hurrah, right now they are repeating a Sampras game from last year because lord knows there is nothing else to show. Don't get me wrong, just because I don't care for men's tennis does not mean I think it is crap, eventhough it is , I just don't see why women's tennis is being treated as somehow inferior.



And yeah, show us Mauresmo already. If you look at her results of the last two years at the US open

: quarter final in 2001, semi final in 2002, she should make it to the final this year.

Well after watching Justine beat Jennifer yesterday, I was really impressed with her game. Usually I don't like that kind of small kind of player. I like the big powerhouses. But she looks bigger than she is and she has a lot of power and a lot of game, she doesn't rely on speed like a lot of those smaller players. I like her game and I was very impressed today with her match against Kim. She has a lot of shots, a lot of game. I am fan.



I even watched the men's match which was good cause I caught a glimpse of Steffi Graf. Sigh. I keep forgetting she's married to agassi.

Personally, I never got tired of seeing an Agassi vs. Sampras final. I can't speak for all people though. But I would much rather see that final than a Williams vs. Williams final. Again, this is my personal opinion. I find their matches boring, and don't really care to see them. I think it may be their dad.



Anyway, I saw the Roddick match. It was good. He came back from two sets down to win. So at least there's an American in one of the finals.

I am not trying to be argumentative, but what does their father have to do with them? They are nothing like their father. One thing you can say about the Williams sisters is people talk bad about them, but you NEVER hear them say a bad word about anyone else.



Speaking of boring, did you see their three set match at the Australian Open? This is one of the best matches I have ever seen them play. I think Venus and Serena both are very entertaining to watch.

I personally love the Williams sisters. They have an awesome game, they are fair players, who show up to play and not perform. I enjoy skill and they have it. I just wish that the network would show more women's tennis so that we would see more players not just the last couple of matches in a tournament.

Their father is their... um father. So therefore, he has something to do with them. Maybe the reason that we don't hear them say bad things about other players is because their dad does all of the talking? I just find him really annoying. And since he's their father and their coach... um... so there. Plus, when they're playing each other who's to say they don't just say... okay you win this one and I'll take the next one?



I never said they weren't good. I never said they aren't awesome athletes. I just said that to me, when they play, it's boring.

Ah well, whether the way some people play is boring is subjective. Personally Sampras, and in fact most male players, bore me senseless so I don't watch them. However with men's tennis you do get enough choice to watch whoever you want, so it is easier to avoid the ones who appeal to you less, with women's tennis it is usually the semi-finals and the finals and a few big names in the first rounds. The coverage is much more limited than with the men, at least that is how it is on Dutch tv, maybe it is also because we don't have any top women tennis players (yet). Anyway, when the Williams sisters do play, they are usually at the top, so they get more coverage. As it is, I rather not see them play each other, especially not in a finale, it is purely subjective, but I rather see them playing any different opponent than each other. I know it is silly, I know that when they play each other they certainly don't try any less hard to win or play any less awesome tennis, but I don't know, it feels like the Williams family has already won so part of the tension of a finale is gone for me. Also, I always like to have a favourite when I watch a game and since I like them equally I don't have that favourite.



As for their father, well if he is interviewed just click him away, that is what I used to do to mr.Graf. I have seen the Williams sisters interviewed several times and they always come across as nice, well spoken and respectful of their opponents. I loved Steffi Graf, but I always winced when they zoomed in on her father. Brrr, I did not like the man, I always got the impression that he was riding on his daughter's coattails, living of her accomplishments and fame. Bleh. Anyway, speaking of Steffi..

Hee, that is why I watch his games when I can. Damn she looked good with her hair back to it's natural color. *sigh* I wish she would make a come back like Martina and start playing doubles matches at Wimbledon again. Women's doubles matches, preferably with Gabriela Sabatini. It is not like they are too old for it. I would be glued to the tube, and all because of their wonderful personalities and tennis skills of course. Well, mostly for those reasons.
