No, you're not, hellmouthhottie20. I am. So sorry 'bout that. The TMF awards are kinda like the equivalent of the MTV music awards or something, only at a much smaller scale, and national, in Belgium. Though TMF-viewers (TMF's a music tv channel -> The Music Factory) in the Netherlands could tune in too. Hope this helps.

You're most welcome, Caz :) Yup, Avril looked like da bomb, even if it was only on a short piece of black and white video. Totally dig her style. How a 16/17 year old (co-)writes her own lyrics, sings, performs like that, and manages to keep her cool, simply be thankful... Hope she keeps it up. BTW, saw her new video Sk8ter boi on MTV (The Fridge) totally. Whoa ! And friends are already pointing at my one row spiked black leather arm band... Heh ;)

this week in music....

Postby disey6821 » Mon Nov 04, 2002 4:36 pm

Hey Kittens!

I pretty much listen to all kinds of music, although i tend to veer towards female singers. I also love alternative, some indie, pop (i'm such an 80's child) and dance.

Currently i've been listening to:

Dixie Chicks, Home-love love love this album!!!

Shea Seger- the May Street project

Emily Sparks-what could not be buried

Kay Hanley-Cherry Marmalade

Aimee Mann-Lost in Space

Tanya Donelly-Beautysleep

Beck-Sea Change

OMWF

Lucinda Williams-Essence

Avril Lavinge-Let Go

luckily i can also listen to music at work or else i couldn't survive. today was somewhat of a mellow day being Monday and all so it's been a little of Portishead-Dummy, Poe-Haunted, Supreme Beings of Leisure and just ending the day on a more upbeat note with a little ABBA-Gold.

Lucinda Williams' Essence was one of my latest assets (copied though). Lonely girls...

Abba Gold: Damn, it's been a while since I've listened to that tape: good best of

Bush: fave song: Letting the cables sleep. "Silence is not the way... We need to talk about it..." -> season severed much ?

Radiohead: OK computer -> great CD, very emotional concert I witnessed from that tour once... Think I'm gonna try and borrow my sister's boyfriend's other CD of Radiohead to copy it. Heh, I always seem to do that: use her boys by getting their music. Ah well, at least my sis won't have to worry about me stealing them ;)

I love music. I usually have one person I listen to most of the time until I get into someone else. Right now it seems to be Mary Chapin Carpenter. Before that it was Chris Isaak, S Club, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Amy Grant and Norah Jones. I will listen to damn near anything.

Hem was pretty good too. Hi, Holley!

I wondered if anyone was going to mention Turin Breaks, Save me is a wonderful track. I saw them play that track live at a radio one roadshow last summer.

So this week I have mostly been listening to:

David Gray - A new day at midnight

Red Hot Chilli Peppers -By the way

Kylie- Greatest Hits

er Kylie, it's a thing! ok. I should be so lucky is a quality pop track.

Edited to add:

Yeah, David Grays album is worth getting, if you liked the album tracks off white ladder. Locomotion? Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi is more of a classic than that ever was :lol

Guilty pleasures (musical, you pervs)

Postby Ben Varkentine » Thu Nov 21, 2002 2:16 pm

In honor of Zippy's Kylie confession, I offer the following examples of things I listen to probably *far* too much...

After Eight", by Taco. I pretty much love the version of "Singing In The Rain" full stop. I was playing the vinyl version of this album at work once though, and the record skipped during "Puttin' On The Ritz". Unfortunately it was

during the percussion break so I didn't notice for like 20 minutes. Actually, what makes this album work is the fact that most of the songs are so classic ("I Should Care") that even the cheesiest of synths can't hurt them.

"Too Shy The Singles And More", by Kajagoogoo and Lihmal. There's scarcely a track on here that doesn't have something wrong with it. A stupid lyric, a bad keyboard part, or some combination. Only possible exceptions: "Neverending

Story" and the "Hang On Now" extended mix. But I like it, what can I say? Also see: This Time-The 1st 4 Years, by Culture Club.

"Straight Up", by Paula Abdul. Oh-oh-oh. A brilliant record of a stupid song. The stretch for the rhyme of "Are you more than hot for me, or am I a page in your history...book?" is the most endearingly awkward lyric since "Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You) by Flock Of Seagulls...which should also make my list.

Kylie Minogue. "I should be so lucky, lucky, lucky lucky." Need I say more? This gets credit for the fact that the "I, I, (I, I)" part is in the lyric sheet.

Bros. I still have no idea how to pronounce this. Bros feature heavily in "Literally" (A book about Pet Shop Boys) so when I found their album cheap I picked it up on curiosity alone. It's almost touching how badly they seem to want to be PSB, especially on "When Will I Be Famous". I like that track, and

two or three of the others are good as well, but it's not like you can't tell why they were a 2 or three hit wonder (Probably generous)

And, of course, The Fixx.

And Yet More Favorites...

Postby seurat » Thu Nov 21, 2002 9:33 pm

On the playlist this week...

First, a couple of holdovers. Tegan And Sara - If It Was You - is great fun, catchy and clever, and if you could see them doing these songs live as I did last Sunday you too would be unable to resist. Check it out.

The Bangs - Call And Response- is fast and loud and grrrly and still gets played start to finish nearly every day. And they really must play here. Soon.

Low - "Canada', from the new cd, is one of the best songs they've ever done, highly recommended.

Rainer Maria- Ears Ring - is their new three song ep, a teaser for the forthcoming full-length cd from a band that's always been a favorite.

Rilo Kiley also have a new cd that's also getting played every day. And I heartily second or third or whatever the motion that we should all listen to Kasey Chambers,

great songs, great voice, awesome live performer, what's not to like.

I just got Tori's new album, Scarlet's Walk today and I think I've listened to it three times now. It's so beautiful and magical, listening to it is like I'm drowing in soft rose-petal kisses.

Also I'm listening alot to older jazz music- Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armtrong, Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan.

The Tori album is truly superb. It grows on you even more as you 'learn' it. It's a 74-minute religious experience.

And in the "opposites attract" department: This week I want to listen to Pavement; the gf wants Wagner. Thank God we agree on Tori.

Wow, that was so close to being empowering. --"Same Time, Same Place"

Hi,

just want to throw my two cents in the we love Tori's new album club! I went with a friend to see her sunday night in Rhode Island then she practically forced me to go again thursday up in Lowell, MA. I have to say i was glad i went because thursday's show was so much better. she played different songs each night from the Scarlet's Walk and she also did Silent All These Years which she seldom plays in concert and ended with Hey Jupiter which is one of my favorites. now, only if she would have played China that would have topped both nights but both shows were amazing in themselves.

I also saw Tori in concert. She's such a full Goddess. I absolutely adore her and her music, this new album is just...I'm listening to it right now and I was so excited when I first heard about a new album coming out by her but wow, wow has it surpassed everything I expected. It's funny too, because at the concert I bumped into every lesbian I know and one of my best gay boys who I hadn't seen in ages. Made me all happy-like. And the concert itself... oh wow, when she played Precious Things the crowd and Tori went nuts, she was really amazing and the audiance was totally eating it up. And, on a superficial note, the set was so pretty!
