Well so far as I can tell - just from the occasional interviews and reports on the site, because the local news hasn't bothered reporting anything at all aside from Lleyton, Agassi's farewell, and Maria Sharapova's butt (not that I mind that so much) - Amelie's cruising along nicely. Not without hiccups here and there, but no cause to hit the panic button. I see though that she's up against Serena Williams tonight, so that'll be crunch time no doubt, and of course it'll find me glued to the crappy online scoreboard, cheering her on. Go Amelie! :pride

Amelie beat Serena! So happy to see that Mauresmo doesn't beat herself nowadays, that second set was scary but she bounced back!

Davenport lost to Henin-Hardinne 4 and 4. I was rooting for Lindsay to win this, sentimental favorite and what not, but Justine was playing well.

I think I heard one of the commentators saying that if Lindsay would've won that match she would've been the woman with the most career earnings at a little over $21.9 million, beating out Steffi who has about $21.9 million. So Steffi still has the most earnings ever for a woman.

Did I hear that right? Or am I imagining things? Anyone know?

What in the world happens to Amelie Today?

She gets beaten in the first set 6-0, comes back to win the second set 6-4 but then falls apart again in the third set to get beaten 6-0 again. It seems like she just gives the match away. I thought she would be more competitive.

My thoughts exactly. She seemed really tight and distracted. Although to be fair Sharapova was playing really well.

*is devastated* :aww

(And peeved that the US Open site is taking its sweet time getting an interview transcript after the semi-final.)

(Maybe Amelie was distracted by Sharapova's little black dress? ;-) )

There is an interview and profile of Amelie Mauresmo in this week's Observer which I found interesting.

The Australian Open is over now, and I didn't have time to catch much of the Tennis. I was sad when Mauresmo went out, looks like a bad start to the year for her.

On the other hand, wow Serena surprised. I did not expect her to take the title. It just goes to show that she has tons of talent. I can't imagine the dominance she might have had, had she just concentrated on tennis.

It's that time of the year again, the first grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open :D
I am for some reason extremely fond of this particular Grand Slam, maybe it's the promise of new beginnings that comes with every new year, maybe it's the fact that the time difference it's just so huge that the watching of any match live on tv turns into a late night slumber party on the couch :blush
Sadly this year my schedule is a lot less flexible than it has once been, downside of growing up, i guess, lol, so i haven't yet watched a single match but i have been checking out the results of the matches on the official site.
I'm a die hard Mauresmo's fan so even though she hasn't been at the top of her game for a while now i'm still holding on to some hope that she can do well :pray

So is anyone watching the Australian Open? Who do you think are the favourites for the title?
