Rob Zombie or White Zombie?

Postby ChibiWillowR » Tue Oct 08, 2002 12:00 am

So, I guess I'll ask yous guys the question I always ask when Rob Zombie gets brought up. Did you like him better in White Zombie, or solo? I like him period, but I did like White Zombie a lot better.

Oooh, ChibiWillowR tough question:hmm . This has been brought up among friends as well.

I have to honesly say it wavers. When Rob went solo, I loved his new stuff, much more computer generated tecno aspects. Then at a point I went back to Old school White Z for it's kickass straight up metal. At the moment, I'd say White Zombie but thats bound to change.

OT? Listening to Static X at the moment:evil . Was listening to Live and Radiohead.

This (Rob Zombie) reminds me that I forgot to mention Alice Cooper in my playlist! :shock

But that's because what I call "playlist" is my Winamp playlist and I actually have all of Alice's albums on CD, not mp3!

Anyway, he's the only one I've been totally faithful to in the last 10 years, and I'm going to his concert in Paris next month, I can't wait! I saw him last year too and it was great : front row, fake blood splattered all over me (love the guillotine!) etc :grin

Alice rules!

Ooh that's another toughie!

I always think about it like this - Mr Zombie got himself into a lose/lose situation, but managed to dig himself out quite admirably.

In White Zombie he felt that the other band members didn't share his view of where the music should go...

BUT by firing some damn good musicians, ALL the creative process fell down to him, so without that backing he couldn't fully realise his ideas.

Hence you end up with the 1st Rob Zombie album, being pretty convincing in places, but which degenerates into self-indulgent sloppiness with lyrics like "Hell yeah, I'm the one that you wanted, Hell yeah, I'm the Super Beast" or "Go, Go Zombie, Go, Go, Yeah!" which are pretty cringe-worthy.

White Zombie just seemed more deep, with more to get your teeth into.

Here's one that'll bust your noggin. What's better, the originals or the remixes? Same qu. but also for "fear factory".

I think that Michelle Branch's "Goodbye To You" that was played on Buffy is better than the one on her album. I like it without all the production in it.

Also in regards to 4WiccanLuv's fetish for female rock bands or female fronted bands, I have the same thing. I went through a phase a couple of years ago where all I listened to were female artists or bands.

i totally agree, the acustic'ish version (michelle branch song) has a lot more impact than the album released version. i was actually hoping to get a hold of the "real" one from btvs show. does anyone know where i can find it?

someone pointed out to me that over 97% of the cd's i own are female artists. i never really paid attention to it until then. they just appeal to me.

Ok, somebody spank me now... LOL I bought another one, and it's all your fault ! ;) Avril, baby ! Wicked album. You know how you immediately take to one song, that becomes your favourite on that CD (like Patty Griffin's Goodbye, Dido's Take my hand, Madonna's The power of goodbye (even before she made it her next hit, etc.) Well, mine's "I'm with you" I like it when there's a bit of a climax in a song: all that energy let loose: coolness :)

Thanks, luv.

Love is tricky. It is never mundane or daily. You can never get used to it. You have to walk with it, then let it walk with you. You can never balk. It moves you like the tide. As I mentoned before, I'm a total Rock N Roll gal, but I do have a mellow side. A friend let me borrow a Wilco CD and it just blew me away.....acoustics, strong melodies, a very pleasant voice...they're awesome....it rocks in a nice mellow relaxing way!!!!

Leaping into this thread I feel like Laine on this weeks Gilmore Girls, how do you not mention every band or artist you've ever loved (and wasn't it great that she namechecked The Adverts, btw). but I will try to restrain myself a bit. The new ep by The Bangs is great, as is the new Sahara Hotnights, and of course Sleater-Kinney. Then there's Gemma Hayes, Thea Gilmore, Emm Gryner, the Sarahs - Slean, Harmer and Mclachlan - and Heather Nova, Laura Cantrell, Neko Case, Caitlin Cary,

and going back a bit, Maria Mckee and Anna Domino.

Ans, sigh, so many more. No wonder my paycheck never lasts.

My Playlist (With a bold, fancy title :-P)

Well, I have a large variety of musical tastes. I have many different friends who like different types of music, and I tend to listen to them all, and actually like them all. The music I like best, however, are the ones I've accidentally "discovered" myself, or the ones that are recommended by an online friend (who is cool).

Michelle Branch (she rocks!)

Alanis Morissette

"Under your Spell" and "Wish I could Stay" from Buffy musical.

Dido

Sarah McLachlan (especially her beautiful songs from BtVS!)

Vanessa Carlton

Avril Lavigne

Some of the Moulin Rouge soundtrack (I can't get enough of "Come What May".)

Alison Krauss

Lifehouse

Incubus

Nickleback...

and this list goes on!

Flaming hell ! I saw Sahara hotnights at Pukkelpop (summer festival) about a year ago, seurat. Never heard of them, just read the description (punky girl band, etc.) and just had to go and watch/listen. They totally ROCked ! I really should try and get my greedy hands on some of their stuff (uhm, did that came out wrong ? ;) ) Any CDs you'd recommend ?

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but there's a band named T.A.T.U. who have at least a videoclip (of the song 'All the Things she said') of them (two women) kissing, holding hands, etc...

Anyway... the official link is this: www.tatu.ru

And there's also this one: www.ta-tu.net/

Both the music and clip for 'All the Things She Said' are great. :) Enjoy!
