That's right ! We passed Slane ! Not that I'm this big U2 fan: only recently received their best of CD, but still: decent rock classics like With or without you (made my last Xena music video on that one, based on the last eps Friend in need).

The weather was surprisingly good. I mean: I expected anything, coming from a rainy country myself, but except from our Celtic Experience (starting in Dublin, and moving towards the Hill of Tara :) and stuff) we couldn't complain. On that trip, my friend wore the wrong shoes (they leaked) and coat (not a raincoat), so she suffered a bit from a cold for the rest of the trip (whereas I had started out with one) but when we walked a part of the Burren Way (area of Doolin) she actually got sun-burned. Ireland: land of extremes /chuckle/ We got home in a heat wave (which is so uncharacteristically for Belgium). But back on topic: if you ever want anything, I have... If I got a spare CD, I'll be happy to send you a copy. Ask Toni (Kieli) for references: I'm reliable ;)

Wow, soembody else loves B&S!

jaycatt23, Not only do I absolutely love Belle and Sebastian, but I have an interesting Mogwai story. When I first moved out of my parents' house I had this really crappy CD player in my bathroom. And there was disc 2 of a two-CD Mogwai set stuck in my CD player. God how I miss that CD! I always enjoyed Mogwai.

As for Belle and Sebastian, I'm still kind of stuck in the late '90s with "If you're feeling sinister" and "the boy with the arab strap."

I had the immense pleasure of seeing them play in Atlanta last May. It was absolutely amazing. I totally love those guys.

A friend of mine forgot his Herbert Grönemeyer CD ("Mensch") in "my" car after we brought my stuff to Berlin last Thursday and I kinda forgot to tell him :whistle Now it's all mine for a week :grin

Great music and even better lyrics - what more do you want?

killin joke - ah yes, with or without you is definately their best song. they're releasind their second best of album(1990-2000)some time in november.

i spent the summer in the states and was miffed to hear i missed the rare thing that is good weather in this country. just typical!!

thanx for the offer of the cds, i would offer to do the same, but unfortunately i don't have a cd re-writer. rite now college is draining all of my money. (it's too bloody expensive!)

i do however have more than one of quite a few of my cds, you know how it is when christmas comes!! (i ended up with 3 of the one cd last year). so i'd be happy to pass them on if there was any you liked, cause ya know, you'd be helping me out really. i'd have more space for new cds!!

"Bochum" is great, too, but my favorites are "Tanzen", "Die Härte" and pretty much everything else from that MTV Unplugged CD.

Go, Jessica ! Great to hear from another Symhony X fan. They cancelled two times on me already, but I read they're coming to Belgium next year, together with Stratovarius (cool Finnish ? band), so maybe I'll give it another shot. Three times a charm, right :)

Thanks for saluting my fave hit choice, Mz Zapruder /chuckle/ Sorry to read you missed the nice weather, but hey: you were in America, girl ! Never been to the states, only Peru (granted: Latin-America, very beautiful).

About the college thing: I so read ya ! Just started again too, and a lot of my budget went to the buying of books and syllabi. And then there's the funny notion of food and drinks of course ;)

LOL Yeah, the double CD thing. I received the Gladiator-soundtrack for my birthday two times. Surprisingly, I managed to speak up for myself, coz I could still trade it for another CD. Normally I'm just polite: smile and be quiet, you know. But don't worry about returning something. If I got some spare CDs and find the time during the weekends, it's no prob. I don't think my addy is visible, so I'll try to send it through a private message, as not to bug the other kitties on the board, k ;)

Some great choices here. I can't believe I haven't posted here earlier, bit of a music freak I dare to say.

Good to see some Kittens are Clash fans to.

Ok a few recommendations.

You can NOT go pass Sigur Ros. A stunning Icelandic band. They are simply mindblowing.

Been listeing to some Grant Lee Buffalo-Fuzzy

Becks new album Seachange is great if a bit of a downer.

An Austrailan band called Augie March are beautiful, there last album was called Sunset Studies and there about to release a new one. Look for the track Asleep in Perfection, top stuff.

Wilco's new album is a must have if your into that kinda sound.

Hmmm thats all of the top of my head I can think of lately. Perhaps more soon.

Quoting Zipitydoda: "Industrial and Metal usually make up my playlist."

Couldn't have put it better myself, Jessica!

Have you heard of Ultraviolence (more dark techno than industrial, really - emphasis on dark!) - they rock biscuits!

Just been listening to a bit of "Fear Factory" today, followed by "Godhead" + "Marilyn Manson".

Oh yeah, and Tori Amos.

Industrial and Metal

Postby slowontheuptake » Sat Oct 05, 2002 1:57 pm

Speaking up Killin Joke on the Gladiator CD. I was very dissapointed in it. It is like listening to a streched out version of Holst's ' The Planets'. So I just listen to Holst:smug ...

Sexy bexy I agree with the Industrial love. I will do a search on Ultraviolence. I'm always looking for good industrial. I listen to (well known but kicken) NIN, Attrition, Gravity Kills, wumpscut. For sheer earbleading tecno metal goodness, Prodigy.

Re: Industrial and Metal

Postby sexy bexy » Sat Oct 05, 2002 2:32 pm

Hey Slow!

If you're looking for ultraviolence tracks, try "Hardcore Motherf*cker" + "masochist" if you want some heavy techno/industrial stuff, and "Adultery" + "bombs in my head" if you want some tripped out techno/industrial.

Man, those tracks sound a bit dodgy! They're cool, honest.

Gravity Kills rok biscuits! They're first album is an industrial classic- wot do u think about they're new album, I wasn't as impressed.

Prodigy r another fave of mine, i'm gonna check out those others u mentioned.

Fear Factory's remixes r also fab - try Remanufacture + 21st century jesus

Re: Industrial and Metal

Postby Killin Joke » Sat Oct 05, 2002 5:30 pm

Yeah, Fear Factory woke me up at Axion Beach Rock once... I soley went for K's Choice (our national pride: BTW, just heard Sarah Betten, playin' for the all girls team now, is goin' single !) Anyway, they have this song called "Everyone (I loves ?) dies" I'll say... Sweet Tara...

I bought the Gladiator soundtrack because I kinda liked the movie (it's a flaw: I pretty much like everything that has to do with Ancient Greece, Rome,... Xenite, nuff said) but also coz I luv Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance !) and Hans Zimmer (piece of the sountrack of the film "A world apart" is astonishing) but you might be right: it's stretched a little: most soundtracks are, when almost entirely instrumental.

Rock and Roll

Postby 4WiccanLuv » Sat Oct 05, 2002 5:50 pm

I love diversity in music, but at heart, I consider my self a Rock N Roll kinda gal. My taste includes all types of rock music, from Punk, Metal, Glam, Goth, Alternative to Classic Rock. Beatles to Rage Against the Machine and anything in between. *Look at me, I’m a rhyming fool* ;)

Yep, currently going through a punk thing.

Buzzcocks – Orgasm Addict

Social Distortion – Story of My Life

Distillers – City of Angels

TSOL – Code Blue

Rancid – I Wanna Riot

Misfits – She

Sex Pistols – Pretty Vacant

The Damned – Feel the Pain

Adolescents – Amoeba

Circle Jerks – Wild in the Streets

Pennywise – F**K Authority

I love the explosion of back to basics rock, by bands like the Vines, Hives, yeah yeah yeahs, Queens of the Stone Age and White Stripes.

Plus, I’ve got a fetish for female rock bands or female fronted bands, my favorites include, Bikini Kill, L7, Luna Chicks, Donnas, Chrissie Hynde (early Pretenders). Heart, Hole, Janis Joplin, Joan Jett, Elastica, Distillers, Garbage, Bjork, Luscious Jackson, Runaways, Poe, Babes in Toy Land, Veruca Salt, PJ Harvey, Sonic Youth, Go-Go’s.

I could probably go on forever on this subject….it’s all good!

4WiccanLuv that's so awesome you like Babes in Toyland! Really, I've never known a single fan in RL or online besides me and it's been a real pain finding the cd's in any of the stores here, and there's not any good websites either. I think they're just not given enough credit.....

Oh, that's so awesome! I bet they totally kicked ass live. Unfortunately, I didn't even know about them until a few years ago and they had already stopped recording, touring, etc. But I did hear Kat Bjelland has a new band now. I came across the cd on ebay a few months ago. Though, I can't remember the band's name right now. Ahh..It'll come to me later.

actually, cat power is really one chick, chan marshall, who writes these haunting, eerie, sad, strange songs. there's really nothing else like her. "cross bones style" and "nude as the news" are two of my favorite songs.

/chuckle/, Melissa :) Yeah, those American chicks turned out to be pretty gay too, which was like totally weird to find out, in a pub, normally populated by irritating tourists (other than ourselves, he, he) and drunk ugly old Irish man, later nicknamed "velociraptors".

Anyway, thanks for elaborating. I'm definitely gonna check 'm out (also Babes in Toyland: for the kick-ass name alone). They also mentioned Jonatha Brooke... I'm guessing she's a singer-songwriter too...
