I was looking up results for the first day of the US Open, and the BBC had some photos. This one is Serena's choice of footwear.

A chance to see Gabriela Sabatini, that's great! The last time I swa her was about 10 years ago at a Family circle event , Hilton Head. She is flawless! She had big cheering section in my camp. During the same event, Billie Jean stood behind me in the clubhouse while we were having cocktails, Pam Shriver and Rosie Cassals(who lives on HH) were also there. It was cool.

Anyway, the US open is interesting. Unfortunately I have not been able to watch all the matches, but I have seen some pretty amazing stuff. Like the last game between Lindsay Davenport and Venus Williams. Wow, that was a match all by itself. Capriati has beaten Serena Williams (who got some pretty ridiculously bad calls against her) and Dementieva has beaten Mauresmo. What I did not know is that if Lindsay Davenport does not win the US open Mauresmo will become the new number 1. That would be very cool and she has never even won a grand slam.

I am so sad she lost, amelie that is. I hate to say it but she does choke when the big things are on the line. I love her game though, so beautiful.



Serena call was bad!! I am cheering for Sveta now to win the whole thing!

Those were lousy calls. With the bad line calls, at least the ball was right on the line so there was some reason for the error, but that overrule by the Chair was inexcusable.



Bad calls aside, it was a really good, fierce game. And Serena was all class afterwards. She was really impressive, especially under the circumstances.



And Amelie, Amelie, Amelie.... In some ways she reminds me of Hana Mandilakova (sp?). Hana could be the best player, or the worst player, depending of the day of the week. A fantastic athlete who was maddeningly inconsistant.



I noticed Amelie wears a ring on the ring finger of her left hand. I was wondering if she was still involved with that cutie who looks like kd lang? Anyone up on the tennis gossip?

No, I think she's on her third gf since she's been out on the tour. She's a lot more private about who she is dating now though. I think the woman involved is just a lot more private than the on you are talking about. Or so the gossip goes

Xita, you need to post in this thread again. So Concrete and I saw Xita´s new avatar in action last weekend. No Tina Turner, we got tortured by Robin Gibb instead, but it was worth it to watch these two goddesses of tennis in action. I have not had time to look at the video I shot, but I will try to make a short video clip this weekend. The final final final match between the greatest tennis couple ever. Oh and hell yes I am biased, but I am also right.

Well, damn, some great matches recently. The Serena/Sharapova match was amazing. I said I didn't care, but as I watched the match my dislike for Sharapova grew. I really didn't like all the stroking the commentators were giving her. Oh Sharapova is so great blah blah. I don't like someone who fist pumps when an opponent makes a mistake. I was really cheering for Serena. So happy she got through.

Serena Won! Yay, I am happy for her. I am happy that she's back and now we can even more competitive tennis. I think the one player that won me over this tournament was Alicia Molik, I really like her game.

Unfortunately I did not follow this tournament at all. I just read an article in my newspaper about Serena winning. I had not realized she had not won a grand slam since Wimbledon 2003. It is very nice that she has come back so well after all the bad things that happened to her and her family.

Amelie Mauresmo won the Proximus Diamond Games in Antwerpen today in a thrilling final against Venus Williams. Amelie was behind 1-0 in sets and 5-3 in the second set. She barely held her serve to go 5-4 behind, but then when serving for the match Venus started to make error after error and Mauresmo broke back twice to win the second set 5-7, but then lost her own serve right away in the third set and Venus went in the lead 3-1. She ultimately lost 4-6 thanks to some absolutely wonderful points by Mauresmo. They both played brilliantly, quite an entertaining match.

But (Istill can't believe it) she lost .. She's out.....

She was the favourite for the whole thing. Damned. I really wished you would win!
