Aly's Untitled Pilot

Postby Warduke » Mon Jan 19, 2004 10:11 pm

This is the place to talk about Aly's upcoming show. Once it gets a proper name, we'll change the thread title.

As Incarnadine posted in another thread...

Quote:
Well the pilot has been announced,

Hannigan, 'Friendlys' in NBC camp

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "American Pie" flautist Alyson Hannigan has committed to star in the pilot for NBC's untitled comedy about an estranged brother and sister.

Hannigan had been eyeing the project -- which revolves around the relationship between a brother and his sister who haven't spoken in 18 months -- and had met with its producers when it was still in development. Talks accelerated after the pilot was picked up this month, leading to the pact with Hannigan, who has a talent deal with NBC.

Hannigan next stars as Sally in the London stage version of Rob Reiner's 1989 film "When Harry Met Sally ..."

This is great! Good for Aly. I can't wait to see what she'll do with this, and I hope it's a giant success.

HMM! There is real potential here as a sit-com. It could be laugh out loud funny but also poignant. However, this really does depend on there being good writers on the show who can remain consistent (is that a small barb stab at ME, probably!).

As for mentioning Aly with relation to American Pie as opposed to Buffy, makes sense. Although Buffy is a successful show, more people will recognise Aly from American Pie than will for Buffy. Also they will want to emphasise her comedic roles in reference to a sit-com. For the best, really.

Well there are all those writers from 'Friends' looking for work. They have had me in tears of laughter one minute and just crying the next. Also, Frazier's writers will be looking for work too. Maybe we'll have a meeting of the minds on this show. I sure hope it's a success.

Having Alyson in her sit-com and Lucy Lawless in hers it will be a great time for my tv viewing again :)

This is good news but it's only a pilot. It may never see the light of day, much less be scheduled as a series. Got my fingers crossed but ain't countin' no chickens yet.

It had better see the light of day. I mean, come on, it's Aly! She's got a lot of appeal and some serious comedic talent. The show will be a hit and everybody knows it.

...or, they should.

Willow: Hey Buff. One more thing. Buffy: Yeah? Willow: I’m gay. Buffy: Okay, Will. Xander owes me ten bucks.

Actually, I remember going to a location shoot in Griffith Park once and running into a bunch of kids there waiting for a chance to see "the Band Camp Girl." And this was when they were filming "Bargaining" at the start of Season 6.

Incidentally, at the same shoot there were also a few little girls with copies the Willow/Tara comic, which Amber was nice enough to sign even after the security people tried to shoo everyone away. :)

Is that the title of the show? Sounds like it should be on HGTV,TLC, or some such channel like that. They can show it after Trading Spaces and before While You Were Out. :lol Horrible title aside, I hope the show does great and I can't wait to see it.

I don't trust TV tome, but yeah that title reminds me of Home Improvement anyway, if it is a title it must be a working title.

Schwimmer directing the pilot

Schwimmer Looks Past Friends

Star of the popular NBC series signs on for post-Friends acting and directing duties.

By Claire Runitz

With the taping of the final episode of Friends in the can, cast member David Schwimmer is looking into the future. The actor-director has made a deal to topline a feature, Duane Hopwood, and direct a pilot, Home and Hardware, set up at NBC.

Hopwood, to be directed by Matt Mulhern, will star Schwimmer as an alcoholic who works at a casino and is trying to get his life back in order. Janeane Garofalo and Judah Friedlander co-star in the film, which is being produced by Lemore Syvan and backed by Blue Magic Pictures & Elevation. Shooting is slated to begin in Atlantic City sometime in early February.

Home and Hardward, from producer Jamie Tarses and NBC Studios, stars Alyson Hannigan. Matt Tarses penned the pilot. Schwimmer has television directing credits under his belt having worked behind-the-camera on several episodes of Friends.

Schwimmer, repped by Gersh, has big screen credits including The Pallbearer, Six Days Seven Nights and Hotel. In addition, he has been seen on the small screen in the Emmy-winning mini Band of Brothers and NBC's Uprising.

I'm a HUGE Friends fan. I mean, other than Willow and Tara my other obsession is Friends. I don't know why I love it so much because the later seasons haven't been as great as the earlier ones and most of my friends hate the show, but I fell in love with the characters. The same way I did with Willow and Tara. :heart

So...this is pretty pleasant news. I don't even care about the crappy title anymore, Home and Hardware...fine! :p

David Schwimmer AND Alyson Hannigan, what can be better? ;) Hopefully, this show will do well because it's hard for shows to stick and grow an audience. And if the ratings aren't high at the first couple of episodes and there seems to be no hope as the episodes progresses, it'll probably be cancelled. Look what happened to 'Coupling', that show disappeared out of the horizon, but that it was crappy so I wasn't surprised. :lol

Here's to hoping that Alyson's new show does well...it'll give me a reason to watch something other than A&E, The Discovery Channel, and TLC...it's pretty much the only channels I've been watching lately as I try to avoid those crazy reality shows. I was totally engrossed with Six Feet Under until my HBO was cut off! Anyway, thanks for the post and link, sorry for the rambling.

Alyson Hannigan ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") is inaccurate. It should be Alyson Hannigan ("American Pie 1-3"). With Schwimmer attached, the show should get some attention this season. Maybe it will become part of NBC's new must see TV lien up. I know that I must see it.

True.

More people saw her as Michelle in AP1-3's opening weekends than saw her as Willow in 7 years.

Of course NBC could loose every single viewer "Buffy" ever had and barely even notice.

Well, they would notice, but it wouldn't be as bad.

I am not a schwimmer fan. As long as he isn't in front of the screen, I guess I can deal. I am not sure how much experience he has directing, I'd rather have her work with more experienced people.

I'm fully in the 'not a Schwimmer fan' category and will be majorly pissed off if the show has too much of his stamp on it. Aly has more talent in her little finger than he does in his entire body.

I'm really looking forward to this...only it will be just my luck that they might not even show it in NZ. I'll have to start a campaign or something to make one of the channels here pick it up.

David Schwimmer ain't that bad people, he directed a play called Race: How Blacks and Whites Think and Feel About the American Obsession recently that got some pretty good reviews. I don't know much about it but it can't be that bad, granted he's not a much of great actor...I can admit that... but he's trying something different and I'm supporting him. As a Friends fan, I feel like I have to defend this guy.

*Sigh* If you love Ross, you'll understand.

Quote:
The play “Race” has been getting rave reviews since it opened this month in Chicago. It runs though August 10. And Schwimmer is not limiting his new projects to the stage. Soon, you may see more of his ideas on the TV screen, too. He’s just signed a deal to develop some future programs for NBC.

We all know what NBC show they're talking about. Give the guy a chance, he's directing the pilot, not every single episode. Who knows? You might end up loving him like me. :)

While also not a "Schwimmer fan", I do not concede that he is a "bad actor".

If anyone caught his performance as the dislikeable Lt. Sobel in "Band of Brothers" it would be apparent that he clearly has "chops". He was also quite good in the mini-series about the Warsaw Ghetto uprising which aired about two years ago (I forget the title, but it also had Hank Azaria and Leelee Sobieski in the cast:) ).

Truth be told, I only know him for Friends and a few other disaster movies that the cast of the show seem to find themselves in. I'm not saying he's a bad actor, I just don't think he's a great actor. But what is great, anyway? :)

I'll definitely try to catch those shows and movies later, I scanned through Band of Brothers awhile ago when I still had HBO but I never really watched it.

Anyway, I hope this show of Aly's is a success. :flower

Dumb' Co-Star in Sibling Series with Hannigan

Sun Feb 1, 9:19 PM ET

By Nellie Andreeva

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Eric Christian Olsen, who co-starred in last year's comedy prequel "Dumb and Dumberer," has been tapped as the male lead opposite "American Pie" alumna Alyson Hannigan (news) in NBC's untitled sibling comedy.

The project revolves around the relationship between a brother and sister who haven't spoken in 18 months. In addition to playing Lloyd Christmas in "Dumb," Olsen also starred in "The Hot Chick" and the upcoming "Cellular."

Meanwhile, David Alan Basche has been cast as Wilbur Post in Fox's remake of the 1960s comedy "Mister Ed"; Jonathan Cake (news) as the lead in ABC's limited Roman Empire series "Empire"; and Nathan Fillion (news) in Fox's drama pilot "Hollywood Division."

"Mister Ed" is an updated take on the classic sitcom about Wilbur Post, played in the original by Alan Young, and his talking horse in which the equine title character has an urban sensibility. Basche's credits include the sitcoms "Three Sisters" and "Oh Grow Up" and Steven Soderbergh (news)'s feature "Full Frontal."

"Empire" is an eight-episode series that revolves around Julius Caesar's exiled 17-year-old great-nephew Gaius Octavius (Santiago Cabrera) and Teranus (Cake), the disgraced gladiator who is sworn to protect him. Gaius Octavius went on to become the first emperor of Rome in 27 B.C. Cake starred on Fox's short-lived drama "The American Embassy."

In "Hollywood Division," about undercover cops at a Hollywood high school, Fillion will play a police detective; he replaces Matthew Settle (news) who was originally cast in the role.

Fillion, best known for his role on the ABC comedy "Two Guys and a Girl," previously starred in Fox's short-lived drama "Firefly."
