LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Eric Christian Olsen, who co-starred in last year's comedy prequel "Dumb and Dumberer," has been tapped as the male lead opposite "American Pie" alumna Alyson Hannigan (news) in NBC's untitled sibling comedy.
       
The project revolves around the relationship between a brother and sister who haven't spoken in 18 months. In addition to playing Lloyd Christmas in "Dumb," Olsen also starred in "The Hot Chick" and the upcoming "Cellular."
Meanwhile, David Alan Basche has been cast as Wilbur Post in Fox's remake of the 1960s comedy "Mister Ed"; Jonathan Cake (news) as the lead in ABC's limited Roman Empire series "Empire"; and Nathan Fillion (news) in Fox's drama pilot "Hollywood Division."
"Mister Ed" is an updated take on the classic sitcom about Wilbur Post, played in the original by Alan Young, and his talking horse in which the equine title character has an urban sensibility. Basche's credits include the sitcoms "Three Sisters" and "Oh Grow Up" and Steven Soderbergh (news)'s feature "Full Frontal."
"Empire" is an eight-episode series that revolves around Julius Caesar's exiled 17-year-old great-nephew Gaius Octavius (Santiago Cabrera) and Teranus (Cake), the disgraced gladiator who is sworn to protect him. Gaius Octavius went on to become the first emperor of Rome in 27 B.C. Cake starred on Fox's short-lived drama "The American Embassy."
In "Hollywood Division," about undercover cops at a Hollywood high school, Fillion will play a police detective; he replaces Matthew Settle (news) who was originally cast in the role.
Fillion, best known for his role on the ABC comedy "Two Guys and a Girl," previously starred in Fox's short-lived drama "Firefly."
