Aly to guest star in That '70s Show

From BBC Cult:

That '70s Willow

01 October 2003

Alyson Hannigan has been signed to appear in a guest role on hit American sitcom That '70s Show.

The former Willow Rosenberg will, according to Variety, appear in at least two episodes of the hit comedy on the Fox network.

Familiar to us from her seven years in Sunnydale, Hannigan probably has a stronger Hollywood profile than any of her former Buffy co-stars, thanks to the $100-million-plus box-office of the third American Pie movie, American Wedding.

That '70s Show, based around the lives of Midwestern teenagers growing up in - surprisingly enough - the 1970s, began in 1998 and starts its sixth season on Fox on October 29th. Insomniac British viewers can currently catch some first season episodes in the pre-dawn hours on Sundays, on channel Five.

Move over, Demi Moore: Alyson Hannigan is cozying up to your man - sort of. The "American Wedding" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star has signed on to appear in at least two episodes of Fox's comedy hit "That '70s Show."...

I don't have a subscription to Variety and therefore couldn't re-post the full article but shuyaku has now kindly done so, a few posts after mine.

Oh cool, thank you Kajo. :) They air that show in the Netherlands as well. I don't watch it usually, but I will be sure to watch these episodes when they air. :grin

It could be like a rehearshal for the real thing: her own sitcom. Ah, I can dream can't I. :p

"Hannigan probably has a stronger Hollywood profile than any of her former Buffy co-stars"

That's some kind of statement no? Sounds like Aly is playing her cards right and getting her feet wet in the sitcom genre in sure preparation of her own sitcom. The brilliant thing is I think Aly is perfectly suited for comedy. And 2 eps? wooo hooo! New Aly on TV and I am going to be so happy, I've missed her so, it's been a while for me!

Oh man, this is sooo weird. Just the other night I was thinking about what shows Aly could guess star on and the first one I thought about was That '70s Show! (I don't know why :lol )

This is great, Aly is showing what king of star she is now that she's finally gotten away from :joss

The "American Wedding" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star has signed on to appear in at least two episodes of Fox's comedy hit "That 70's Show." Hannigan will play a new recruit in the police academy where Kelso - played by Moore's main squeeze, Ashton Kutcher - is also enrolled.

Role reps Hannigan's first major TV commitment since "Buffy" wrapped its run last spring. Thesp, repped by Innovative and Lovett Management, has appeared in all three of the "American Pie" pics, along with features such as "Boys and Girls" and "Dead Man on Campus."

Thank you, thank you, thank you, kajo!!! :clap :party :bounce

I've only seem bits of That 70's Show, think it's kinda funny, but if Aly is going to be on it, it'll definitely be on my "must tape" list.

I think something really big will happen for Aly as a result (or is it just wishful thinking on my part??)

It's funny, but it never entered my mind that Aly would do something like that..silly me. What a great opportunity.

Does Aly have the same management as AB,SMG and EC??

To think I almost overlooked this thread.

This is so fantastic!!! I can't wait to see her. "[AH] has signed on to appear in at least two episodes" I hope it's more than two. I would be fab if she was a recurring character. Aly wants to have her own sitcom so this is great exposure for her. Kajo thanks for the great news! :bounce :bounce

shuyaku: Thanks so much for posting the Variety article in full. :)

yourandom: This is just the announcement confirming that Aly has signed on to do the show. I don't think anything will have been filmed yet so it should be a few weeks at least before Aly's episodes are broadcast. Once Fox starts publicising the dates on which her episodes are due to be screened, I'm sure someone will post them either in this thread or in the Alyson on TV thread. So don't worry, if you regularly check those two threads, you should know well in advance. :)

That's a very appropriate place for Aly to turn up! Seth Green did a couple of eps of that show already. It's all in the Fox family! I just hope they don't put a dumb wig on her or something like they did with Seth. I am hopelessly enamored of those long strawberry tresses Aly's been sporting lately!

Oh, this is awesome. New Aly goodness! I'm really happy for her and I hope this will lead to something bigger and/or better.

I've never seen the show (I did watch the pretty damn unfunny That 80s Show, though) but I'll sure watch it for Aly.

Thanks kajo and shuyaku for bringing the news.

First of all, WOW!

I never thought there were that many That '70s Show fans on the Kitten. I myself love the show! One of my faves, and I do own my own That '70s Show fansite which is down and is being updated right now. :grin

Maudmac, That '70s Show is way funnier than That '80s Show! The actors are great, and the writing hilarious. If you watch it, you won't be dissapointed, unless it's, you know, one of those so-so episodes (that can happen to all shows).

Now, when I saw this I was jumping around in glee. Aly in that show is gonna be great, I can tell!

And, if any news appears on that, I'll be happy to post it, and also, when the episode airs, I'll get some screencaps for your viewing pleasure.

Oh! Just one thing, would you guys want spoilers on Aly's role? Cause I can get some a few days after the episodes are taped. Up to you. :grin

I was watching Entertainment Tonight and they mentioned that Aly was going to be on That '70's Show. And the best part, when they said her name, they didn't mention her last TV job, like they usually do.

So no mention of that show :grin

Hello Kittens-

It's probably easier for Aly, who wasn't Buffy, to get away from the taint of ME. Poor SMG is going to be stuck with Buffy the Vampire Boffer for a darn long time. I'm hoping Aly's guesting on That 70's Show makes suits looking for new faces to lead comedies go "sign her up!"

Yup.

And I am thinking someone just got a little too expensive for some other show, especially considering the massive budget cuts that same other show now faces.

Besides the only TV Aly has been talking about is a sitcom, so this might be her nice springboard to that.

Go Aly. Run and never look back.

Quote:
Hannigan Invades the '70s

Buffy co-star Alyson Hannigan signs up to guest on Fox's That '70s Show

Thursday, October 2, 2003

By Liz Jeffries

Fan favorite Alyson Hannigan, who played the magical Willow on the popular series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has entered a time warp. The actress has signed on to guest star in at least two episodes of Fox's That '70s Show during the upcoming season.

On the show, Kelso, played by Ashton Kutcher, recently enrolled in the police academy. Hannigan will play a new recruit at the academy and possibly cozy up to the lovable but dimwitted Kelso.

Hannigan, repped by Innovative, most recently appeared in Universal's third installment of the American Pie franchise, American Wedding. In addition to being seen in the first two Pie movies, Hannigan has also been seen in the features My Stepmother Is an Alien, Boys and Girls and Dead Man on Campus.

The '70s deal marks Hannigan's first major television commitment since Buffy left the air last spring. Her role on the series won her a Teen Choice Award, as well as TV Guide Award and Golden Satellite Award nominations.

As someone who was born in the 50's and grew up in the 60's and 70's, I find That 70's Show boring, inaccurate, and extremely unfunny (duh, it's a network tv show). Thankfully, I can do vidcaps without having to watch or listen to the show.

NickDDP, it's weird, because I know a lot of fans of the show who were teens back then, and they say that it's pretty much true to life. Dunno, I guess maybe it's something that's related to where u grew up. But how should I know, I am after all a child of the 80s and 90s. :grin

Yeah, I must admit, I've never watched it, I can't say if it is good or not. It's never called my attention. I am happy for Aly because she's working towards what she wants, her own sitcom. That's how I am going to take it.

The next taping is on October 10th. I'll have some news about the taping a day after or so. I think I may have something concerning an air date, but maybe it's spoilerish, so here goes.

Well, it seems that Shannon Elizabeth is also guest-starring this year. She has already taped 3 episodes and she plays Brooke.

Anyways, since Shannon is already on for now, I think that Aly's episodes are gonna be aired during February sweeps or so. Maybe episodes 14 and 15. Not sure, this is just a speculation.

And, since she is in the Police Academy, I'm pretty sure we'll see her at least once in a Police Uniform. Or you know, maybe in workout clothes... :drool Dunno if it's spoilery, but better be safe.

And that's all I know for now, which is pretty much nothing. :grin But hey, the fans of the show are all loving the idea of Aly on, they totally love her... who doesn't? :lol
