W/T comic -WannaBlessedBe

Anything about Willow & Tara, Alyson Hannigan and Amber Benson.

Re: New Willow and Tara Comic: Wilderness

Postby superZONic » Wed Jul 10, 2002 11:03 pm

I got one today as well. Yay.

I actually like the artwork more than the first W/Tcomic. Neither capture the actress' likeness very much, but i think the drawings, lettering, and inking in Wilderness are much more dynamic...very interesting to me. I like the perspectives and the motion. The fairies were very coolly rendered and even the scene boxes are interesting in the way that they're layered. WannaBlessedBe was more story intensive, perhaps.

The violence is as disturbing as WBB. The girls are more sexually suggestive tho, in this one.

It's a tad slow to go and on a few occcassions the story progression between frames is awkward, but generally, i really look forward to the next part and resolution of the cliff hanger.

I think the fairy cover is actually more appealing than the foto cover but if you're gonna resell, the foto covers generally get more on ebay or whatever.

All in all, pretty cool.

Thanks for the scans, Xita! The coloring is kinda cool - almost a watercolor look which is unusual for a comic book. And I had to laugh at Willow not wanting any Tara cravings to go unsatisfied. hehe

Like the cover for the next one. Maybe we'll get a kiss in the second part.

Thanks again! :)

Thanks Xita, those are some great scans and that makes me want to buy the comic even more so than before, if that was even possible. I like the style of drawing. I also love the innuendo, it's clever and amusing, and it is clear enough to not be considered just subtext, they are very much the loving couple judging from these few scans. All in all it is looking better than I already expected it to be, but I just wanted say that these glued on Taranails are rather scary. I hope she'll remember to take them off before they start their naked ritual.

I was thinking the exact same thing, Garfield. For a second there, I thought we had a VampTara or something :lol

Thought I'd add that I, too, like this style of drawing. I especially like Willow. Her character comes out in the way she's been drawn.

I got mine coming in the mail (right Garner? Garner...).

But one thing I noticed was no "talk" section writen by Amber like we got in the last one.

I would have really liked to read something she had said about it.

Oh, anyone in the Chicago-land area. Comix Revolution still has copies.

Xita has been tinkering with the Nether Realms and other stuff, I am sure they'll be back soon :) , but for those who have not seen them, just hurry and try and get your hands on the comic itself, that is what I will try to do, or rather, make other people do for me, heh. :grin

Finally got a chance to read the whole comic, and I thought it was cute, with also being a very good story about the environment. For me the artwork was nice, and I thought out of all of them Dawn looked the most like her. As I said before there is a lot of innuendo, which works very well in the context of the story, as well as a sense of family between the three (Willow, Tara, and Dawn). Can't wait for part 2, and hopefully we might get a kiss in that one.

Tara and Willow pictures

Postby Mandal the Vandal » Fri Jul 12, 2002 3:45 am

I know it is only vagualy linked to the new comic, which I have yet to get hold of, living in UK very limited options.

Anyway on the comment of pictures full stop. Willow and Tara are a couple, yet there are very few if any pictures available of them as a couple they are usual superimposed indvidual pictures.

The only official couple one that I know of is for blessedwannaabe.

Anyone know of anymore? or noticed that fact?

Re: Tara and Willow pictures

Postby urnofosiris » Fri Jul 12, 2002 4:08 am

The WannaBlessedBe cover was not a couple picture either, that too was a composite pic. The only picture I can recall that you can consider a couple pic is this one (J_UK capped this from the S4 DVD), it was shot during NMR, but is not from a scene, I don't recall it ever having been used by the show or WB/UPN itself as an official couple pic, but it has been used by magazines etc.

Even the WT t-shirt is a composite. I don't know why in the world they could not have taken one shot of them in each other's arms, rather than using a composite in which they have their backs to each other. I can't even say I am acting spoiled anymore. Still love the shirt though, it's still Willow and Tara, what's not to love.

Just read the first part, and I enjoyed it a lot. Yes, Tara and Willow are all couply and the innuendo works very well in context. I have to agree, Dawn's is the closest likeness. The dialogue is spot on for each character - can't tell whether this is due to Amber or Golden. Actually, their collaboration is seemless; you can't detect any major differences in the tone of the book that would point to a particular author. The progressions from scene to scene and the emphasis in each panel seem better than WBB. Looking forwards to the sequel.

First Comic

Postby wizpup » Fri Jul 12, 2002 8:58 am

Well - I got hold of part 1 yesterday - my first ever comic!

I liked it - there was a generous amount of Willow-tummy on display, and the cover for part 2 has both Willow-tummy, AND Willow-cleavage - no mean feat *G*

I read before that Michelle Trachtenberg was initially unhappy with the artwork for Dawn, but I have to agree that she is the closest likeness in the end result. Witness, for example, the extreme shininess of her hair in the fence sitter panel (see Xita's links above).

How could she complain about that ?

Thank you soo much xita!

I'm not sure if my comic dealer here is even gonna get that for me. Sigh...

But it's good to get a preview of the comic... Willow and Dawn looks cool... but Tara looks..... funny...not funny haha but funny weird.

That's my little feedback. :) Though I'd like to see lotsa pretty curves on a lady rather than hard lines.

Must check into my local store.

As to Web Warlocks comment about the lack of 'Talk' section, it may be in the final issue or perhaps not there at all, which isn't uncommon in comics to be honest, it really depends on ad space and pages. Just the way of the biz.

So I was showing Wilderness to some of my friends..."Oh, it's a Buffy comic" as they rolled their eyes. I was like, no, it's not a Buffy comic. Why not? I showed them it was written by Amber Benson. That means nothing to us; who did she play? Tara. Their response: OH, the lesbian witch.

The first thing out of their memories about Tara was that she was a lesbian. Not that she was an individual, that she was a lesbian.

Wilderness Pt. 1

Postby Garner » Fri Jul 12, 2002 12:13 pm

I have to say that I didn't like the art that much. I did think the coloring was better, but the characters look a bit too pouty and petulant for my taste. They did get the eye color right which WBB didn't, but I like the moodiness that WBB generated. I also thought the characters looked a bit more realistic and not so charicatured.

The story in this one is good, it feels a bit rushed to me at points while WBB felt tighter and better paced. Still, there is one more coming. I did like the inclusion of Dawn overall and as with the previous the dialog is good. I think there was more violence in the WBB than this one so far, but we still get another issue.

WW, your comics are in the mail.

I hesitate to blab this, but I am an assistant manager at a comic book store and if any kittens can't get a copy you could email me and see if I can send you one (or one of each cover.) We have some extra at the store as I made sure we ordered deep, but they will go fast, the last one did. Garner502@yahoo.com First come first serve and I think I spend about $2 on shipping.

Hmm, that is why I didn't preorder tx, the last time the same thing happened to me. I now go to the comic book store and order extras from tvmerch. When I went to the comic bookstore Wednesday, I grabbed their last art cover.
