Forsooth and Verily,'tis Thursday Miss Kitty Fantastico 8/29

Postby BBOvenGuy » Wed Aug 28, 2002 6:20 pm

Okay, 'tis not quite Thursday yet here in California, but it is on the east coast, so I'm getting the Thursday thread started. :shy

I've started the first draft of my next book (#4), which is about some teenagers who work at a Renaissance Faire. That means I've been looking up stuff about RenFaires and all the things people do there, including the "RenFaire speak" that all the performers are taught. At the moment, I'm still having trouble telling my forsooths from my gramercys, but I'll get the hang of it as the book develops. I'm hoping to have the book ready for test reading in November.

And in case anyone's wondering about my cat Eugenie, she's still holding her own here at home. The prognosis, however, is not good. I got the latest test results from my vet today - the two key kidney enzyme values were almost triple what they should be, and a weekend's worth of hydration at the animal hospital barely made a dent in them. Nevertheless, she's comfortable now and is eating again, so maybe we can stave off the inevitable for a little while. I'm taking it day by day.

Back to RenFaires - what do you think Willow and Tara would do at one? We already know Tara has the right outfit to go. :) Elizabethan times were full of talk about sprites and fairies and witchcraft - do you think Willow would go around trying to correct all the misconceptions the RenFaire people had? It could be interesting.

Have a good day, everybody! :bounce

First off, my best thoughts for you and your cat. I know how tough that can be. How old is she?

As for the Ren Faire, I've only been a couple of times myself, but absolutely loved it. I can totally see Tara getting into the spirit of it. Willow too, in an overly-enthusiastic way :)

And yeah, I'd say we know they both have the right outfits for it.

Well I go to Ren Faires all the time. I can say with near certainity that if Willow went with the idea of converting the witch stereotype she would come up against a legion of a drunks wearing tights that have seen "the Holy Gail" about 100 times to much.

"She's a witch! She turned me into a newt"
"A newt?"
"I got better."

Speaking of which I picked up a set of the Wicca Tarot at the Bristol Ren Fair in WIS. And my stone devil horns.

Have a good Thurs!

Thanks Tracy. :) I'm not sure exactly how old Eugenie is. She was fully grown when my ex-wife and I found her at the shelter, so all we have is the shelter's best guess of how old she was then. Based on that, I think she's in the neighborhood of 15. I've had her over ten-and-a-half years now, which is longer than I've had any other pet in my life - except for the other cat I have now, who I've had since she was a kitten 14 years ago. (The other cat is still in very good health, luckily, except for some bad teeth.)

Bob,

I've had a lot of pets from the Humane Society so I know how hard it is to peg an age. I also know how hard it is when everything seems to fail at once on an animal. Hang in there and know you gave it your all. And whe it is time for her to go as terrible and sad as it always is you know she will be remembered fondly and that you were the best "dad" a cat could wish for. It is always hard when one of our beloved pets nears the end. I wish you strength in this time my friend.

Hi Bob,
I'm sending all 3 of you a big huge kpmuse hug and our wishes for tomorrow. We said prayers for you again today. As Autumn said, you are a great Dad :) and it's great that Eugenie ate today.

I've always wanted to go to a Renaissance Faire! I don't know much about them, but I find them quite intriguing. Willow and Tara would definitely get into it. I have no idea why, but it just feels right with the magic, the dresses, the fairies. You know, anything to get Tara back into the OMWF boob dress is splendid in my book :drool

Peace to all Kittens everywhere :peace

Bob,
I'm very sorry to hear about your cat. My one is in the same situation. Her kidneys are in mid failure and what makes it even harder is the fact that I am a Vet Tech. I take her to work with me once a week now to run her blood and give her fluids IV and take xrays so we can monitor how big her kidneys are. At home, I rehydrate her every day. I have her on the prescription diet for kidney failure. She hates it!! This is a cat who was at one time 20 pounds and now she is down to 13 pounds. I know I have to make a decision soon but it is going to be the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I've been in this field for 15 years now and I still get emotional when clients have to put their animals to sleep.
I wish you and Eugenie all the best and will keep you both in my thoughts. Tell her that "Nuisance" sends her best too.

Love to All,
Barb

Never been to one quite like that. Any historical revival thingies here usually involve dressing up as a warrior going around with a big mad sword and getting quite drunk. Which can be fun. [img:26906a2876]http://homepage.eircom.net/~mollyig/winkgreen.gif[/img:26906a2876]

I definitely see Willow going around complaining about people getting words or costumes wrong, and Tara will just smile kindly and try and placate her.

I don't like cats. It's a well known fact that I don't like cats. However, I met someone who had a cat. She still does, actually. And I adore the creature. Seems sometimes, that she likes me a bit too. Heh. So you know, on the whole "hating cats" thing I had to eat my words. And uh, a lot of hairballs. That's the thing about having large comfortable breasts...everyone wants a piece. And when Vida wants to lie down and get petted, you can't refuse her. She's a biter. ;)

Anyway, my point is that Vida is from a refuge. So neither Deb nor I know how old she is. We could put a guess on it, but it's always been a source of sorrow for Deb that she doesn't know exactly how old Vida is, or when her birthday is. Oh, and Vida was taken away from her mother at such an early age that she can't purr. This cat does not know how to purr. You can feel it in her throat but there's no noise...it's terribly upsetting but she is very vocal in other ways so I suppose that makes up for it.

However, moving on...god, I'm sorry. I do love the cat and I think she's one of the main reasons why Deb and I have so much fun. There's something about an animal's company that's very soothing.

Just wanted to share that. And give you my best wishes Bob. Sending much love to Eugenie. :)

Can't say much about the Ren Fayre because you know, I'm English and we [b:0528525e0a] all[/b:0528525e0a] talk like that here y'know. ;)

I was wondering if anyone had the address for the new 'Official' Amber site.

I just tried to go to the old one and it's gone and I remember seeing that a new one was up and I thought I had saved the link but I can't find it anywhere. Can someone please point me in the right direction.

Thanks
Mo

(If you'd like to send it onto me incase I lose track of this thread that would be even better, ta)

I like going to the Ren Faire here in Colorado. Me, my stepdaughter and my husband all get dressed up and have fun talking in pseudo-Old-English. I love watching the jousting competition, and just wandering around is fun. I could totally see Tara and Willow getting into it.

I love cats. I had two growing up. The first one, Smokey, died within three days of our getting her of distemper, and I thought I would never get over it. But them one day my mother came home with a cat that she had found at the A&P supermarket, where someone was giving him away. He was an adorable tabby that we named Pepper. He was a holy terror in the neighborhood, hunting birds with abandon and causing my mother to have to come up with devious ways of preventing him from getting into the birdhouse. One day, the local small annoying dog saw him as he was wandering and chased him into our yard. Pepper climbed a tree, walked out on a branch, and looked at the dog as if to say "Right, I've had enough" and jumped down on top of the dog and chased him away!!! It was quite the story in our neighborhood. Pepper used to love to sleep with his head crooked into my neck, and it always made me feel secure. He lived for almost 20 years.

When I came to Denver, I got my own cat, a black one I named Goddess. She was somewhat skittish, I think from having been in the shelter till she was a year old. Both my husband and daughter are terribly allergic, and so when we moved in together I tried to get her to be an outdoor cat, but she ran off. I still get sad and cry about that from time to time. I hope, someday when we move to the mountains and have more land, to get another cat and make her a barn cat.

Bleh. I've had really bad problems with lack of sleep this week, so I am basically a zombie right now.
I have some good news: bidding got really fierce on a couple of items in the Kitten auction, so they went for much higher prices than I thought they would. If payment comes through okay, I should be able to contribute approx. 30 to the charity drive from the auction proceeds, which is much more than I was hoping. :)
Anyway, Ren Faires .. hmm. Being in the UK, I've never been to one. I have visited Stratford-upon-Avon quite a few times, though, which I imagine is the nearest British equivalent. ;) I can imagine Willow and Tara wandering around Stratford in winter - they'd certainly be used to all the spooky atmospheric mist you get by the river.
Have a good day, kitties!

Sorry about your cat Bob, i know what it is. I got my first cat when i was 5, and since then, i've never lived without one in my house. The first died when i was 8, and that was really painful, then the second when i was 17, that is 5 years ago. Now, i still have two cats, and the oldest is around 15, and we suspect she also has a problem to her kidneys... God, i don't know what i'd do if she died... i got her when i was 7 and grew up with her. She's always been around and not having her anymore would be a huge hole in my life. So i prefer not to think about it...

As for the Ren Faire, i have no clue what it is... I don't think there are any here, though i might simply not know about it... which wouldn't be surprising;) I'm always the last to know...
So, can anyone tell me what exactly a Ren Faire is. I have an idea what it should be like, but it would be great if someone could explain more or less what it is exactly;)

Chino6069, it does appear that celbrityblvd.com has gone down the drain altogether, or maybe they're just having some temporary difficulties. I'm no web guru, nor particularly in the know so I really couldn't say. It's not just Amber's site over there that's down though, just so as you know.

Hope it comes back so I can go back to wistfully checking the site once a month to see if Amber has remembered that it exists and updated it. Hee.

Bob, best wishes for you and your cat. I remember when our cat had to be put down - very stressful, yet ultimately for the best. His whole life Kiko was a clumsy big thing, always falling off the furniture :)

As for ren faires, I play dress-up in medieval garb and armour in the SCA (as the 12th century Sergeant Daniel Ortiz, of the Order of Santiago) but that's a different kind of thing.

Hi, Kitties. :) Wow. With work and lack of internet, I haven't been able to do more than fly by for a moment or two here and there. But I get my new computer tommorrow and they should have the DSL node I am on fixed then. Yeah!

Bob - my thoughts are with you and I hope that Eugenie starts to feel better!

Tyche - Good for you on the auction! I hope that you are able to get some sleep soon....

And on a final note, this snippet from tv guide (not my words, don't shoot me!):

THERE IS A GOD: We can now forgive Joss Whedon for last season's subpar Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Whedon has made good on his pledge to bring back Eliza Dushku as Buffy's chief rival, Faith. Dushku will return for the final five episodes of Buffy this season and three episodes of spinoff Angel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bob: Sorry about your cat. I have a couple cats, and they both hate me. The second one I got a year and a half ago, when she was a poor starving little kitten my neighbor found in a box behind a store. She bit me on the neck the first time I held her. It was all downhill from then between us.

We date the daily threads now? What if they get upset when they find out how many other Daily Threads we're dating?

By the way, as this is the daily thread, does anyone know a program I can use to combine video files together? I had RealProducer, but I got rid of it and haven't been able to download it since. :(

Oh Bob! I hope your kitty is better soon! And if worse comes to worse...well, the most important thing is your kitty has felt your love for all these years.

I know. One of mine died just months after I moved to LA. He was old, and in pain, but he left in my arms, feeling me pet him and hearing my voice. Not a bad way for anyone to go, really. Or so I like to think.

But lets hope that doesn't have to happen with yours for years and years yet! Crossing all fingers for that!

Alas, it's not looking like it'll be "years and years." More like weeks, and that's if I'm lucky. But I've had a long time to prepare myself already. Sometimes I think my other cat could reach 20, though, if her teeth hold out.

Just in case anyone's interested, [i:e66c7ce9d2] Firefly[/i:e66c7ce9d2] will be on location tomorrow afternoon and evening up on one of the Santa Clarita ranches where [i:e66c7ce9d2] Buffy[/i:e66c7ce9d2] has gone many times. Meanwhile, [i:e66c7ce9d2] Birds of Prey[/i:e66c7ce9d2] will be on location a week from tomorrow night. That might be interesting, if I can figure out where the location is...

Just got back from the game in which our second string creamed Seattle's second string. And the game's highlight. Our no name, throw down kicker who has zero chance of beating out Jason Elam for the position kicked a 65 yard field goal. 65 yards. The NFL record, which is actually held by Elam is 63 yards. And this one did not count because it was pre-season. Oh well, Ola found himself a job with some NFL team tonight I am sure.

It was a beautiful thing indeed...the defense, the offense, special teams...and that freakin' amazing 65-yard field goal. And that Frank Walls guy? And Ashley Lelie? And all the running backs? Holy Cow and Yikes all around! Sure don't envy Shanahan having to decide who gets to stay and who has to go. Cuz those second and even third teamers sure put on a show tonight. Next up: Week 1 and the Rams. And let me just add: GO BRONCOS!!

Looked for you Autumn...but this was a Seattle feed, so they were kind of jonesin' on close-ups of Holmgren. Oh well...And by the way, did you decide on that Melissa Etheridge concert tomorrow night? And are you going to the CU-CSU on Saturday? Sometimes I really, really wish I was back in Colorado...[i:3de0952d24]*sigh*[/i:3de0952d24]

It was a great game though. Lelie's TD catch was something else. And yeah Walls was great and Herndon was all over the ball as well. It will be sad to see some of these guys cut because they played their hearts out.

BBOven guy and oneyedchicklet I'm very sorry to hear about your cats, Eugenie and Nuisance. I've been very worried about my own cat, Boris who was due in for a biopsy and some dental work today, especially as the vet said as an elderly cat he might not survive the anaesthetic. I don't know how old he is since he was a stray who adopted me and it's been hard deciding whether to go ahead with the operation. I have a little time to reconsider because the blood test showed he has an overactive thyroid condition and the vet wants to give him medication for a few weeks to build up his strength first. I know I'm in a state just dealing with the possibility of Boris having a serious illness, it must be so much worse when your cats are so poorly and the prognosis is not good. I'm thinking of you and your cats and wishing you well.
