Confirmed Guest:

*Actor: Amber Benson - Tara - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

As Tara, girlfriend to Willow on UPN's recently acquired supernatural phenomenon "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", Amber
Benson has amassed a cult following. In addition to acting the role, she is also co-writing it via a Dark Horse comic book based on the two characters.

Not one to be pigeon-holed in a cult status, Benson has also developed an extensive and eclectic feature film resume. During her summer hiatus, she was on-location in Romania with co-star Nick Stahl filming the thriller "Taboo". She also commendably wrote, financed, directed and starred in the film "Chance".

Additional feature credits include "The Prime Gig" with Vince Vaughan and Ed Harris, which recently premiered at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival, "Don's Plum" alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, "Imaginary Crimes" with Harvey Keitel, "Bye, Bye, Love", "S.W.F." with Reese Witherspoon, "The Crush" and her feature debut, Steven Soderbergh's acclaimed
"King of the Hill".

Raised in Alabama, Amber and her family relocated to Los Angeles when she was 14.

Waaaa! What about us westerly Canadians? It's just as far to TO as to California(probably further).. *sigh* If only I could just get over this silly need to justify driving three days to stand in lineups, for a moment of worship and an auto, and three days back. Transportation spell anyone?
I hope you guys have a wonderful time!!

I don't think I need say how excited I am that Amber Benson will be at Toronto Trek. I'm already making plans, although it helps that I actually live in Toronto.

I was wondering if anyone has been to one of Toronto Treks conventions before because I must admit that I find everything slightly overwhelming!

I've never been to a convention of any kind before ever.....oh wait...an idea...is...forming...is it totally inapproriate to suggest that any Toronto area Kittens that don't have anyone to go to the convention with might semi band together and go like in a group? Is anyone interested in that? Cos I would sure like to go with a buddie...and a fellow kitten would be cool.

And if not that is cool too! Just thought I'd throw that idea out there.

After two years I'm de-lurking, to say woo and hoo! I'm so excited Amber's coming to Toronto. She will be five minutes from my house. Okay, calming down now to ask how this Toronto Trek works, has anyone been before? I went to the website but I'm still a little confused.

Just wanted to add that I'm going to go on my own, I wouldn't mind meeting other Kittens.

We did that for the San Deigo Comic Con, and it worked out great. I highly recommend it.

As for Amber's appearance at this convention - once more this is not something you'd expect her to be doing if she wasn't expecting her relationship with Buffy to continue...

Okay I don't know where to put this (don't want to double post or anything) but I'll post this is the kitty gatherings thread as well just in case.

So I've heard from some of you about going to the con together. Before I jump into full planning mode I just wanted to ask(again) if anyone was interested in going as a group like if you have no one else to go with (I have few friends who watch Buffy- it's tragic really), haven't been to a con before and want some fellow first timers with you for moral support, or just want to go with some fellow kittens from the board we all know and love then please email me (Ashley) at kilopto@yahoo.com

If enough of us want to go together (and by "enough" I mean at least two ) then I can organize something, like maybe a pre get together or something. Whatever works, I've never been to a convention so I'm really just winging it here!

So, thoughts, suggestions, yays or nays: kilopto@yahoo.com

Thanks for your time!!
Ashley

Oh, but Bob, you know as well as I do that out-of-work actors always waste their precious summer months promoting shows they've been written out of. They also wistfully write comics celebrating the relationship of a couple they used to comprise half of. You know, cause they have nothing better to do, like find other acting gigs, cause they're, you know, out-of-work.

Right.

I'm still betting she's already signed as a regular for next season. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it!

I've been to Toronto Trek. I flew up one year with a few other Trek fans from Nova Scotia. I was going specifically to see Nana Visitor who played Kira Nerys on DS9, my favorite all time Trek character. Unfortunately, Visitor had to cancel at the last moment because of illness. I'm certainly not trying to suggest that Benson would cancel, but it's always a possiblity so try to be prepared to enjoy yourself no matter what happens. Delays happen, appearances get cut short, and once in awhile the autograph line is too long so not everyone gets one. Sometimes if you're going to a con for just one thing and one thing only, you can't get the full benefit which is a shame because Toronto Trek is a great con.

They were able to replace Visitor with the actor that played Dukat (they found out Friday night, he was there Saturday) so they are very good at handling unexpected occurances unlike a lot of other cons. It wasn't the same thing for me, of course, but he was very charming and his talk was fairly interesting, as were all the other actors, even those from shows that I didn't follow. I found Majel Roddenbury (whom I hadn't even known was going to be there) was the highlight of the entire event because she's just so fan friendly. There were plenty of panels, both pro and fan run, on various sci-fi topics so avail yourselves of those. I particularly enjoyed the panels by authors Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens who have written several Trek books. While the actors tend to be pretty protected and you can only see them from a distance (except for a quick passby in the autograph line), the authors and other guests (like SFX people) are usually just as interesting, their autograph lineups aren't nearly as long and you sometimes have a chance to speak with them at their panels and appearances in a way you can't with actors. Sometimes they even wander around the merchandise room, which is huge, by the way. It's also great fun to speak with the fans who run the other panels after they're done (they're usually with the group running the convention) and you'd be amazed at the backstage information you can find out that way if you're polite and friendly. (What I learned about Marina Sirtis's - Deanna Trois - appearance the previous year will forever color my opinion of her. *G*)

There's also lots to see and do in the city itself. My advice is to go to the con for its sake and if you get to see Benson not only do a talk, but say a few words in the autograph line or have your question answered, that's a wonderful bonus.

Can someone please mention -while at the conventions- to whom ever arranges these thing, to make there way out to Vancouver, B.C. We need to have something big out here to celebrate the show. I would love to meet other fans, but I can't afford to go to Toronto. I can garentee at least 3 fans that would be at that convention.
