CPS Boy, this thread is supposed to be for quick questions and answers only - not long discussions (and anything about gender/sexuality turns into a long discussion here).

Xita said something to that effect some posts ago, FYI.

Hey CPS Boy, why not post your question (a worthwhile one) in the Lesbian/Bi/Gay/Trans Issues thread?

I have a quick question. Why am I still awake????

Leaving now.

When referring to Season 6 episodes by number, do we go:

1. Bargaining
2. After Life
3. Flooded etc.

Or is it:

1. Bargaining 1
2. Bargaining 2
3. After Life etc.

Just a small thing, but it's beginning to bother me. And I might as well try and find out before I write my episode reviews for those shows.

The Bargaining counts as 2 episodes so Afterlife is episode 3.

Katie, I'm no expert and ratings are a very complicated subject, but here's the gist of "Sweeps".

"Sweeps" periods are times of the TV season (November, Feb., May, and July) when the advertising price of commerical time is determined depending on a given network's ratings (ie, how many people are watching which shows).

So, most networks put shiny, exciting, new episodes on during the sweeps periods of the standard TV season (November, Feb., and May) to get the highest possible ratings and therefore more money for commercial time.

To get ratings over the summer while their "established" shows are on break or in pre-production for the next season, networks sometimes try out inexpensive new shows, "Survivor" being a prime example. Overall, ratings during the summer are lower than the rest of the year; partly because it's traditionally "summer re-runs" for favorite shows, and people are traveling, etc.

Hope that answers your question.

Well, the ratings system in North America uses boxes attached to the tuners of various random viewers, to see which channel they have on. This data, along with statistics on the residents of the household, goes into databases where they calculate which shows had the highest ratings in a particular timeslot, and with which demographic.

Sweeps is a period when this data is analyzed more closely; individual broadcasting stations get their own ratings data, not just the parent network. As a result, these periods tend to be where programming is more likely to be watched; series get first-run episodes, the movies shown tend to be blockbuster hits or TV premieres, and mini-series and other events have big names and budgets.

The sweeps months are November, February, May, and to a lesser extent, August.

Thus, you'll usually find a run of first-run episodes for a show you watch during those months.

That cover it?quote:

The other people have done a pretty good job of explaining this, but it's what I do for a living so I figured I could get more specific.

Ratings in the US: In large markets the household ratings are measured continually (metered markets), by the boxes on the television set mentioned before. However, these boxes do not give any exact demographic data and, like I said before, they are only in big markets. There are 53 'metered' markets and 209 markets total in the US.

So, to get the exact demographic data Nielsen has people fill out diaries. In these diaries they write down the statistics about themselves and what they are watching. This is done is every market in February, May, July and November. In about twenty-five markets this is also measured in January and October, and in the top five markets March as well.

Sweeps are important because those for months are the only time we have complete information about what everyone is watching in the US. Those ratings are used to estimate ratings for the next year, and thus figure out how much the stations can charge their advertisers. It's all about money, baby.

I hope that made some sense. If it didn't just ask and I'll try to clarify.

Evie

This thread is for anyone who has a What ep. had the scene with W/T, where Willow described her eggs as two boobs looking at her, was it 'Forever'.

I went through my eps. trying to find the scene and maybe I fastforwarded over it.

Yeah Pandora, the episode where Willow describes Tara eggs, as little boobs, is "Forever". Ep 17 in season 5. That's where we had the Sassy Eggs line.

hey all

I saw in a guestbook that there's this rumor about Alyson Hannigan getting pinned to a wall by some fans during a posting board party and was saved by Alexis Denisof. Is this true cos it sounds real unpleasant on Aly's side.

I haven't heard anything about those rumors and God I hope its not true. Poor Aly!
And where'd you get your signature quote from? Is it from the comic? Because if it is, its kinda cool how they take lines from the show and add to it. But since I haven't read any of the comics I guess I wouldn't know.
Lets not forget though that its Aly's Birthday on Sunday the 24th!!!

"Honey, in case you didn’t hear me the first six-thousand times, no more teleportation spells." – "Crush"

Tara: "Down to every last bagel"
Willow: "Down to every last everything I do with you" – "Forever"

um... how come I'm unregistered in this thread??? Strange....

Anyway, I read this rumour from http://www.fontaine.comcen.com.au/
website's guestbook. It's all written in caps. It's very irresponsible of those fans to do that if it's true. I mean, that's not even giving Alyson respect, or any person in that kind of situation.

My signature quote was taken off a BtVS season 5 trading card. Love this quote.. heh heh...I think I've repeated this many times but still... love this quote. It's seldom used and I think it's so special.

It seems awfully late for news like this to come out. In the days following the PBP, there's a flurry of picture posting and anecdote telling about what all went on.

If we didn't immediately hear about any unpleasantness or "incidents" from fans who were there, and no negative follow-up comments from Joss or anyone at the Bronze or Bronze Beta...I wouldn't worry about it too much.
