General Season 6 Spoilers - Part 10

Postby Rosenberg » Sat Mar 16, 2002 8:32 pm

My emotions have really run the gamut this week, and I keep looking for reasons to hope. But somehow, my mind keeps wandering back to a quote from Tara in Spiral: "Dark...all dark..." and about to get darker. That pretty much sums up my feelings about Season 6 right now. The buses seem to be pretty full. Maybe we could book a cruise ship and get everybody on board.

Okay, I have a question.

About three or so weeks ago, I remember seeing a post at the BetaBronze from someone who was upset because they had been spoiled by something in a TV guide. I think it may have been an Australian one or something like that, but I can't really remember. And the gist of it was they had a blurb about the Troika and how they were kind of just annoyances until one of the Scoobies was going to help them out and wind up giving them real Big Bad potential.

Does anyone know if that was real? If it was really in an official TV Guide kind of magazine or anything like that? I can't for the life of me remember if it was ever confirmed.

Here's the article in question...

"And as for the new villain? Watch out for the return of three former bit-part Buffy foes who join forces to take over Sunnydale. Known to themselves as 'The Troika' and to others as 'The Nerds of Doom', they become an annoying thorn in Buffy's side until someone else joins them to give serious bad-guy power. Just who that is is one of the closest-kept secrets in Buffyland, but rumours have it we may be seeing one of the Scooby Gang, Buffy's long-term group of friends, turning to the dark side."

From the Australian Sun-Herald. It was reported by Melissa on Forum 4 Fans on March 3rd. She does mention, however, that this paper doesn't have the shiniest track record.

Here's hoping the quoting bit works this time...

General Season 6 Spoilers - Part 10

Postby Sela » Sat Mar 16, 2002 9:06 pm

I just have to believe that there's a reason for all this darkness, and moreover, that there will be a way to reverse the events of the last four episodes. Not that it will be much of a comfort after having been subjected to Tara's death, but I just have to believe. It doesn't mean I'm not angry. In fact, I'm pretty awfully gosh-darned pissed, but I'm holding on a little longer.

And now for the anger...

But you know--I put my faith in these writers and producers. I tune in every week to catch a new episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And as a loyal viewer, I expect a payback. Call me crazy, call me obsessive, call me what you will. I demand that my investment be rewarded in some way, shape, or form. Yes, I could just change the channel if I don't feel that I am receiving what I need, and I might very well do that. I don't want to because the show is clever, fresh, and witty and it's probably my one bright spot in my week. So yes, I have a choice--but at some point, the writers and producers have to take responsibility.

This is a show built on a rabid fan base. Without us, where would it be? And yes, not every fan can be appeased, but does the Grim Reaper just have to come a-knockin' on Tara's door? The show certainly doesn't have to turn into death and doom in order to build dramatic intensity. And here I could've sworn Marti and Joss said this season was going to different...

We're talking about a character, who has quietly yet forcefully penetrated our hearts. And I don't want to sit back and watch her die because it makes for great Shakespearean tragedy. Hey, I like drama. I'll admit to enjoying sappy, Romeo and Juliet-like stories, but why can't this be different? What I love about Tara is that she defies stereotypes and labels. She's a role model--plain and simple. Everything about her is admirable. And I think all of us on this board can relate to her in some way. So, to think that it might all be ripped away from us. Like all of the time we spent sitting in front of the television, with our fingers switching between play and rewind were just for naught. I can't take it. And I honestly don't know what my reaction is going to be when this comes to pass. Especially if it's not reversed.

Yes, this is my rant. It's been stored up for a couple of weeks now. And now I will flag down the bus and kindly ask to be allowed on board...again.

Let's not have a repeat of other threads. There will be no hierarchy of people in the spoiler thread, no leaders, captains, etc. There are other threads for OT and I think the daily thread is perfect for this. So, if you have new opinions, takes, or rants to give about the spoilers, please feel free.

I know the spoiler FREE thread runs much differently but the poor souls participate in so few threads that the thread allows them participation on the board.

However, this is the spoiler thread and now that we have all had time to process the spoilers, let's tighten up the ON Topicness of the thread.

Take the time to read the faq

That was a very sensible rant, Sela. And I completely agree with you. We may be obsessive, but they made us what we are. If this comes to pass, it's to ME that we should be saying "Oh grow up!"...

I don't know about the Bus People, but if I were them, I'd welcome you back in a heartbeat.

Just have to say, and Xita or any of the other moderators can edit it out if this is the wrong place to post it, but I just read what Spoiler Slayer posted on their website for today, and I just have to say " I just don't see it". There has been absolutely no foreshadowing of Tara's death. NONE.

General Season 6 Spoilers - Part 10

Postby maudmac » Sat Mar 16, 2002 9:34 pm

I only became a spoiler ho after Tabula Rasa, so I have a question for you ho's from way back. Has there ever been an ep that there were no (or very, very few) spoilers for?

Another thing. I know cast/crew are under strict instructions not to communicate spoilers. At least, not without prior approval from ME. Okay, so try to imagine yourself as completely unspoiled. (It's hard, I know!) The last ep you saw was Normal Again. You'd probably be wondering right now if Tara and Kissing Girl were really "seeing" each other, and whether Tara came to the Summers house to tell Willow that or to reassure her that Willow had misinterpreted what she saw. Right? I know I would.

In this light, what Amber talked about on Loveline, the discussion about the scene she'd filmed, is actually a pretty big spoiler. My logic is that ME gave her the go ahead to spill those beans. (And it did sort of come out of the blue, actually.) So, why do y'all think they'd want that to get out?

General Season 6 Spoilers - Part 10

Postby Kendahl897 » Sat Mar 16, 2002 9:35 pm

I wasn't sure if I should post that or not as I don't know how reliable they've been in the past or whether or not she's one of the people you consider reliable, such as AngelX or DSM. Glad to hear she's not.
I can see the foreshadowing of Anya and the pendant, and things like that, but nothing about Tara. And believe me, I watch this show like a religion.
To me, Tara is like an anchor to Willow. Losing Tara when she left her was the impetus for Willow to get on the wagon and stay on it, to win her love back. Losing Tara in the way been told is the impetus for her to fall off said wagon.
Having said that, I am on the front of the bus that says everything will be okay in the end.

I can say with pretty good authority that the author was simply guessing. Seeing as Willow torches Warren (good riddence) and Jonathan and Andrew are arrested in 18...
well...

God, ep 18 is going to make us think its going to be ok..
and 19...
Glad Im spoiled...

General Season 6 Spoilers - Part 10

Postby BBOvenGuy » Sat Mar 16, 2002 9:43 pm

Yeah, I saw the Spoiler Slayer, too. Two thoughts on that:

#1) You know, it's really easy to rationalize things and say "We were meant to get here all along" once you've arrived at a certain destination. That doesn't necessarily make it true. I could probably come up with very detailed examples of how Buffy's hair was always foreshadowed to be the length it is now, or how it was predestined that Dawn would always scream "Get Out! Get Out! GET OUT!" on Buffy's birthday. That doesn't mean I would be right.

#2) An entire essay on how unsurprising it is that Tara is the BSD is still a bit premature. She's a BSD, but whether she's the only BSD or if her death is permanent remains to be seen. There are still two episodes left in the season and plenty of plot devices running around that could bring about a reversal.

i agree, that tara's death has not been wildly foreshadowed...that being said, i have realized in watching reruns of episodes, that sometimes we can't know what is foreshadowing until much later...still, i don't see it.

tara may have to die as part of some greater plan...i have faith in joss...but right now i'm clinging much more happily to the mention of happy make-up sex than dwelling on the violent death of a character i love with a weapon that has been spoken of in the buffyverse over and over as "those things...never useful" ... i have to believe that means that somehow it will also not be permanent...but hopefully without cheese

For as far as I can remember, which is not that far, meaning the start of Season 4, there's always been spoilers for every episode. The Internet makes them easy to access. But the "spoilees" are most defintely getting bigger in numbers. There have been episodes, however, without reliable spoilers for less than a week before they aired.

As to Tensai's (Spoiler Slayer) Saturday update... I think it's aggravating. It's "I told you so", it's gloating and it shouldn't be viewed by Kittens. God knows they have more than enough trouble keeping that Bus on the road, why tip them over?

And I agree, Xita. The bias... but he's (it's a He, by the way) got a right to word his opinion. I just have the right to not read it.

Bob, sure it does. It's been foreshadowed since Hush. That part where people think Buffy is miming opening a box is really her making a cutting motion indicating her hair would be cut in the future. It's all there and very clear. And Dawn said the same "GET OUT" speech last year. If that isn't indicating she would do it in the birthday episode you must be on crack.

Well, what ticks me off is that Tensai considers himself a guest here at the Kitten Board, and he helps himself to our spoilers (including my Location Shoot Reports) - and this is the thanks we get for what we've given him. Its one thing to try to collect spoilers and score them, its quite another to analyize what is coming up based on them and try to be an expert.
Frank has been wrong in his analysis all season (and so I have mostly), and I wouldnt lose any sleep over his ideas.
Hmmm sleeeep!!

I have almost more spoilers than anybody else, and I havent the faintest idea what is next and I dont think anyone outside of ME does..

Thanks. So there's a trend of keeping the last bits close to the vest, I guess.

I'm thinking some other things. Trying to fill in the holes in the spoilage is bothering me. Naturally, I'm trying to connect the dots and perhaps that's overly speculative and not really appropriate. Mods?

Does anyone have a grasp on just how much we're missing? I mean, has anyone actually laid out all the spoilers in chronological order and estimated how much screentime still needs to be filled in?

I'm not clear on how in the world Warren could mistake Tara for Buffy in the first place. Unless the way it goes down is that there's some kind of struggle between Warren, Buffy, and Tara. Or if Tara's hit by a stray bullet or something.

But the spoilage implies that Willow finds Tara's body and takes off after Warren. This suggests that Buffy wasn't around when Tara was shot. So how does Willow even know it was Warren? (I guess there are lots of ways, really, and we just don't have all the details.)

The hole that's bothering me most today is what happens to Tara's body? Does everyone just run off toward The Trainwreck and leave the poor girl lying there? (The fact that there's no spoilage regarding paramedics, the police, an investigation, etc., somehow helps me to hope for The Reset.)

I think I might be nitpicking. I also think I might be shutting up now. Mods?

- Busless and takin' it one day at a time.

Edited to say that I would gladly trade my newfangled Doll's Eye Crystal status (which pathetically elicited a delighted gasp from me) for the trainwrecky spoilers.

The problem is that there have been inconsistent reports about what actually happens in 19. Though that poster at the bronze seems to have had some things right, like the sex which we now know happens because of Amber's love line interview.

Actually, I wanted to say that the loveline thing made me feel better. I mean, she wasn't there promoting anything else. I was so scared she was there to promote a movie. But she just seemed to be there to promote Buffy. Interesting.
