Early signs of Willow's lesbianism (S1-3)

Postby Web Warlock » Fri Mar 22, 2002 9:38 am

Thanks!

Huh, the trouble is I like girls. Oh, wait, not really an issue here.

I am looking for other good pages to link to or randomly pilfer ideas from. I think I should link to this thread at the very least. I might also include Sassette's description in "Answering Darkness" of Willow and Tara's first kiss.

Any other speculative stuff would be great.
Just post it here I guess. Since it would be on topic and everyone else could benefit.

I do hang out at one other board, it is an RPG one and I don't know how many times I have had to "debate" this topic with otherwise intelligent people. I have had to do it with moronic chuckleheads too, but I expect them to be idiots.

Kinsey Scale: Don't make me laugh. I have been a practicing psychologist for 10 years. I have used this ONCE, in some undergrad psych course that I was taking, not teaching. This thing is so out of date... but I won't belabor a dead topic.

I will be working on this page for the rest of today. I just added a some more text and another pic.

Again, Thanks!

Warlock.

The Transit story belongs to our very own Bob, BBOvenGuy. If you like it, tell him!

The W+T graphic? I have no clue. I downloaded because it because Aly is so cute in it. Don't get me started on red-heads with short hair! Mein Gott that was my bane in college. I think I chased every short haired red head on campus. I even caught a few!

I am going to add my speculation on Willow's crush on Jenny and the Buffy-Faith-Willow sexual tension.

Is there anything else I am missing from the Pre-Tara area, what Willow refers to as the dark ages. Or maybe the 'pre-orgasmic' days.

One more post about Willow's sexuality (gay or bi?) and I am closing this thread. Read the FAQ please people. If you don't like the position the board takes with this then the kitty may not be for you.

The issue has been discussed enough to where it is counterproductive to continue to discuss it.

I believe that the reason Willow has to keep reiterating that she's gay IS BECAUSE OF POSTS LIKE THIS ONE!!!!

I'd just like to add a final note with no disrespect to anyone here -- but just to say that I started this thread with the intent of humor.

I am a very secure person with a tendancy to be irreverant. I firmly believe Willow is GAY. I still think it's okay to make fun of it in a good natured way. I make fun of myself. I never meant to insinuate a "is she or isn't she" argument or even to seriously suggest that Joss & co. deliberatly plotted a lesbian story for Willow early on.

Reading the "WT naked sex" thread, I got the impression that a lot of the Kittens were funny and could poke fun at themselves.

Obviously, I'm new to the board. I've been lurking for a couple of months. In no way did I mean to beat a dead horse.

It was meant to fuel a discussion of post-ironic self aware humor. And all of you who pointed out the crush on Jenny were right on.

Anyway, didn't mean to start such a mess. I'll know better next time.

On the good side, I've been turned on to some great essays because of this thread. Thanks WebWarlock and Under Her Spell.

I'm still enjoying this board. Thanks.

Verdant, your post was not causing any problems, the thread title clearly states you are talking about S1-3, it is the people who come in and start in on S4-till now who still say Willow is not gay. That won't do, and if you read the thread we were having fun anyway.

Dr G.
Thanks for the reassurance. I'm tempted to make some smart assed remark about lesbians taking everything too seriously but I was probably just guilty of it myself. ;-)

I think there are three reasons why Willow is still telling people she's gay on a regular basis. (1) For the benefit of new viewers who haven't heard it before, (2) as a reminder to old-timers who haven't given up on their Willow/Xander, Willow/Oz, Willow/Spike, etc. ships, and (3) simply because on American TV you always have to tell the audience something several times before it sinks in.

I dont think i even "got" the early hints that Willow is gay lol..I was so smitten by this wonderfully sensitive, cute, intelligent character that it didnt even matter..Then I saw the chemistry between the beautiful and wistful Tara and Willow and thought now those two are meant for each other..

Tara is such a wonderful character, she compliments Willow in so many ways..Her quiet inner strength is amazing, yet she is so shy..And to see Willow around her, stronger, more confident, protective..A match made for all time***

I think you hit the nail on the head BBovenguy as to why its constantly repeated. I think Joss and co. are just trying like us to put the issue to rest that Willow IS indeed GAY!
Also, awesome site Web Warlock. And about that pic of Aly holding a card that says "Willow + Tara = Love", its unfortunately not real. The first time I saw that I thought it was the cutest thing in the world. But there was actually something else on the card like a magazine logo or something from a shoot from the same magazine and someone changed it to the love thing, which I think is awfully cute.

------------------
"But with Tara, I just know she likes Willow, and she already has one of those" – "Family"

"Honey, in case you didn’t hear me the first six-thousand times, no more teleportation spells." – "Crush"

Willow: "I figured, life goes by so fast, if you don’t write stuff down it just gets…lost."
Tara: "Down to every last bagel"
Willow: "Down to every last everything I do with you" – "Forever"

Shelly,

Thanks. I thought that might be the case, it had that altered look. But I like it becasue Aly is so damn cute and it gets the point across.
I added the "kiss" scene for Buffy comics #33 to bottom of the page, with the alt tag "See, even comic book geeks get it!"

Well, I am sure this is going to be the death of this thread. Too bad, it was a really fun one.

Ok. NOT DIRECTED AT ANYONE IN PARTICULAR.
When you join a new group, it is comon sense to lurk, read the FAQ, get a feel for what the group is about. This has been the same for the hundred's of email, SIGs, BB, BBS, WBDG and everything else I have taken a part in for the last 15 years online.

Yes the Mods are in control. It is their bord and they make the rules. If we don't like it, we can get our own board.

But I happen to like it here and agree with the policy and the FAQ. That still has not meant I have not made mistakes. I have, and I have been reprimanded for them!

There is a common goal here. People who share that goal are welcome.

Ok, enough of this crap, it’s in the FAQ, that’s it, there is no discussing it, that’s the end of it.

If you don’t like it, then leave, no one is forcing anybody to post at this board, you either follow all the rules or you don’t post here, it’s that simple.

let's all just join in a rousing chorus of the "willow is gay" song...shall we?

let the bronzers debate the topic endlessly...and they do...i embrace the kitty faq, because it ends the senseless, endless drama of the question...and because i agree with the truth of the statement that willow is, in fact, unquestionably gay.

now let's play some more with season 1-3...i enjoy re-analyzing the past...

Looking back I can see the crush on Miss Calender. I'm not sure what to think of her having a crush on Buffy though. I just recently watched "Reptile Boy" and this exchage about Buffy going to the party jumped out at me

quote:

Buffy: I-I'm not going with Angel. I'm going with -- ye gods -- Cordelia.
Willow: Cordelia?! Did I sound a little jealous just then, 'cause I'm not really

That could be taken a couple of ways. Either at face value that it was simple surprise and not jealusy, or hidden subtext that she is actually jealous and is doing her best to hide it. The "Kinda gay" thing from Doppelgangland probably didn't mean anything at the time, just something included as a joke, but also to keep their options open.

as for the early signs of willow's lesbianism, i couldn't say much for i haven't been an avid buffy watcher. but i could guarantee that the first time i watched the show, i was totally mesmerized by the girl whose name was "willow". first, i really found her name cute, then the red hair and all... it was just an added bonus knowing that she's gay. so now... i'm stuck with buffy (or should i say, i'm stuck with willow...).
