I don't do much in my spare time now that it's finals week. My brain is stuck in biology hell, but I can still find the time to play my baby, that's my guitar.

what creative people visit this message board.

When I'm not reading message boards or watching/thinking/etc BtVS I love to read and spend a lot of time doing that. I work in a bookstore so that helps with the cost of material.

I also love playing with my cat who is spoiled and really owns me! He allows me to live in his house and buy his food!!

not a very exciting life but I'm content. lol

My life outside of Buffy consists mostly of sports and my dog. I am a big Patriots and Red Sox fan, and I coach softball for the local high school. I have a basset hound and have done some tracking work with him, and I might get into the rabbit hunting arena. No bunnies are ever hurt, bassets were meant to find, not to kill. Still, it will depend on much stress and fear are put into the rabbits while this is going on, I don't know if it is anything I can get into or not. I can't feel good about making bunnies stress out!
I also like to homebrew, although I haven't done it in a while. I spend a litttle dabbling in photography, and am itching to get started on a DVD collection. I watched a show on PBS about Gene Kelly today, and it made me want to run out and buy every musical I can get my hands on.

Well, I did a combination of airing my brain out and thinking about Buffy. I went back out to Griffith Park this afternoon and walked up the road where the Buffy crew had been shooting for the past couple of days. It turned into a nice nature hike.

I had my digital camera with me, too. I'll post some pics later on this evening and link to them on the Location Shoot thread.

Ahh, free time unrelated to Buffy. I, too, love to read and these days, I'll read just about anything I can find that's in English (English-language books are pretty expensive in Korea, but there aren't any stores in my city that sell them anyway ...). Then there's my Taekwondo class, going to see movies, renting videos. And after prompting from my mom, I've started writing a book about my experiences teaching here. Of course, my computer now has 5 or 6 unfinished stories on it, so who knows if I'll actually finish it ... I also do a lot of needlepoint, but I usually do that while I watch videos or TV (yay! multitasking!)

edited to add: the family research council is doing a poll about gay adoptions. Click here to go voice your opinion. Since most of the people who go to their web site a probably more conservative, maybe we can mess with their minds and skew it in the other direction

To get my mind off of Buffy, I'll spend time watching sports. This weekend it'll be hockey (Go Devils!) and the NCAA tourney. Going to watch NASCAR tomorrow plus more hockey.

Also playing on the PS2. Speaking of which, while playing Max Payne (basic one against an army shoot 'em up type game) today I came across a room with a dead body in the middle of it. Max says "I don't even want to know what happened in here". You walk over to the body and there seems to be a piece of wood sticking out of his back. And written next to the guy in his own blood? B U F

Seems I just can't get away from Buffy.

Free time not involving buffy? Hum... I love movies and books. I also love nature so I take a bus and in like 40 mins I get to very nice places.... where I can do my hiking thing, u know... Then I take taekwon-do and every once in a while I go back to my field hockey days and hang out with my old friends...
There´s also the sky. Specially in the summer... I spend most of my nights looking up at them.... Amateur astronomer I used to be...

Well, gosh, I think I can go about two minutes without thinking about Buffy stuff. I even dream BTVS. Almost every night. I even think about the show at sad things. Like wakes. But then it's generally not as much good stuff.

My friend's mom died. Of breast cancer. She was about the same age as my mom is. It's scary. My mom had a lump a few years ago, but it ended up not being cancer. Thank god. or gods and goddesses. Or good genes. Whatever. My friend's grandmother was at the thing after the funeral where people gather and drink. That's not supposed to happen you know. You're not supposed to go to your kid's funeral. But it does happen all the time. And it just sucks.

I made my gf watch American Pie 2 with me to help air out our heads. So I guess that's not Buffy exactly. heh, sigh. I like Buffy because when sad things happen it's not quite so bad as when sad things happen out here. It's things in stories. And dead people come back later. And Willow and Tara are neat.

thanks to theonering.net and Quinn for the transcript of Sir Ian McKellen's appearance on 60 Minutes II I'm about to excerpt. This struck me as amazingly honest and also sad (for the state of our society):

CR [Charlie Rose, the interviewer] – But he willingly gave up that privacy in 1988 when he publicly announced that he was gay on a British radio program. Since then he says his acting has only gotten better.

CR – So why then I say, that before he came out and freed himself, we only saw Ian McLellen half as good as he could be?

SIM [Sir Ian]- You saw a wonderful technician There was something about his acting that was deceptive, deceitful, lying.

CR – A liar?

SIM - But then I was a liar. That’s what society had forced me to be.

as for what I do outside Buffyverse, it's more like what I won't be doing today. Flash flood warnings are preventing from driving up to see my significant other for the first time since he came down for my mom's funeral around 2 months ago. grr argh.

Okay, I need to vent for a moment about my mom. So I apologize ahead of time . But I talked to my mom on the phone today for the first time in almost 2 months (we communicate online via my dad and email and AIM often, but just the two of us hadn't talked on the phone in awhile). About two weeks ago, I came out to my dad. Now, my mom already knew, but hadn't talked to my dad about it, because that's the way she is. She's catholic and feels guilty that I'm a lesbian. She thinks that it's her fault, no matter how many times I tell her that it's nobody's fault that she had nothing to do with it at all and that I was always this way, even though I didn't realize it until I was older. But she still needs to blame something. So our conversation today was about how she wants me to still think that men are good. I think she thinks I'm making a conscious choice about this. I ordered a couple books from amazon.com and had them sent home to help out my mom and dad (books written by parents with gay and lesbian children, etc), but she says she won't even read them. GRRR! ARGH! I love my mother and I know she loves me no matter what, but I also know that I cause her a lot of unnecessary stress and worry over this whole thing, and if she'd read some of the books I sent her, maybe it would help a little!

Okay, venting's over. I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

I agree about the book idea. It might benefit her. She also might realize this later down the road and take you up on your offer. Ya never know.
She’s the one causing her self to worry, not you. You tell her that's it's not her fault, but you have to realize that it is not your fault either.
But she's your mom and I understand what you mean.

Hope my comments weren't out of line.

No, not out of line at all! Thanks for your input. I don't really blame myself. It's just not in my nature/personality to blame myself for something that's not my fault - i didn't have any say in my sexual orientation, just like my mom didn't! I just want her to be happy, like I am. But, I'm not going to worry about it, no reason to, right now, it's not something I can change. The books are there if she wants to read them.

Good night, kittens. Hope everyone had/is having a good weekend. See you on the other side of tomorrow...

Her cottage is just outside of Boothbay Harbor, on Southport Island, and overlooks the Sheepscot Bay. We spent a week there and just fell in love with the beauty of Maine. Sorry about your Mom problems, La I'm having some of my own, and I really need to vent as well. Sorry for more mom-venting!

Okay, so yesterday was my birthday, so my parent's took me out to dinner. I'm not out to anyone in my family at all. They are ultra-conservative and ultra-christian, andI'm just not ready to deal with them hating me, which is pretty much what's going to happen when I tell them. Anyway, even though I'm not ready to come out to them, yesterday it was so hard to stay quiet about it. The entire dinner conversation revolved around me, and the fact that I don't have a boyfriend, and haven't for awhile. And I apparently don't act like this fact upsets me quite enough for my mother. So all evening it was "can't you ask Cynthia(my roomie)if her boyfriend has a friend you might hit it off with?" "Why don't you get back together with Travis(my boyfriend in high school-2 years ago!)" "That waiter over there looks nice, why don't you ask for his number" and on and on and on...grrr...I understand that she has no idea, and that she's trying to help, but it's driving me crazy! And I feel so dishonest...blah. Here endeth the rant

Hey Braids, I'm watching Trading Spaces right now! It's on till 2, yay!

OK, I found a really funny site today called Instant Buffy Spoilers. It's at http://www.essy.scripterz.org/spoilers.html

Basically you answer several prompts of things and it creates a big old fake but real sounding spoiler such as:

In episode 17 of season Seven, we'll see some bizarre behaviour in Sunnydale. The Joss Whedon penned episode, I'm the big bad will see many shippers dancing for joy, as Tara and Willow become intimate.

Also, I'm the big bad will see the return of a character from a previous season, when Ms. Calender shows up at the Bronze. Writer/producer, David Greenwalt stated in a recent interview that 'We expect a lot of people to be surprised by Ms. Calender's return. We'd been planning a return episode for this character for some time, but were stumped by scheduling conflicts. Luckily we were able to write it into season Seven. Fans should watch the scenes in the Bronze carefully. There's more to Ms. Calender's return than meets the eye.'

Dedicated fans will notice the hidden reference to When She Was Bad from season 2, but the real shocker comes at the end of the ep when Willow and Tara have repeated hot naked sex.

That is weird, what a connection! I am born and raised in Maine, only been away to go to school. I live in southern Maine, any further south and you are in New Hampshire. I was just out by the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge here in my town, it covers a lot of marshland and woods in the area on my way out to the beach.
It's a small world after all....
