Hin768: I don't totally have a logical answer for Willow's twin brothers, the idea came to me when having a thing about Roberta's brothers, and figured they could do with some companionship in little brother-esque activities while their sisters do older borin girly things as i'm sure they see it, if that works :-P

Tonto: Awww my poor teeth!! I better work on length then :-P You're ideas for the following chapter are great, so i'm going to write one that follows the previous involving your suggestions, as i think it is a night that should be indulged it, especially for the groups to get to know each other, so thanks!!

Oh Faith, i love Faith too much to let her go, i have plans don't you worry tehehehehe *runs off into the distance*

Eep, I missed feedbacking a couple of chapters! Bad me :ashamed

Okay, so I'm a sucker for Tara with a guitar :blush But what really got me was Tara being surrounded by her new family, and feeling that they were really enjoying her company - that was a lovely moment, Tara knowing that she's wanted and valued.

Willow's frog-fear was so cute too - poor Willow, ever tormented by her froggy foes :D

Here it is

Thanks to Tonto for the advice!

Chapter Seventeen

Willow tightened her grip on the material in her left hand and nuzzled into the softness beneath her cheek that was keeping her so warm. Unfortunately, the rest of her body was lacking the comfortable heat. That peaceful heartbeat that she had fallen asleep to was still there, keeping her breathing in a slow rhythm.

Tara felt her shirt being pulled upwards, letting a cool draft fall upon her exposed skin. She shuddered lightly and relaxed again when two legs intertwined themselves with hers. She sighed in delight as her eyes fluttered open. Her girl was tightly wrapped around her own body. Tara felt Willow moving her head around lazily as she awoke. Her cheeks turned a darker shade as a familiar pleasant feeling… no, not pleasant… very enjoyable feeling started running through her body again. Her breathing started to labor, and she could tell that Willow, who now had her left thigh pressing on Tara’s sex, had noticed her change, too.

Willow stirred at the difference in the steady beat that had sent her to sleep. She opened her eyes slowly, and moved her head around a few more times in an effort to go back to her dreamland once again, using her chosen objects as a pillow. But something small and heated was building and pressing into her cheek. Her eyes shot open at the sound of a small moan emanating from the body below her.

She pushed herself up from the comfortable position, her arms protesting the weight put on them.

“Oh, man. Oh, Tara, I’m so sorry. I didn’t… oh, oh…” Her eyes felt a little heavier and her voice faded at the sight of the girl lying before her. Tara was laid out on the sand, her legs spread slightly, her shirt lifted from her hips to just below her bra, which was no doubt Willow’s fault, from when she had sat up so abruptly. She felt her cheeks go red at this thought. Two small pebbles were rising from underneath Tara's thin shirt, which had been disturbing her pillow-rest but now she didn’t mind at all. Tara’s shallow breaths emphasized their presence.

Willow dropped her head in shame. After all, it was that, her discomfort and moving around, her stupid head, that had caused that. Did that… to Tara.

Oh, my God. I did that to Tara!

Willow was getting nervous at the lack of sound coming from the blonde, yet her breathing was still pronounced in the night air. Night… She had presumed they had slept for hours and it would be time to go home soon, but the moon was still above them, and it was her light, the moon's light, that was complimenting Tara’s soft curves and expression for her and just her. Willow had almost forgotten about the others. She glanced around, from behind the small curtains of hair that had fallen across her face, to find the group still sound asleep on the sand.

“Willow?” Tara whispered, not knowing if she had overstepped a line by voicing the moan that was begging to be sounded and breaking the silence of the peaceful night. A moan that felt as if it would have imploded in her chest and sunk further down, twisting through her body, causing every muscle to turn and tighten in protest if it had not had the chance to reach over her tongue and beyond her lips, into a wave that touched Willow’s ears and caused such a reaction.

“Willow?” She tried again, only seeing her girl flinch at the first call of her name and bow her head further.

Willow gulped and pulled her eyes upwards. They rested on the alluring sight of Tara, who was still not making any effort to cover up the waxen skin of her stomach.

“Tara,” was all she could get out, choking on the word. She had hoped to sound a little more charming than that, but her mouth got the better of her again.

“Sorry,” Tara said.

“Why?” Willow asked, uncertain why the sexy sounds uttered from the blonde's lips would be worthy of an apology.

“I got away with the moment, which actually shouldn’t have been a moment; you were just sleeping and trying to get comfy, and here comes slutbomb me, getting all hot and bothered with my frisky self…”

Willow giggled at Tara’s over-analysis of the situation. She just called her self a frisky slutbomb, she thought.

“If that’s what frisky slutbomb Tara is like, I think I should provoke this alter ego more often.” Willow flashed a cheeky smile and pulled herself towards the blonde. She leaned into her, draping her arm over the exposed stomach. Fingering the loop holes of her faded green cargos, she relaxed her head on the soft mounds below her.

“Well, seeing as everyone is asleep, we could, ya know, make use of the time…” Tara teased. She could feel the blush in Willow’s cheeks, despite the fact that she was facing the opposite direction. Tara twirled some of Willow's silken red hair around her finger and recognized the unsteady breathing of the girl half draped on top of her.

Willow felt the Tara's stomach flex, and heard a giggle escape her lips. “Yes, I suppose we could,” she said modestly.

Without another thought, Tara pulled on Willow’s shoulders, causing her to lift herself up from her position and learn over to face her, chest to chest. They stared at each other for a moment, studying the contours of each other's faces against the soft light. Tara was admiring the deep green depth of Willow’s eyes that had so many specks and pictures hidden in them. She could stare at those eyes for hours and create magical fairytale stories of castles. She could see one of them clearly now, to the right of the girl's pupil. It stood tall and glamorous, with small dancing figures surrounding and a waving flag at the top. Tara bowed her head and laughed to herself; the moon certainly played tricks on her eyes, but the desire hidden in those two looking back at her were definitely no illusion and she could see Willow understanding the desire in her own reflection.

They both sat up and in the same motion entwined their hands within each other's hair and smashed their lips together in a desperate need to be as close as they could possibly be. Willow slowly and teasingly sucked on Tara’s soft, puckered lower lip.

Tara slipped out her tongue and ran it against Willow’s upper lip, causing Willow to open her mouth and welcome in Tara’s eager and wet tongue.

Tara moaned into the kiss and brought up both her hands to cup Willow’s soft cheeks, feeling the heat building into her palms. She whispered the girl’s name as their lips parted before pressing into each other again.

Willow slipped her hand down and graced it across Tara’s smooth stomach; she felt a small shake from within the girl simultaneous with a sharp breath taken from her own mouth. Her fingers danced steadily in small circles, teasing the girl. She was enjoying this too much. She wanted to feel Tara pull her head back and moan into the night, because of her and her touch against the beautiful alabaster skin.

Willow moved her lips away from Tara’s mouth and slid them down against her jaw, making a trail of small feather light kisses, which slowly reached her destination, her neck.

Willow stopped for a moment and considered her next move, building anticipation within Tara. She pressed a firm yet simple kiss on her pulse point and felt a smooth beat against her lips. She withdrew again, before making a small circle with her tongue on the chosen spot while trailing her fingers further up the girl’s shirt in the same pattern.

Tara didn’t know how much more she could take. She knew they were pushing a boundary, especially with so many people around them, some potentially awake, but the quick motion of Willow’s hand on the underside of her bra, sliding upwards to cup her breast, and Willow's mouth sucking her skin, running her tongue over the chosen spot, evaporated all of Tara’s logical thought. She gasped and moaned at the same time. She reached up to Willow’s hair and pulled on it gently in need, not wanting the girl to stop her slow and torturous ministrations underneath her shirt.

“Hmm hmm.”

They pulled apart fast enough to just leave a trail of blurred motion between them at the sound of Buffy coughing. Tara scrambled to pull her flimsy white shirt down but it seemed to have gotten caught on her bra somehow. Her cheeks were burning.

Willow saw how flustered Tara was and decided that helping her out would be a good idea. They both grabbed at the T-shirt at the same time, pulling it in all directions, until it fell against the skin of her stomach and she was covered once again.

They sat apart with their hands firmly in their laps and stared at the small, sleepy blonde rubbing her eyes and giving the girls a knowing look. Their cheeks reddened with embarrassment. Willow looked in every direction but Buffy’s, however she failed to regain her natural, non sexually flustered look.

Tara had proceeded to work on the “Cousin It” look. She had pulled her blonde hair all the way over her face in an attempt to turn invisible magically. Buffy heard a mumble from below the body of hair, as the mouth underneath attempted to share a few words.

“What was that, Tara?” Buffy asked with a coy smile. Tara pulled back a curtain of hair with her graceful fingers and sheepishly pulled her eyes up to Buffy.

“We thought you were asleep,” she mumbled and looked down to the sand again. She entwined her other hand with Willow’s, who still looked like a deer caught in headlights.

“Uh, I... Uh, I mean… Uh, oh… Umm…” Willow coughed and looked at Tara for some help but the girl still had her gaze firmly fixed on the ground below her.

“What’s going on?” they heard from behind them.

Sam had pulled herself up from the cozy spot she had nestled in, between Chrissy and Xander, to see the red faces of the two girls. It clicked immediately when she glanced over and saw Buffy’s cheeky smile.

“Don’t you guys ever give it a rest?!” she teased.

Tara dropped her head but this time she started laughing. She felt stupid, but not in a bad way. How could they not have expected someone to wake up? She knew that if they had carried on for much longer, many more sounds of passion would have escaped their lips, waking up a lot more people than just Buffy.

Another person started stirring, from the pile of teenagers next to Sam, groaning with complaint about being woken up. Sam, Buffy, Willow and Tara all looked at each other and said, "Chrissy,” and laughed.

“Why, you guys? Why? Come on, it’s like a billion-o’clock at night. I gotta sleep!”

“Sorry, Chris, but these two here felt the need to wake us up with their gropey kissing,” Sam said casually.

Xander sat up at those words, knowing she was referring to Willow and Tara. “Well, now that I’m awake…” He grinned, putting one arm around Sam and the other around Chrissy’s shoulder. Chrissy shrugged him off with a moan and lay back down, still making sounds of complaint as she got herself comfortable again.

“Xander, you look a little too awake,” Willow accused.

“You two noisy ladies did make me stir from my beauty sleep, but my eyes were still closed!” Xander said.

Buffy punched him in the arm. “Eww, you big perve!”

Xander toppled over, waking up the rest of the gang. There were a number of protests but within a few moments everyone was reasonably awake,l except Chrissy, who had cuddled herself into a fetal position around the remains of the fire.

“So, guys… Truth or Dare. Who’s it gonna be?” Teeny waggled her eyebrows.

Ohhh...update-y goodness!!

Your W & T are just too cute for words, hehe...of course they would be totally embarrased, I mean...it was expected. But some little part of my brain kept hoping that one of'em -maybe Tara?- would stand up and drag the other one to a more secluded part of the forest, away from prying eyes & ears so we could enjoy some smut, he. :blush

I think you're doing a great job here. Please keep it up. :clap
I'm already waiting for the next update.

I'm late leaving feedback, my apologies :ashamed

But, I loved this chapter - the infectious, throwing-all-cares-to-the-wind 'new love' feeling between Willow and Tara is so sweet. They're all nervous and hesitating and over-analysing, and at the same time elated and lusty... :x It's really quite touching. Plus, hilarious them being caught at it :lol

(By the way, 'Now and Then' was on TV the other night. Sadly I didn't notice until it had already begun, and I didn't want to start half-way through. So... really no point me bringing it up :blush Just thought I'd mention it though. I do like the non-Buffy characters in this story.)

Chapter Eighteen

“I did not!” Roberta yelled. She slapped her hand down on the sand to emphasize her protest against being accused of playing a teapot in the junior school production.

“I was there. I saw it - you - in all your teapot glory!” Sam teased, jabbing Roberta in the ribs first. Roberta huffed and sulked, with her arms crossed firmly against her chest.

“Okay, as much as I’m loving this, please let’s move onto the juicy stuff,” Buffy suggested to the now silent but smirking group.

“Yeah, I have to agree. As much as I love hearing these traumatic childhood stories, I’m sure there are a few more interesting things we could know about each other,” Willow added, cocking her eyebrow.

Tara gave her a small smile and a slight blush before lowering her head. Xander spoke up with panic in his voice.

“I’m not sure this is such a good idea. I’m sure guys have a much larger proportion of embarrassing stories than girls, and I’m just totally outnumbered here. Maybe I should sit this one out and, uh, just listen?” He gave a flash of a hopeful and desperate smile.

“No chance, bud, you’re in for the long haul. You’re one of the girls now.” Roberta patted him on the back and the rest of the group laughed at his defeated sigh.

Tara got up and grabbed a few more sticks for the fire that was vastly decreasing. The group positioned themselves into a small circle around the fire that Tara was turning into a beautiful heated lamp. A few fireflies spun around, and ash flickered in the flames, rising up towards the sky. The group shared a few glances, looking nervous, as if a horror story was about to be told.

Roberta was reminded of just a few years before, sitting in a cold and dark grave yard not so far from home. Sam had lit three large candles and instructed the group to hold hands before reciting a blessing. A cold wind had brushed past them, instilling fear over the act they were about to perform. Chrissy always showed the most fear. Roberta had refused to look so weak, despite the turning of her stomach that pleaded with her to stand up and run back to her warm bed, away from the danger of powerful spiritual forces.

“I’m not fat!” She remembered Chrissy’s words as she pulled on Roberta’s small jacket after being insulted. She felt guilty at how harsh she had been back then to the girl.

Roberta pulled herself back into reality. This night was definitely nothing like back then. Then they were innocent, playing with things that scared them beyond anything they would dare tell, but still they had had the childish quality. Now, well, now here she was feeling the safest she had ever experienced before. Tonight was warm and cozy. Nothing like the days of…

“Roberta…” Teeny bumped her friend with her elbow, pulling the girl out of her trance. “Penny for your thoughts?” she asked with genuine concern. The lines forming on Roberta’s forehead led her to believe the girl wasn’t concerning herself with pleasant images.

“Dear Johnny” Roberta said in an almost whisper. The three other girls fell silent across the fire and looked up apprehensively. “I’m sorry,” Roberta stumbled.

She shouldn’t have said anything, the night was going fine. Why did she have to ruin it? She waited for a reply but there was nothing. She looked up around the circle. Buffy, Xander and Willow were looking confused, even concerned by the glum looks of the others. She looked at Tara, Sam and Chrissy. Sam coughed and threw another stick on the fire.

“It’s okay, it was a long time ago,” Tara said softly, and attempted to form a smile.

“Sorry to break the nostalgic moment, but… huh?” Willow said with a blank expression.

“Never mind, Will. We were kids, we did a few silly things.”

Tara grabbed hold of Willow's hand and looked her in the eye. “On a full moon we used to try to talk to the dead. It sounds stupid, I guess it was just one of those teenage things that you do.”

Willow was a little frightened but Tara’s continuing smile comforted her.

Roberta finished off from where Tara had stopped. “Yeah, we used to go down to the grave yard. There was this kid, Dear Johnny, and we thought we’d give him a try instead of, like…”

“Marilyn Monroe.” Teeny giggled.

“Yeah, we did all this research about him and found out some stuff I don’t think we were ready for. But that’s life for you, it’s not all teddies and shit.”

The girls smiled at the classic Roberta way of speaking, all remembering their own images of the night that they found Dear Johnny’s broken grave.

“But that stuff is over now, it was just… just a thing. And on that note, can we move on to a lighter topic, please?” Chrissy begged.

“I think that’s a good idea,” Tara answered.

Teeny squeezed Roberta’s hand to make sure she was okay.

Roberta gave her a smile and moved on. “So, Chrissy, that guy on camp last year…”

“You mean that god-awful campsite in the woods, where they expected us to bond whilst climbing death trap obstacle courses?” Chrissy retorted.

“Yes, I seem to vaguely remembering you spending a long time on the bungee ramp,” Roberta suggested, giving her a knowing look.

“Are you kidding me?! You think I would be flirting on top of that death dive!”

“I certainly do!” Roberta shot back again; she could see Chrissy’s cheeks from across the fire, increasing in shades of pinkish-red.

“Yeah, well… I was really scared! He was the one who did the flirting, that is, before pushing me over. Like he has a chance now!”

“Aha! I knew it!” Sam was listening with wide eyes, hanging on to every word. She had known the rumors were true, but wanted Chrissy to admit it. She knew Roberta would be able to get it out of her, which was why she had tipped her off earlier on. Roberta gave Sam a wink and they both started laughing.

“Stop it! How do you do that?! How do you ALWAYS get me to confess?” Chrissy was trying to pout but really she was laughing with them inside. After all, the boy was kind of cute.

“It’s my talent, girl,” Roberta said and waited for the next question.

Chrissy took a moment to think, and finally she thought of a question. “Willow, your first kiss. Tell all.”

“Oh…” Willow looked between Chrissy, who was desperate to hear the answer, and Tara, who was also turning a darker shade. She was a bit torn, it wasn’t like she could drag Tara off or consider how much to tell. She realized that the others didn't even know that Tara was her first.

Willow looked back and forth awkwardly a few more times before Tara ended up giving her a nudge. She looked up quizzically, and Tara just nodded, giving her the okay.

“Well, okay, it was Tara,” she said quickly. There was a harmony of “Aww” and “That’s so cute” around the circle. This made them both laugh.

“Mom was away again, and the brats were at a friend's place. I was just pacing around this empty house doing nothing, it was just one of those nights. So I grabbed a towel and headed out. I think the lake has become our trade mark spot.” She giggled.

“It was so beautiful, and such a hot night, I dived in the water as soon as I got there, well, here. And it turns out that Tara had had a fight with her Dad and had the same idea as me.”

The girls looked sadly at Tara, not knowing she and her father were still having problems. She had stopped talking about it a while ago and they gave up asking.

“I guess we were both in the water, and fairly near to each other. I felt the water starting to move around me when I was still and I panicked. But then I turned around and saw this beautiful blonde hair glowing, and these piercing blue eyes looking straight at mine. And for some reason, I wasn’t scared.” Willow paused for a second to look at Tara and once again she was trapped in her gaze. She clasped Tara’s hand, making small delicate circles with her thumb on her smooth skin, and continued.

‘It was an odd moment, but definitely not a bad one, I think we were staring at each other for like five minutes before one of us looked away. It felt like that long, anyway, and I’d never take it back.” She felt Tara squeeze her hand and she smiled.

“Yeah, yeah, get to the good stuff,” Teeny teased.

“Well, there was this moment where I think I finally breathed for the first time since I had laid eyes on her, and we both sort of instinctively moved towards each other, and… that was my first kiss,” Willow finished with a whisper, feeling a little embarrassed and moved as she remembered the night.

“That’s when reality came back to both of us. We were sitting in a lake, at probably 2am, kissing a total stranger, not to mention she was a girl. I swam away," Tara said.

“I was totally dazed. I thought you were a mermaid." Willow giggled. “Or that I had been knocked out and was dreaming or something. But no, it was real. I watched her disappear into the woods. But being the persistent thing I am, I went there every night from then on, hoping she would come back, and she did.” Willow glanced at Tara and her eyes were immediately trapped by an intense gaze. She had never seen Tara look at her like that before, with such… lust? No…

The group looked on, watching one of the sickliest sweet moments before their eyes.

Tara stood up, feeling the eyes laid on both of them, and pulled on Willow’s hand to encourage her to do the same.

“We are going to go for a few minutes and… talk.” Tara practically ran off with Willow tailing her, looking baffled.

“Yeah, talk…” Willow said as she was pulled into the darkness of the trees.

“Wow, I wonder what they need to talk about,” Chrissy said innocently.

The group looked at Chrissy in disbelief. A few seconds passed.

“Oh!”

“There it is,” Buffy said as Chrissy’s eyes grew two times their size in revelation.

“They can’t do that! It’s dark and scary! And..."

Roberta interrupted her, ignoring the horrified look on her friend's face. “Next question! Xander, you go.”

Dibs! Hooray we have an update!!!

Poor Xander telling embarassing stories with all the girls! And your characters are so true to story. I totally buy all of them interacting in this way. How cute that Willow and Tara's first kiss was in the lake when they didn't know who each other were. LOL. That would be rather awkward I think. But if I saw either of them swimming in the lake at night I would gladly go over and kiss them both. In fact, if you ever want to recreate that scene let me know and I'll kiss Tara for you. Or run off into the dark woods with her!

I can't wait for the next update! This one rocks!

What a lovely update. You made my heart all warm.
These girls are just too cute for words.
I hope you update soon, 'cause I really wanna read what they're going to 'talk' about. Although I do have a feeling that they will actually talk, am I wrong?
Thanks for the update. :-D

I love the update.
The description of the first kiss was so sweet and willow going back to the lake every night after that, it's just so cute.

Please update soon.

YAY! Update.

Still no Faith *g*

I liked how you put the events of the film in.

Cheissy was sooo... Chrissy in this one. Really good. I could totally see that happen.

Awww... "I thought you were a mermaid" - that's so romantic :x That line really brings across the 'touch of magic' feel to the first kiss. Was that soemthing from the film, originally with other characters, or did you make the whole lake/mermaid scenario up? (If the latter, go you! :bow )

Guppy: Thanks dudette, i think it's Xander's luck hanging out with a bunch of girls to have all his terrible elementary school stories confessed :-p

Kaia: Oh who knows only time will tell! :-D

Will: Glad you liked it, update should be up shortly

Insanity:
Sorry about the lack of Faith once again, she will have her place in the story soon enough, hang in there! :lol

Artemis: Indeed it was the latter, it wasn't in the movie, i had this whole image thing going on in my wee head of a hazy dark moon lit lake and Tara suddenly appearing...i guess 'mermaid' was the first thing that came to my head. :glasses

Thanks for the great feed back kittens!

Re: Changing Indiana *20/01 The Beginning

The group of Shelbyville and Greenfield teenagers had spent the last few weeks of their summer vacation together. Now they were inseparable. Teeny had spent the majority of her time latching onto Xander’s arm and Sam and Roberta had grown to really enjoy Willow’s company, much to Tara’s relief. If Roberta hadn't liked Willow, it would have changed the friendship dynamic. She had even given Tara the heads up a few times when the gang were coming back to the tree house - just enough time for the entangled girls to pull apart and look semi-decent.

Adjustments to the couple had taken its toll on the group at the beginning. Chrissy was struggling with the concept of two girls being in a relationship, and a talk with her mother hadn’t helped anything.

“Mom, why do some girls like girls instead of, you know, boys?”

Chrissy’s mother’s eyes widened as she spun around from the sink to face her daughter.

“Chrissy, are you trying to tell me something?”

“No, Mom, I just heard something in, uh, a movie,” Chrissy replied.

“Oh, well, because… because they haven’t found the right man yet, Chrissy, that’s why,” her mother said.

“Oh, okay.”

“I don’t want you seeing that movie again,” her mother finished sharply.

Chrissy was completely puzzled by her mother. Tara sure didn’t look like she was waiting for a guy every time she was caught in a lip-lock with Willow.

Other than that, the tribes had merged successfully. The whole experience had encouraged the teenagers to support each other more so within the outside word. They stuck together like glue and had beaten the Wormers at a few come-back challenges over some weeks. Sam prided herself in these events and placed a few more memorabilia items on her shelf. The first was a ripped baseball the Wormers had invested in, signed by some famous ball player.

“Babe... Ruth?” What a weird name, Sam thought. Probably wasn’t worth much.

She placed it carefully above her bed, remembering the beautiful day when they had sabotaged the Wormers' baseball game with the other local boys. The next item was a piece of Scott’s ripped shirt with a bit of blood on it, from where she had punched him in the nose. It was his own fault for having a cheap shirt, she thought to herself. It had practically fallen apart when she grabbed hold of him and pushed him on the grass. Sam’s eyes gleamed at the shelf, which was now filling up with her trophies of sabotage. She wondered if it was getting a tad sadistic.

Luckily, Willow’s twin brothers had found new friends in Roberta’s younger siblings. It was a relief to both girls to have their younger brothers occupied while they spent the majority of the summer away from their homes. It was good for them, Willow thought. The boys had been asking more questions about their parents whereabouts, and she hadn’t the heart to tell them they weren’t coming back until school had started. It seemed, however, that they were content with their sister’s excuses, and were enjoying the freedom of no parents more and more everyday.

With all the extra time at Willow’s empty house, Tara and Willow had been able to spend a lot of time together without the constraints of parents interrupting personal conversations or other activities. Tara’s father hadn’t been home for a while now; he was due back but hadn’t made an appearance. She was relieved for the most part, but she still held a concern for her father despite the man he had become. At the end of the day, she cared for him deeply.

Roberta had been observing all of it; her friends had changed so much over such a short time. Tara was glowing and it was clear why. Roberta couldn’t help but feel total love for Willow and the happiness she was bringing her best friend. She was letting go of the resentful she had held inside about the new partnership, especially after the special night down at Solomon’s lake. She couldn't be spiteful towards such a sweet and honest girl. Willow was definitely a friend she wanted to have.

A pain tugged at her heart on occasion, however. The mysterious stranger - Faith, she called herself - had not been around for a while and it was worrying her. It was her time for romance, she felt, feeling frustrated.

She vented her thoughts to her mother’s picture, as if she was still there. She felt horrible for thinking it, but Tara’s loss gave her some comfort; she wasn’t the only one who had lost a parent, and a mother at that. They could find comfort in each other, and maybe it had been meant to happen that way. They would look after each other with conviction. ‘Maybe,' she thought glumly.

Chapter Twenty
Fly With Me

“Mmm,” Tara sighed, feeling Willow’s hand graze her skin as she passed the hem line of her t-shirt. The two girls were standing in the entrance to Willow's bedroom, about to take advantage of her parents' business trip. They had run off to the house after a day of sunbathing and popsicle slurping in Shelbyville. The coolness of Willow’s room was a relief, as was their time alone together.

Willow threw Tara down on the bed as soon as she shut the door to her room and giggled at the shocked look on her girlfriend's face.

Tara’s smile grew immediately. “You’re gonna pay for that,” she growled.

“Whatever did I do?” Willow asked innocently, the cheeky smile on her face making Tara blush.

Tara sat up and pulled at the bottom of Willow’s shirt, forcing her to fall on top. The both laughed nervously, staring at each other with only inches between them. They were both only half on the bed; Tara’s feet were still touching the floor, and Willow was standing but leaning over Tara.

They continued to stare, feeling their breathing increase against each other's chest. After a moment, Willow placed a soft kiss on Tara’s lips. They stayed in that moment until Tara looked back into Willow’s eyes. Willow saw the smile building on Tara’s face again.

“Let’s get a little more comfortable,” Tara whispered, tickling Willow’s nose with her words.

Willow scooted up without any hesitation, allowing Tara to slide properly onto the bed. Tara rested her head down on the pillow and waited for Willow to come to her.

All of a sudden, Willow felt Tara flinch from beneath her. Tara drew a sharp gasp from her lungs and squinted in pain.

“Baby, what’s wrong?” Willow asked in pure concern, lifting the majority of her weight off Tara.

Tara looked away for a moment, wondering how to tell her. “It-It’s fine…” she said.

Willow gave her a look, obviously needing a better answer. Tara looked away again and felt her eyes welling up slowly. “It’s him, he didn’t mean to…”

“Didn’t mean to what?” Willow sat up in alarm, knowing who Tara was referring to.

“He… oh, Will, please don’t,” Tara said, feeling defeated. Willow’s eyes widened.

“Tara, please.” Tara didn’t respond so Willow, afraid of what he had done, slid her hand slowly up Tara's shirt to reveal more of her stomach.

Tara flinched again, mostly from embarrassment. She felt her cheeks get warmer as Willow gazed at her exposed body.

“Oh, Tara,” Willow said, saddened. She looked down at the bruise on Tara's lower ribs, which was healing. She traced her hands delicately over the wounded skin before leaning down and kissing it.

How could he? How could he damage something so beautiful, Willow wondered. She knew she had to be the strong one. Tara was still silent, and Willow worried about the conflicting emotions that were probably running through her mind. She moved up to the pillows Tara was lying on and stared at Tara, who was facing the other direction. “Tara,” she whispered.

Tara turned her head around to see Willow’s distressed eyes.

Willow saw the tears balancing perfectly underneath Tara's lids, waiting to fall on her cheeks by the next blink. They fell slowly.

Tara closed her eyes, feeling the salt trail down her skin. She breathed in, gaining control of her emotions.

Willow reached across and stroked Tara's soft cheek, not wanting to push anything but curious nonetheless. Tara’s eyes fluttered open slowly, and she seemed calmer.

“Before he left, he was angry and, umm, he pushed me over.” Tara wanted to continue but remembering that night was making her chest hurt Thank God Chrissy had shown up when she did, she thought. She closed her eyes for a second and then carried on. “He saw a photo of you, that I keep under my bed with my mother's treasures.”

Willow felt the sting of guilt run through her. She knew it wasn’t her fault, but she couldn’t help feeling that indirectly she was to blame.

“Please don’t feel guilty,” Tara said immediately, feeling the change of emotion in Willow.

Willow looked down and sighed. “I can’t help it. It’s because of me that he gets angry.”

“So I should never be allowed to love someone because of what he might think?” Tara asked quickly.

“No! Tara, you deserve every inch of love in the world!” Willow almost yelled, her voice then becoming a whisper as she backtracked on what Tara had just said. “You love me?” She asked in disbelief.

Tara flashed the crooked grin that Willow always found so adorable. “Well, I was hoping to make it a more romantic confession, but…”

“Oh, Tara.” Willow leaned over and placed her lips over Tara’s, feeling absolute adoration for her.

Tara reached up and pulled Willow into her, capturing her lips as if it was the last kiss she would ever experience. She opened her mouth, and as though Willow could read her mind she did the same, sucking on her lower lip delicately at first, then teasing her by running her tongue back and forth from the inside to the edge and back again.

Willow slid her leg over Tara’s and pushed her thigh up slowly. Tara moaned in frustration and arousal. She placed her hand on the back of Willow’s neck, making the girl shiver, and pulled her in close so she could cover her mouth with her own. Tara felt Willow's tongue snake in again. She slid her own into the eager mouth, exploring the heat of the dance that their lips were now captured in.

Willow pushed her thigh upwards again, knowing the effect it was having on Tara, who was now pressed underneath her. She felt a small shiver go through Tara's body, making her own arousal rise to twice as much as it was a few seconds earlier. She took the cue and carried on her slow rhythm of pressing against Tara’s heat while sliding her right hand up the side of her chest and back again, being careful not to hurt the girl any more than she had.

Tara was getting frustrated with Willow’s small ministrations. They were driving her crazy with desire, but she knew they couldn’t take it too far, as much as she wanted to. As the mere seconds of Willow’s soft lips sliding down from her lips to her neck passed, her breathing hitched.

Willow kissed along Tara’s jaw and slid her tongue out, grazing the milky skin in small circles. Her eyes fluttered open to see a small movement underneath Tara’s thin shirt. She smiled to herself and pulled away to look Tara in the eyes.

Tara stared back at the deep green pools and attempted to catch her breath. She was aware of her exposed stomach, but the embarrassment was now far gone.

Willow flashed a grin and placed a chaste kiss on Tara’s now full and swollen lips. “You’re cute when you’re flushed.” She giggled and slid off the bed. She stood looking down on her girlfriend, the golden hair spread across the pillows, her arms lying lazily at either side of her, her shirt now just below the edge of her bra, her nipples stretching the light cloth, her legs casually spread and her eyes deep, dark and filled with love and desire. My girlfriend, she thought. She felt an amazing warmth run through her, sharing her absolute appreciation for the beauty spread across her bed.

But her eyes fell back on an image she never wanted to see again, the purple abrasion lying across Tara's stomach.

Tara saw Willow’s face fall, and realized what she was staring at. She pulled her shirt back down again, feeling self-conscious with the change in mood.

Willow lifted her eyes to Tara’s again. “Let’s get out of here,” she said.

“O-Okay.” Tara glanced away and sat up, avoiding Willow’s gaze. She didn’t know what to think, but all she felt was embarrassed and confused.

“No! Tara, I mean… let's leave, for good. Let's leave the Gas Light Edition, Shelbyville - Christ, let's leave Indiana!”

Tara looked up at Willow in shock, unsure of what she was saying.

Willow sat back down on the bed and slid over to Tara’s side, encouraging Tara to turn around so she could explain herself. “I won’t let him touch you ever again. It’s all good and hunky dorey to acknowledge the damage that he does and ignore the pain, but you’ve done it for too long and I’m not going to let you do that anymore. I can’t.” She stressed her last words as if there was no other option.

Tara sighed and looked down. “We can’t just leave. We have nowhere to go, no money, no… nothing,” she said.

“I can make anything out of nothing. Let’s have an adventure, get married in Vegas, buy a car and I’ll learn how to drive! We can work our way around the country, traveling with hippie communes and bikers!”

Willow's eyes gleamed and Tara giggled, knowing Willow had been thinking about this for a while. “It sounds wonderful, but I can’t just leave. My father, he needs me and…”

“And you need him like a horse needs designer boots,” Willow finished.

Tara looked at her with a puzzled look.

“Well, you get my point,” Willow said, blushing.

“If you can prove to me we won’t die in a ditch and it will work out, I-I think, I think maybe I would consider it… but there a lot of issu-"

“Are you serious?” Willow jumped up on her bed, rocking it against the wall with a bang.

Tara laughed at her girlfriend's delight and nodded. “But what about our friends? I don’t know if I could leave them,” she said, becoming serious again.

“What if they wanted to come as well?” Willow asked.

Tara raised an eyebrow.

“We’re sick of this place. I can’t guarantee anything, but I have a feeling they would jump at any opportunity to leave this place in dust," Willow said.

“What about your brothers?”

Willow gulped, feeling immense guilt about what she was about to say. Her voice came out shaky and uncertain. “Mom and Dad will come home soon, they have to. I can leave them at a friend's place until then, and they will be looked after.”

Tara looked doubtful and didn't speak.

“Tara, I will do anything to keep you safe from… him. Tim and Chris will be okay. If anything, they’ll be happy not to have their big sis bossing them around.l” She smiled, hoping to get the same out of Tara.

“Maybe. I don’t want to jump into anything, but I can’t lie; the idea of never seeing this town again makes me feel something, a kind of freedom I haven’t felt since, well, since she… died.”

Willow would have usually given Tara a comforting hug, but her eyes were sparkling, as if for once the memory of her mother didn't make her stomach turn inside out with pain. She squeezed Tara’s arm and gave her a reassuring smile. Tara looked up and stroked Willow's cheek.

“I promise this will be the most amazing thing we have ever done,” Willow said simply.

“I really love you, so much,” Tara said, holding Willow’s eye contact with intensity. “So much,” she whispered again.

Willow felt a tear run down her cheek, before Tara wiped it away with her thumb gracefully.

“You’re amazing,” Willow whispered back, dropping her head in fear of more tears coming. She had never felt so overwhelmed by anyone before. Someone actually loved her. She had never felt those words pierce her heart so heavily before. She felt her chest pull in a breath, her nose started to stuff up and her eyes felt heavy. Oh no, not now, she thought. Her face was stained and puffed and she felt embarrassed for reacting as much as she did, making her laugh to herself before looking up at Tara again. “I feel so stupid,” she said dumbly, wiping away stray tears on her cheeks and sniffing.

Tara smiled, trying to comfort. “Don’t.” It was the first time Tara had felt like the strong one. She knew it was in her, but she had never seen Willow so vulnerable before, and it felt good being able to protect someone else instead of worrying about herself for a change.

Tara lay down on the soft pillows of Willow’s bed and brought Willow down with her, resting her head on her chest. The feeling of Tara’s steady breaths made Willow calm down immediately.

Willow believed Tara had something about her, an energy that made everything so simple sometimes. Right now, Willow really appreciated it. The girls were both asleep within seconds.

Um, Dibs?

Wow. It was so sad to read about Tara and the bruises...and it's interesting that even though she wants to get out of the hell her dad puts her through she has the clarity of mind to realize that they can't just up and leave. Real life does not work that way.
You are sooo mean, we kittens need our vicarious smut. Bring it on already! Hehe...just kidding.
Thanks for the update. I hope you can find time to update soon.

I admire Willow's determination here (even if it is mixed up with some fairly fanciful notions of life on the road :lol ). She's right, as much as Tara's father might need her, he's also abusing her, and she doesn't need him - putting up with it can only go on for so long before she needs to put herself first. I'm glad, even if it is only a maybe, that Tara's made that choice, and Willow helped her do it.

sorry for the delay guys exams over though yay
...ok im taking a risk :-p

here we go.

WARNING: This chapter has has angst slopped on with a cake spoon. :-D

Chapter Twenty-One
Redemption

Tara’ was shaking with excitement, she could barely grab the clothes without fumbling, she placed item by item carefully in the bag so she could fit as much as possible. It would be over soon. All the horror of her home would be gone, just a few more minutes and she could run out of the house and hope to never lay eyes on it again. The blonde turned around to the dresser and opened a draw, she lay out all the items and considered whether to take them all or not. She put her mother’s items to one side, they where definitely going and her neckl- Tara heard the door squeak open slowly, the hairs on the back of her neck stood up knowing who it was. Shit How did he do it again? She always heard his car come in… She pulled her eyes upwards and looked in the mirror, the reflection showed a withered man with dark circles surrounding his eyes, he hadn’t slept again obviously.

“How...” She started but was cut off by a low and grumbling voice.

“I walked” He said bitterly, still catching his breath. She looked down again. She had no idea where he walked from but it wasn’t like she cared right now. Maybe he would just leave and not notice, the bag sitting on her bed she considered. Creases formed on her face as she felt him step further into the room, the loose floor boards creaked underneath his heavy shoes. She looked again seeing his glance fall on the half packed bag but she said nothing.

“What’s this then? Deserting your father?” Tara looked him the eyes; she had had enough of this now. No more. The thought of Willow flowed through her every sense and gave her all the confidence she needed. It was as simple now, Willow had made it clear for her and she was leaving this house, even if it meant walking out that door with broken arms and her clothes soaked in blood. Her Willow would fix her up, and would never let it happen again, just like she had said. She slowly stood up with her mother’s items in her shaking hands and placed them inside the navy blue hold-all. He scoffed at her coolness sending a wave of bourbon breath up her nose. She squinted and turned away to collect the few items left on her dresser.

“Don’t you dare” He said menacingly. Tara fought back a tear; it wasn’t as hard as she thought. He was still in the way of the door. Any second she could give up apologize and sit down for a lecture. But a force beyond her made her hands steady now, reaching for item after item, avoiding the dark mans stare penetrating her back.

“No More” She said.

“No more…” A whisper barely made it out of her lips but it was enough for him to hear. He looked at her in surprise. He was getting angered and frustrated at her inability to look him, but this time it wasn’t about her anxiety.

“Look at me!” He demanded stamping his foot in weak frustration. He steadied himself on the post of her bed in order to keep his balance. Tara still didn’t respond and kept placing her clothing away. She rolled them tight like her mother had taught her on camping trips. She could feel the tears falling down her cheeks now, one by one, this really was the end. She could hear his heavy breathing increasingly unstable and erratic, but he wasn’t moving from his spot by the door. She turned towards him and looked up to see his features soften in pain. His face was twisting in disbelief as if he was trying to form words in the shocked state he was in. He looked into his daughters eyes and saw her determination. He pressed his lips together and felt his eyes welling up again. Why is this happening? He yelled at himself, he had never been like this.. Shouldn’t have had that last beer, then I wouldn’t be acting like such a wimp he cursed in his thoughts.

The truth was in the second of seeing his daughters stare, he saw his wife all over again, the day they where married, Tara was becoming her in everyway and it was getting harder and harder to look at her each day. It was menacing and torturing him, the devil was playing with his mind. He grabbed at his hair not knowing what else to do, rage was fueling up inside him, and he didn’t want to take it out on anyone but himself, beating Tara to a pulp was the only way of hiding the mask of his wife, but every time, the scars healed, the bruises faded and her flawless face returned to haunt him.

The man yelled out, Tara could hear the weakening pain in him knowing he was going to cry if he let himself, but he never did that, the frustrated yell was the signal for the abuse. She had got used to running when she heard that animalistic roar. But her feet where firmly placed on the dusty boards. She looked at her father quizzically wondering what he was going to do next. His eyes met hers again and in disbelief he felt tears falling down his rough cheeks for the first time in years. The both stood in silence, never having experienced this before. Everything was silent.

He was exposed, this was it, the midlife breakdown he had been expecting for years, and not only him. Tara shook her head in anger, and zipped the bag shut.

“All the tears I have shed for her and you expect me to comfort you now? Where were you?!” She said, her voice shaking like a child.

“Where were you?” Tara yelled again through her tears, letting them come down hard against her flesh, running down past her neck, her skin burning from the salt and rage, starring at this empty man who was falling towards the floor. His hands where huddled tightly over his chest in an effort to stop shaking.

”Where…Were YOU!” She screamed at him, the menace in her voice was in full force, her face was red, her eyes swollen and wet.

“Where were you… when she was being lowered …into that god awful ground?“ She followed weakly between tear filled breaths. She cried openly and loudly, it was as if they had gone back in time and all the hurt that was rushing through her body like adrenaline that day of the funeral had come back to haunt the both of them.

“At the kitchen table….with a bottle of that” She pointed sharply at his heavy bourbon breath. It was his turn now, the sound coming out from his chest was like a low rumble of the deepest of earth, building up into a low moan over flat tones and heavy breathing getting higher as he felt the loss of his wife reach in and grab at his lungs. He openly cried towards the floor and felt every word of his daughter slamming into his chest one by one like slabs of concrete.

“I’m sorry...” he mumbled between sobs. He was almost yelling when he could catch his breath in time to apologize one more time. His desperation made Tara fall to the floor with him. Stop Crying! She kept on saying to herself in her head, Stop Apologizing! Stop it Stop it Stop it! But as much as she hated hearing his wavering child like plea’s she wanted to hear those words over and over and over again till the end of the earth.

“I’m sorry…I’m sorry….I’m sorry…” he continued, his voice small now, the words barely understandable. Tara took a deep breath in feeling a calmness fall over the room. She felt her Mother, the true presence of her Mother for the first time in so many years. She gained her balanced and stood at the end of the bed. She picked up the handle of the simple back pack, and looked down at the man at her feet. She stepped passed him and stopped at the edge of the door.

“I Love you…” She whispered and left the room. Hearing his faint apology still wavering through the wooden floor boards, she’d once named her sanctuary.
