Chapter 16.
At the suprise intrusion, Willow and Tara sprang apart on the bed. Willow looked devastated that they'd been caught; as far as she knew Tara didn't want to tell Buffy yet. However, Tara looked completely calm, serene even.
Buffy looked from one girl to another, an uncomprehensible look across her face. Willow opened her mouth as if to speak, but the sound of Tara's voice silenced her.
"Ok Buffy, I know you're dying to speak; so say it!" She tried to bring some humour to the situation.
Buffy stood still, her mouth gaping like a goldfish. Suddenly, she shook her head out of the trance she was in and smiled.
"Don't worry, Willow, you look as if I'm about to hit you with a baseball bat or something! Will, I dont know if Tara told you but I heard you last night; I know you're gay. I just figured out kinda late who 'the girlfriend' was!Tara, I'm sorry I put you in such a horrible position this morning, but you know me; brain not exactly fully functional at that time!" She shrugged her shoulders.
"So...you're not freaked?" Willow asked, for once without her usual stream of willowbabble.
"No, I'm not freaked! For about a second I found it hard to imagine, but now..." she smirked at Tara, who turned several shades of red.
Buffy walked over to the bed and sat down; then turned to each of the girls and hugged them.
"I'm really happy for you both; I'm just kinda wigged that you didn't tell me," she admitted.
"Buffy, there really was nothing to tell, this was our, um, first date," Tara exclaimed.
Buffy giggled softly, "Looked like some first date, way to go Willow!" she joked, while grasping her own breast within her palm. Both of the other girls blushed from head to toe. "But," the blonde continued, "if I've worked all of this out correctly, this all began on vacation. Right?"
Tara and Willow both looked suprised at Buffy's perceptiveness. Despite not working things out initially, she was certainly up to date now. Willow nodded, then said,
"Yep, you're right. The night you got drunk with Xander, and we stayed out, we went out for a walk and..."
"...We kissed, and Willow gave me her number," Tara continued, "but I lost it, and I had no contact with her until she walked into the Espresso pump."
"Wow, thats so romantic, like something from a film!" Buffy gushed.
"Yes, it is," Tara replied, and then leaned infront of Buffy to plant a soft kiss on Willow's lips.
"OK, just 'cos I know doesnt mean I want that happening every second of the day!" Buffy interrupted.
Willow laughed at this, then pulled Tara back to her, kissed her, and said,
"Tough!"
Tara felt so happy; finally she had Willow, and Buffy knew the truth. Maybe now they could have some semblance of a real relationship. There was just one thing...
"Can we not tell Xander yet please?" Willow and Buffy looked at her with questioning expressions.
"Why?" they said in unison. Tara flushed with embarrassment.
"It's just...Xander. If he knows then he's probably going to start thinking of us...in that way. And I don't think Id be very comfortable with that yet."
"That's a fair point!" Buffy said with amusement. Then she stepped away from the bed.
"So, now I have...confirmed my suspicions, I'll be going now to leave you to...it. So, I'll see you guys later?"
Willow and Tara looked at each other coyly, and then nodded to Buffy.
"Enjoy your..well, I was going to say 'date', but I think I'll change that to 'make out session!'" Buffy jested, as she left Tara's room and closed the door behind her.
The two girls looked at each other and burst out laughing.
"That was so embarassing!" Willow managed to get out between snorts of laughter. "I thought she was gonna yell at me for sure!"
"I thought your head was gonna explode, you looked so worried!" Tara joked back.
The laughed died down a little and they looked at each other again. Tara reached out and tucked a strand of red hair behind Willow's ear.
"I'm glad it happened; I wanted to tell her soon anyway." Willow nodded, and then cupped Tara's face in her hands, bringing her face to her own. Their lips met and the kiss was not soft, gentle, like it usually was. It was filled with passion, they were free to have it now; they weren't living a lie. As they began to relax into the kis, a sudden thought occurred to Willow. She pulled back from Tara, remaining close and said simply,
"Lock the door this time!"
