Summary: AU Tara loses people she loves at a young age. Now learning to live with the one person she cannot stand is going to be challenging…until she meet’s another one like her…but can they see eye to eye and help each other through life’s demanding ways…

~Part 5a~ …Somewhere my heart lies

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

The sun was starting to rise. The faint rays peeking through New York scenery saying good morning to the early birds who were up and about, and to those who are just heading for bed.

Willow’s eyes were wide open looking over at the blonde who was nestled snuggled tight against her body. She still couldn’t believe Tara kissed her back, a kiss that lasted for hours. A kiss that just made Willow sore above the clouds. Tucking loose blonde hair behind those cute ears that stick out, she leaned in and kissed Tara gently.

Tara stirred a bit, but only swung her arm around and pulled the red head closer, burying her head in Willow’s neck and kissing it lightly. She let out a sigh and drifted off into another dream state.

Willow couldn’t sleep at all. She turned and was finally stopped by Tara who wrapped a leg around her a little over an hour ago. Part of her just knew that if her old friends found out she were being a softy, she’d be teased endlessly. Sure Willow Rosenberg was a sweet and innocent long ago, sure she never got into any trouble, but now she was different. Or so she thought. Just before she had met Tara, she had a reputation for hassling anyone who looked at her or her friend’s the wrong way. She smoked and she drank here and there, she was all about the rebel child. If her parents didn’t want her, then why should she be good and all lovable…after her parents left, Willow didn’t want someone to fall in love with her then go and leave again. She couldn’t handle it.

Tara felt the same way. Her heart was already way too fragile. The blonde didn’t want to get close to anyone else; she didn’t want anyone to get close to her. She almost accepted the fact that her dad and Karen were gone. She didn’t understand it, but she knew that seeing them again wasn’t going to happen anytime soon. But Tray-Al…every time Tray came up in conversation, her heart would clench, her stomach would get a little weak. They were so close, they shared everything, they were sisters but most of all, they were best friends. She did pray that she’d see her sister again, she held her breath every time the phone rang hoping it was her, she dreamed of her…she also dreamed that one day…Tray would get to meet Willow.

“Willow.” Tara whispered through a sleepy voice.

“I’m here.” Willow turned to face the blonde completely. She smiled when she found Tara’s eyes still closed.

“I miss Tray.” Tara cried quietly. Tears slipped through her closed eyelids and her hands shook a little.

Willow scooted closer leaving them no room between the two of them. Her hand found Tara’s and her other hand wiped the tears away. “I know sweetie.” Her heart hurt for the other girl. “I know.” She whispered.

“Don’t ever leave me ok?” Tara’s voice was barely audible.

Willow swallowed and bit her lip, her hand stroked Tara’s neck and cheek getting Tara to open her eyes to look at her. “Tare…I will never leave you. Not like that baby.” She placed her forehead on Tara’s and nuzzled her nose. “It’s you and me now…just you and me against the evil in this world. I will do my best to protect you ok? I will fight for you in everyway.” Arms wrapped around her smaller frame holding her tighter and felt hot tears fall on her exposed neck. “My God Tara…you do not deserve this much pain. Not you. I wish I could take it all away.” Willow fought the lump that grew in her throat. She refused to cry, she refused to let her emotions take over.

The sun rose bright that morning, the birds sang loudly and the streets were quiet on that Sunday.

Two figures lay in one bed, holding, simply holding onto each other.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Tray-Al looked at herself in the mirror and groaned when she saw a pimple appear on her chin. “Great. That time of the month already...” She whispered to herself throwing her toothbrush in her small bag.

“You too?” Buffy asked walking in the bathroom. “Sorry for barging in…but the door was open and all.”

Tray laughed lightly. “That’s fine, and yes, me too.”

Buffy grumbled and took a spot beside the other blonde in front of the mirror and sink. She took out her brush and cleaned it out before using it. “You have beautiful hair.” She said looking Tray through the reflection of the mirror.

Tray-Al grinned. “Thanks. You do too.”

“Yeah, my mom has great hair, I’m so glad I take after her.” Buffy said.

“My mom…well really, I’m not sure where the blonde comes from.” Tray giggled slightly. “My mother is a dark brunette and so is my dad.”

“Maybe you have another father out there…” Buffy whispered crinkling her eyebrows together.

Tray-Al thought about it for a moment. “Yeah, makes sense. But you should see my sister Tara…her hair is golden blonde, so gorgeous. I doubt Belinda…maybe Belinda would cheat with the same guy…”

“Oh, do you have a picture of her?” Buffy asked smiling.

“Yeah, in my duffle bag.” Tray smiled back. “Let me finish up then I’ll show you.”

“Ok.”

“So I like your friends.”

“You do? Good.” Buffy breathed a sigh relief. “I was afraid you wouldn’t…I mean, you are practically family here now. Mom is registering into the school and you are now boarding and living here.” She turned out of the bathroom with Tray following behind her. “Cordy likes you, and Xander thinks you’re the most adorable girl he’s ever laid eyes on.”

Tray blushed a crimson red. “Well they’re nice people. Really fun to be around.”

Tray rummaged through her duffle bag and pulled out a small photo. “That’s her.” She whispered pointing to a long blonde sitting underneath a big tree with herself laying in Tara’s lap.

“Oh wow.” Buffy looked at it more closely. “I know who you two remind me of…my grandmother when she was young. Wow.”

“We look like your grandmother?”

“Well yeah. Hold on.” Buffy ran to her bedroom and grabbed a small young picture of her grandmother. “See? That’s her.” Buffy came back quickly. She pointed to a young blonde sitting in a boat on a pond.

“That’s so cool.” Tray looked back and forth at the pictures. “Weird, but cool.”

“Well, at least I can say that I have ‘somewhat’ of a sister that looks like my family. Or I should say ‘somewhat’ of two sisters.” Buffy giggled.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Belinda sat in the kitchen reading the newspaper smoking. Her cough was disturbing to Tara and she always cringed when the older woman coughed like crazy. “See…” She whispered to Willow walking down the stairs. “…that is just plain disgusting.”

“Good to know that I disgust you Tare.” Willow joked.

“Not disgust…in fact, you’re quite the opposite really.” Tara grinned and continued to walk down the stairs. “Besides…kissing you last night? It was refreshing.”

“Refreshing? Good. ‘Cause you know, I really did throw my pack of smokes away. Not my lighter or matches though, I am addicted to flames.”

Tara laughed and stopped in the hallway turning around to face Willow. “Flames can be good.” She grinned and found herself pinned to the wall by the red head.

Willow rested her forehead against the blondes and closed her eyes for a brief moment smiling. Opening them she looked into Tara’s blue eyes slowly she moved in and brushed her lips against Tara’s gently before pulling back. “Oh yeah,” She whispered, “Flames are most definitely good.”

Tara smiled shyly and pushed herself of the wall but still pulled Willow into a nice embrace. “How about we get busy moving you…” The blonde looked at Willow a bit sad. “I’ll help you move, but the base…”

“Shhhh.” Willow took a deep breath. “I want to make my own home.” She lifted Tara’s chin up a bit and looked her in the eyes. “And I want to make my place Tara friendly.”

Tara smirked and pulled Willow close again for another brief kiss. “Let’s go fetch us that mattress shall we?”

“We shall.” Willow laughed and followed Tara down into the basement.

“This is my old mattress actually. But when I moved in with my dad, my mom threw it down here. How it got down here and a new one on my old bed…I don’t know.” The blonde sighed and flipped the plastic off the mattress.

“How are we gonna actually sneak it out and carry it all the way to the warehouse?” Willow asked a bit confused.

“Um, easy, see?” Tara pointed to the cellar on the other side of the basement. “I’ll go outside and unlock from there, then there you go. Cellar doors open, mattress comes out…and I have a wagon to pull it in.”

Willow giggled. “A wagon? Tare, I don’t think a wagon will fit this mattress.”

Tara scowled at the red head. “Just trust me ok?”

“I do…I do.” Willow smiled sweetly.

A *wagon* ?? This I have to see :)

The cuddling in bed was sweet and nice... both girls afraid to commit to someone in fear of losing them. Tara missing Tray... yeah Tray has some explaining to do for sure. Willow is going back to being Willow, which is a good thing. A bit though-girl I don't mind, nothing wrong with being protective but the drinking and smoking...yech.

I wonder when Tray or Buffy will figure out Tray is actually Buffy's sister, heh. Should be an interesting scene. Xander liking Tray, well he likes every girl unless proven not-likable, so thats not a huge surprise but maybe he can help Tray be at least somewhat happy again.

Hey Holly,

I got time to read this fic too. I read it last night when i was in bed. I like this one also. It is very cute the way you made them younger. The part where Tray-Al left...I almost cried. :cry Poor Tara...it's like all the people in her life that she love just disappear. :( And the whole thing with Anna being Tray-Al's and Tara's mom...nice little twist there...I would have to say though...it has me thinking now. :smug

Well Holl I hope to see more soon.

Love ya

Holly,

So after a conversation with a mutual friend I decided to start reading this fic. She's a smart gal. I just love this story.

I have to admit I was very curious to see how the CA crowd would weave together with the NY crowd. You've done a fantastic job. I'm enjoying the read very much and was bummed when I reached the last update.

You have a fantastic way of creating the AU world for these two wonderful characters. Keep it up. I look forward to reading more.

No pressure.... just wanted you to know how much I enjoy your brilliant and creative mind.

~Part 5b~ …Somewhere my heart lies

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

“I just think it’s a good idea if we find out why exactly she ran away.” Mr. Summers said quietly in the kitchen around lunchtime.

“Maybe so, but listen,” Anna grabbed his hand. “There is something much bigger going on here. I can’t just tell her that she has to leave. Her and Buffy are friends now. She…in a way, she’s family.”

Mr. Summers sat down at the table and took off his glasses. “I know sweetie, and I don’t want you to ask her to leave, I want to help too, but I’m just saying, maybe we should try and get some more information on her…she’s hurting and we really have no clue why.”

Anna sighed and set down her glass. “You’re right…” She whispered looking out towards the window. < She’s lost, she’s in pain… she’s suffering… and I have to help her, she’s my daughter… >

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

“That took us like…forever.” Willow moaned throwing herself on Tara’s bed.

They had spent their day cleaning out the warehouse, making it at least a little liveable in. Throwing wood and junk out back of the place. Getting the mattress there was interesting, Willow held onto it while Tara pulled the wagon. They did make trips back and forth, so it was a busy day for them.

“Yes well you need that place to be Willow friendly.” Tara smiled, sitting next to where Willow’s body was spread out on the bed, whose face was in the mattress muffling her voice.

Willow turned her head and looked at the blonde, “What about Tara friendly?” She asked.

Tara grinned and stretched herself out beside the red head. “If you want your place Tara friendly.”

“Oh but I do.” Willow rolled onto her side and placed her hand one the small of Tara’s back. “So… I guess I should um… pack my duffle bag and hit the streets huh?”

Tara ducked her head a bit, biting her bottom lip. “You could always… stay here for another night.”

Willow sat up and walked over to the dresser looking in the mirror at her reflection. She never liked the way she looked; her red hair always seemed to be the target of her harassments. Scrunching up her nose, she tucked her long red hair behind her ear. “Tare…what do you think? Should I dye my hair black?”

“Why would you want to dye your hair black? It’s beautiful the colour it is.” Tara frowned slightly, the mood in Willow seemed to have changed suddenly.

“Riiight, carrot top is such a lovely name.” Willow snorted. “Besides, black would totally suit me… don’t you think?”

“Will… you look beautiful the way you are.” Tara sat up and ran her fingers through her own hair. “Why do you want to change that?”

Willow studied herself a bit more before turning back to face the blonde. “First of all, red hair?”

“Yeah, and?” Tara got up and wrapped her arms around the slim waist of Willow. “I happen to love your red hair.” She whispered.

“You do?” Willow asked resting her cheek against Tara’s.

“I do.”

“Well then, maybe I should leave my hair for now.” The red head broke gently from the warm embrace and began to pack her bag. “I know you want me to stay another night Tare… but I should get into the new place before it gets taken.”

Tara nodded silently walking towards the door. “I’ll be down stairs, I’ll tell my mom I’m going to walk you…home.”

Willow watched the blonde disappear out the door before turning out back to the mirror. She ran her fingers through her hair. “I guess I can live with this…for now.”

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Tray-Al peered through each store window as her, Buffy, Cordelia and Xander walked down a bust street in L.A. She smiled when she found the perfect store Tara would love. “You know, Tara would love this place.” She said to whoever was listening.

“She’s into vintage and antique stuff huh.” Xander smiles standing beside the blonde peering in with her.

“Yes, she would’ve dragged me in there by now, making me look at each of the items and clothing.” Tray grinned, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

“We can go in if you like.” The teenage boy said sincerely. “I wouldn’t mind browsing around. I mean, if you want, I’d keep you company while the other girls go off and check out way over priced items.”

Tray-Al loved the way Xander made her feel a part of the group. Even though it’s only been a couple of days, she felt like she belonged. “No, it’s ok. I know where this is now, so I can always check it out later.”

“Ok, cause you know, I really don’t mind. But if you want to go with Buff and Cordy to that ‘Perfection Clothes’ store…” He smiled when Tray bit her bottom lip. She wasn’t that much of a shopping fan to begin with, and she hated over priced clothing.

“Sure, let’s head in here for a bit.” Tray grinned.

“Ladies, Tray and I are going in here for a bit. We’ll catch up with you later.” Xander said to the other girls.

“Great, we can meet at the pizza place for lunch in about an hour.” Buffy waved as she looped arms with Cordelia and headed down the street.

“So tell me about yourself.” Xander casually said as they stepped inside the trendy store.

“Not much to know really, my dad and step-mom were killed in a car accident, my sister is living with my mom back in New York, and I’m here…because I decided that if I did stay in New York… I’d end up going crazy and join a cult or something.”

“Wow, can’t be that bad.” Xander said.

“Oh yeah? That’s only half of it. Besides, I really like it here. Mr. and Mrs. Summers have been so good to me, welcoming with open arms. Plus you know, I wouldn’t have met you or Cordy.” Tray-Al hid her blush a bit behind her hair. She felt a little better knowing that she wasn’t the only one blushing. “And Buffy,” she laughed a little, “She’s just been so nice and wonderful. We stay up at night and talk about stuff, boys, and stuff. Like my sister and I used to do, except she never really talked about boys that much…”

“Can I take you out sometime?” Xander blurted out. He backed off a bit and blinked realizing what he just asked.

Tray looked at him intently, trying to read his expression. “Sure.” She simply said, smiling.

“Really?” The young man asked, blinking again and shaking his head to try and see if he heard right.

“Yes, really.”

Xander smiled proudly. He was ready for rejection, but when Tray said sure, he was completely knocked off his feet. “Great…thank you.”

“No thanks needed. I’m kind of curious to see where you’d take me. Something tells me you’re the romantic type.” Tray-Al smiled and turned to look at a small jewellery box embedded with red ruby’s. “Oh wow, look at this, it’s so pretty,” she looked at the price tag, “and very expensive.”

Xander was in his glory; he had an actual date with a beautiful blonde. He finally gets to use his romantic abilities. “You never know, it could be in the your reach soon.”

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

“Tara?” Belinda called as she heard the front door open. “Where are you going?”

“To walk Willow home, I already told you that earlier.” Tara said with slight annoyance in her voice.

“Right. Be back before dark.”

“Bye Belinda.” Willow yelled. Belinda peeked her head around the kitchen corner and smiled before going back to read the newspaper. “Thanks.” The red head said as her and Tara walked out of the house.

They got across the last bridge before they hit the warehouse. “Are you absolutely sure you want to do this?” Tara asked sincerely.

“It’s going to be new, a new life and challenge for me. I’m absolutely sure.” She stopped and looked at Tara. “Besides, where else am I going to go? There is no way I’m going back to the shelter, I cannot go home because hello, I don’t have a home, and you know I will not over stay my welcome. I mean, thank you for letting me stay with you Tare, I really appreciated that, but I just can’t over stay my welcome, so this place is great.”

Tara sighed and played with the sleeve on Willow’s baggy sweater. “Will, there’s a lot to think about here. Like… do you have money to support yourself?”

“Tara, stop worrying ok? I’ll be fine.” Willow pulled Tara in for a hug before taking her hand and began to walk towards the warehouse.

It was a fairly big place, and they spent the whole day cleaning it up. Now Willow had a bed with sheets and blankets, and a sitting area, and Tara gave her an old stereo that wasn’t being used. Both teenagers were surprised to find that electricity still worked.

“I should go. Are you…” Tara started but Willow’s two fingers covered her mouth.

“Stop that.” The red head smiled and traced the full lips before taking her hand away. “Just…go, I’ll see you around.” She whispered.

“Here, take this,” Tara handed Willow a bundle of cash.

“Whoa, where the hell did you get this?” Willow looked at it more closely.

“M…My mom…kind of. It’s three hundred dollars.”

“What?!?” Willow looked at the blonde with a quizzed look. “Three hundred? Isn’t that a bit much?”

“Yeah, I kind of stole it.” The blondes voice was barely audible.

“You stole this? Tara, isn’t that a bit much for someone not to notice?” Willow’s voice softened a bit and handed the cash back.

“No!” Tara hid her hands behind her back. “Willow, just take it ok? I promise you Belinda won’t notice. I know this. So please…just keep it?”

Willow considered it for a moment. She figured if the blonde did get into any trouble, she’d simply take the blame. “Thanks. I’ll use it wisely.” Willow brushed her lips against Tara’s soft ones. “Now you go home, before you get into trouble and it gets dark.”

Tara looked at Willow and realized the red head had made up her mind and that she will actually be happy living here in the warehouse. “See you around right?”

“Try and get rid of me blondie.” Willow smirked.

Aaaaw.... Tara *really* doesn't want Willow to live in that warehouse does she ? Well, can't say she didn't try to convince Willow otherwise :)

Maybe after a few weeks the authorities will stop looking, why would they keep on looking for a run-away like Willow anyway ? Willow could move back in then, would likely help Tara sleep better as she's a bit worried about how Willow will cope now.

I'm sure Tara will be able to convince Willow not to dye her hair, she just wouldn't be :willow !

Hey Holly, thanks for the update. T&W seem very very infaturated with each other: always a good thing. But Willow seems so stubborn, not willing to stay with Tara or anything. Why do they keep saying "see you around"? That seems like a major understatement. I'd think they'd say "see you tomorrow" "definitely" type stuff. Can't believe Tara would steal the $300 and why the heck does her loser mother have that kind of cash laying around anyway. Kind of worrisome. The california stuff is cute. Maybe Tara & Willow can go out there soon together and live happily after by the sea.

Great update. Debra

~Part 6~ …So This Is How It’s Going To Be

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~**

On the way home from just walking Willow to the warehouse, Tara realized and noticed how things changed so much. She couldn’t believe she was walking home to her mother, of all people. A mother who was trying hard to be a good parent, but Tara knew deep down that Belinda’s recent ways may not last. And if they did, maybe Tara would count herself lucky.

The blonde’s mind kept thinking about her sister, Tray-Al. She wondered where she was, what she was doing, how she was doing. Was Tray happy? Was she safe? Does she regret running away from Tara? Taking a deep breath, Tara opened the front door to her house, “Mom, I’m home. Sorry I’m a little late.” Tara yelled throwing her light coat on the hook, turning on the hallway light. Looking around in her surroundings, Tara noticed the house was empty. Turning on a lamp in the living room, she found a small note on the coffee table.

Tara, I have gone out for a while, shouldn’t be too late, help yourself to anything in the fridge.

Love, Mom

Smiling to herself, Tara made her way to the kitchen, digging out junk foods from the cupboards. Finally settling down in the living room, she popped in an old movie from a box she found deep inside her bedroom closet.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~**

Tray-Al walked into the living room of the Summers and sat down beside Buffy. “So what are we watching tonight?” She asked smiling, beaming.

Buffy swung her legs up underneath her and turned to face her friend. “Xander asked you out.” She said simply smirking.

“Ah…yes, I believe he did, on one date.” Tray blushed a bit.

“You do know you truly made his dream come true.”

“How so?” Tray frowned a bit.

“Well, he’s asked a lot of girls out before, just, he’s more used of getting rejected, so when you said yes, it was like a miracle to him.”

Tray raised an eyebrow at Buffy, “Oh come on, Xander’s a sweetie, he’s cute, and very gentlemen like…he couldn’t have been rejected that bad. You have to give the guy credit.”

Buffy giggled. “Ok, I give him credit, he got the nerve to ask someone as beautiful as yourself, out. And you said yes… wait, you think he’s cute?”

Tray threw a small pillow at Buffy. “Uh huh, but didn’t you think he was cute at one point too?”

“Well yeah, but he’s like my brother now, so that’s just wrong. But Cordy used to go gaga over him, only she never showed it because even though Xander is our best friend, he was never the dating type…according to Cordelia.”

Tray-Al leaned back, resting her head on the back of the couch, smiling to herself, “That’s just to bad…I think Xander has something that you two are going to miss out on.”

Buffy choked on her soda laughing, causing it to spray across the coffee table and the rug.

“Buffy!” Mr. Summers came in the room.

“Oh God, sorry Mr. Summers, it was my fault.” Tray smiled lightly. “Here, I’ll go get a towel.”

“No no, don’t want to interrupt a girlie moment, I’ll go and get one.” Mr. Summers smiled walking back out.

“Ok, Tray, you do realize how wrong that sentence sounded when it came out of your mouth about Xander.” Buffy snickered.

Tray blushed shades of red but managed to keep her cool. “Well you know, it is true…” Both girls burst into a fit of giggles.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~**

Hours passed and fours movies later, there was no sign of Belinda. Tara got up and cleaned her mess, taking her dishes and open wrappers to the kitchen before taking the movie out of the VCR. Just as she was about to call it a night and head to her room, she heard a fumble with keys. She opened the door and there stood her mother with a brunette haired friend struggling to keep their balance.

“Tara!” Belinda shouted as if there were loud music and she was trying to get her voice to reach over the noise. “Darling, this is my friend Christie.” They staggered into the house.

Anger started to build up inside Tara. Never in a million years did she believe that Belinda would change her ways, but she never did think that she’d start her old routine so soon.

“Belinda, your daughter looks just like you.” Christie slurred.

“Hardly.” Tara grumbled slamming the door behind them, causing Belinda and Christie to jump a little.

“My my, aren’t we a little cranky.” Belinda laughed flopping into a chair in the living room.

Tara just shook her head walking to the staircase, walking past Christie she could smell the faint odour of cigarettes and alcohol mixed together.

“I was out, what’s the big deal?” Belinda spit out watching Tara walk away without a word.

Tara turned around and stared at her mother. “Did I ask?” She snapped. “You know what? I’m tired, and I start school in the morning. I’m going to bed.”

Walking into her room, Tara shut the door and sat on her bed, looking outside. Her thoughts immediately turned to Willow, hoping everything was okay with her on her first night alone in a warehouse. “Please keep her safe.” She whispered to the stars.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~**

Willow walked the deserted streets, sure she could be in a warm bed, Tara’s old mattress at that, but she couldn’t sleep. She had to take a look around her surroundings.

“Well what do we have here?” A voice said behind her.

Willow spun around and was face to face with one male and one female. “Who the hell are you?” She asked not even caring that they held pocketknives.

“I believe that would be our question…who the hell are you?” The guy said twirling the knife in his hand, walking closer to the red head.

Willow didn’t even flinch, her feet never moved, she just stood there watching the two strangers approach her. “I’m Fred.” The small woman said rather chirpy.

Willow nodded her head, raising her eyebrows looking at the tall man. “Now that I know Fred, who are you?” She asked again. Approaching the strangers.

“Wouldn’t you like to know.” The man chuckled.

“Spike, just…say your name.” Fred hissed at the bleached blonde.

“Spike?” Willow snorted.

“What? It’s a great name…I gave it to him.” Fred said, wrapping her arm around Spike. “And don’t you just love his English accent? Sexy ain’t it…” She gushed.

“Fred, love, off me now.” Spike shook his arm free. “We’re not a couple, just two friends who…”

“Shag?” Willow pulled out a cigarette, and then threw it behind her knowing Tara wouldn’t be proud.

“So really, what brings you out here, in the middle of the night, you know, it’s dangerous out during the early mornings, and you’re still a baby.” Spike twirled the pocketknife around.

“Please, a baby? I can so kick your ass.” Willow began to walk past the two strangers; she felt a strong hand yank her back, coming face to face with the bleached hair man.

“You just better be careful…wouldn’t want to see you dead in one of these ally’s…trust me, some guys aren’t as nice as Fred and I here, they will take you, and pull you inside out.” Spike whispered to Willow, blue eyes burning in green one. “Got it red?”

Shaking herself free from the guys hold, she smacked his hand. “Don’t call me red…and as if I’d associate with anyone that is merely like the two of you. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m tired, I’m going home.”

Fred ran up to the red head and looped her arm in hers. “Mind if I come? It’s cold out here and Spike won’t let me wear his coat, he looks all sexy and stuff, but he isn’t big with the sharing.”

“I heard that.” Spike caught up to them.

Willow found her arm looped within the strange girls and to the other side of her, the guy walked, looking around at his surroundings. “So, heading back to your flat are we?” He pointed to the abandoned warehouse. He saw Willow look at him in confusion. “What? Don’t look so surprised pet, Fred and I seen you earlier with a cute blonde.”

“Tara.” Willow nodded pulling her arm free from Fred’s grasp. “And I only have one bed, I’m sorry.”

“So, I’ll sleep on the floor, kind of used of it ever since my parents kicked me out. Don’t ask me how I got to New York, when I was kicked out while living in Alabama.” Fred sighed.

Willow stopped and looked at the two new acquaintances in her life. “Promise it’ll only be for tonight?” She asked. “Because I will kick your ass out if not.”

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~**

The next couple of weeks went by so slow for Tara. She never heard from Willow since the day she walked her to the warehouse for her first night. When Tara did walk to catch up with her, Willow was never there, and the doors were always locked.

Rummaging through some old stuff in the basement, Tara came across an old jewellery box. It was her father’s mothers when she was a teenager. She gave it to him to give to his youngest daughter. Tara remembered the day he gave that to her, it was on her eighth birthday. He left a couple of days later, telling her to keep it forever, unless she decided to have children; a daughter.

Tara frowned when she opened the box and found a small bag with white powder stuff in it. She realized that no dust was formed on the jewellery box, or around it, so it had to be recently used. < What on earth…> Finally realizing what it was, she closed her eyes, fighting back the tears, and slammed the box closed. “Of all the nerve.” She whispered.

“Tara?” Belinda called from the front door.

Tara ran upstairs, wiping her face in her hands she found her mother standing in a nice business suit. “Wow, is that you?” She asked, not remembering the last time she had seen her mom dressed up and looking so clean.

“It is.” Belinda spun around. “I just came back from a meeting.”

“Oh…job interview?” Tara asked.

“Not exactly.” Belinda threw her bag in a chair beside the coat hanger. “How is school going?”

“Good I guess.” Tara looked her mother up and down smiling. “So, this…good or bad?”

Belinda laughed a bit nervously, not looking her daughter in the eyes. “Just, went to the rehab centre to clarify that I am now…clean. Alcohol free and everything.” Tara rolled her eyes. “What?”

“Nothing, just…they really bought that? They really believed you?” Tara’s eyebrow rose. “I mean, just out of curiousity, coming home almost every single night, drunk to the core, and sometimes a little burnt out, that clarifies that your clean?”

“That…is none of your business.” Belinda threw her purse in the closet.

“I think it is.” Tara said calmly. “ You see, when I agreed to stay with you, you agreed to clean up your act.”

“Tara, you know you didn’t have a choice really. You would’ve come here any way.”

Tara bit her bottom lip and looked at her mother. “And you wonder why people leave you.” She whispered.

Belinda walked past her daughter into the kitchen. Opening the freezer, she pulled out two TV dinners. “Do you want the chicken or roast?”

“None, I’m not hungry.” Tara started toward her bedroom.

“You have to eat.”

“No…I’ve been eating TV dinners myself for the past two weeks. I’ve had my share.”

Belinda watched Tara disappear up the stairs and heard the door slam. “I think I’ll go with the chicken.” She whispered to herself.
