Chapter One.
*~*May 4th, 1998 Sunnydale Cafeteria*~*
"Don’t open the chest!" But it was already too late; four creatures ran out of the box before anybody could shut it.
"What was that?" A petite blonde yelled.
Everybody in the room looked around the darkened cafeteria, watching carefully for whatever came out of the chest. One of the guards in the room ran to the door trying to get it to open.
"Don’t open the door. We can’t let those things get out," an older gentleman spoke with an English accent.
Before the guard could get the door open though, one of the creatures jumped onto his face. "Get it off! Get it off!" was all he could scream before the spider-like creature killed him; but before the spider could release itself from the dead guard’s face, a black-haired woman raced over and ran a dagger through the spider killing it instantly.
"One down, three to go. Now, I just need to find where they are." She walked around the cafeteria very carefully with the dual task of not getting too close to the group of people across the room and at the same time to not be attacked by one of those creatures.
Across the room, Buffy watched as the dark haired woman walked around the room. Noticing that she left the chest unprotected sitting on the table, Buffy turned to tell a dark-haired man her idea.
"Angel, you get the chest before Faith notices she left it there," she whispered.
"Are you sure Buffy? She could do something stupid when she finds out we took it," Angel replied.
"Just get the chest and I’ll try to distract her from doing anything." Buffy started to walk away before he could reject the plan. Seeing a spider on the floor, she started to run and grabbed the creature, tossing it at the Mayor's face which sent him flailing into the table behind him.
"Angel… now," Buffy yelled.
This got Faith’s attention. She turned to see Angel running towards the chest, but caring more about the fact that her boss had a spider on his head, Faith ran as fast as she could to the Mayor. The Mayor struggled to rip the spider off his face. Once he succeeded, his face was all bloody but the skin slowly started to heal and the blood disappeared.
"Are you okay?" Faith asked, worried.
With a quick glance around him, he noticed Angel with the chest. Looking back at Faith, he said through gritted teeth, "They have the chest. Do something! Now!"
Knowing she would not be able to take on Buffy and Angel alone, she thought of a plan as fast as she could. Seeing Willow close by, she knew what would make them drop the chest immediately. Grabbing Willow from behind, Faith stabbed her with her dagger, the tip sticking out of the front of Willows shirt which was growing darker by the moment from all the blood. Pulling the knife out, Faith ran back over to the Mayor who was already holding the chest securely in his hands having had the opportunity to take it from Angel’s grasp as he scrambled to get to Willow before she hits the floor. Xander and Oz got to Willow first and were cradling her and calling her name trying to get her to wake up.
"Well, it didn’t have to end this way. All we wanted was the chest and Willow didn’t have to get hurt, but, oh well, it looks like it turned out in my favor," the Mayor said with an evil laugh. The Mayor and Faith both turned and walked out of the cafeteria, but just then, Faith caught something out of the corner of her eye on the wall. Seeing it was a spider, Faith threw her dagger pinning the creature to the wall dead.
"Let’s go, Faith," the Mayor said calmly. The two left the room leaving the bleeding witch to her friends to deal with it.
