An interesting new woman arrives in Sunnydale, bringing with her some news that will change Willow and Taras lives, as well as those of the Scoobies forever!!

Slamming the front door loudly behind her, Buffy crossed to her couch and sat down heavily. Patrol had been eventful and hadn’t been helped by Spikes arrival. His puppy eyes and efforts to help her had almost gotten them both killed when a Jassop demon had appeared, its long claws dripping some strange and unpleasant smelling substance. Standing at almost nine feet tall, the Jassop had picked Spike up easily and thrown him almost clear across the cemetery before turning its attention to Buffy who, after dodging the vicious looking talons had finally managed to decapitate it. Unfortunately, the demon, in its 9 foot, 700pound capacity had just dropped to the floor and laid there, oozing various coloured fluids and smelling pretty awful. Spike had returned from where he had landed and helped her bury it.
Willow appeared from the dining room, earphones plugged firmly into her ears and her head nodding rhythmically. As she turned towards the stairs, she paused having apparently forgotten something and stepped into the living room, only looking up when she reached the coffee table. “Holy smokes Buffy!” she squealed, removing the small white earpieces and resting her hand over her chest. “You scared me! Why are you sitting in the dark anyway?” she asked, perching delicately on the edge of the table and regarding her friend carefully.
“Well, y’know, just got in, covered in demon goo and smelling like a doublemeat medley!” Buffy sighed, the trials of the night clear in her voice. “Didn’t really think I needed to add ‘looking awful’ into the mix so I figured, sit in the dark and I won’t be able to see!” she smiled softly.
Willow giggled softly. “You look fine!” she whispered, careful not to raise her voice so as not to wake Dawn or Tara, “but you do smell pretty…. Well..” her voice trailed off as she searched for any word other than ‘repulsive’. “Interesting?!” she offered eventually.
Buffy rolled her eyes and grudgingly got up from the couch. “I’m gonna show and turn in.” she sighed, “Best to get demon bits out of your hair before replacing them with mew ones!” she giggled softly as she started climbing the stairs. “G’night Will!” she called over her shoulder.
“Night Buffy.” the redhead replied and headed back into the dining room to finish her project.
As the sun rose high over Sunnydale, Tara was the first to wake. Rolling over carefully, she smiled as Willow mumbled in her sleep. Brushing her stunning red hair back behind one ear, Tara kissed the sleeping witch’s cheek before slipping from the comfort of the bed and heading downstairs to make a start on breakfast.
With a bowl of cereal and a glass of fresh orange juice, she ate breakfast in silence, nothing but the gentle rustle of wind through the tree to keep her company!
“Morning Tara!!!” Dawn bounced into the kitchen, a broad smile lighting up her face as she fixed herself a glass of juice and joined Tara at the breakfast bar.
“Good morning Dawnie.” Tara replied, “Did you sleep well?”
Dawn shrugged, “Y’know, with my eyes closed as always!” she giggled cheekily.
Tara rolled her eyes but found herself joining in with the teenagers infectious laughter. “Pancakes?” she asked once her giggles had subsided.
Still giggling, Dawn nodded and finished off her juice in one go. “Funny shapes or rounds?” Tara asked as she mixed the pancake batter in a large bowl.
“Heart shapes!” Willow announced as she wrapped her arms around the blondes waist and kissed her neck fondly.
Both Tara and Dawn jumped, in their comfortable morning banter, neither had noticed Willows arrival. “Wow, jumpy today!” Willow giggled as she pulled back from her impromptu embrace with her girlfriend.
Fetching herself a glass from the cupboard, Willow poured herself a glass of juice and sat next to Dawn. Buffy arrived in the kitchen with the paper under one arm and her hair messed up. “Morning all!” she greeted the room with a somewhat bleary expression, her voice heavy with sleep.
“Morning!” the others greeted her in unison.
Almost as soon as she’d taken a seat, Tara placed a huge plate of pancakes in front of both Buffy and Dawn, before setting about trying to manipulate the mixture into heart shapes for her beloved.
With the ‘breakfast and bathroom fiasco’ now over, the women all burst from the house simultaneously, some heading out to work, some to school, the rest to university.
Walking hand in hand towards campus, Willow and Tara chatted about their classes, magic, the strangeness of a large hedge they had passed on the way to stop for a quick coffee, both content in themselves and their relationship and generally happy at the hand life had dealt them.
As they approached the campus, they headed off their separate ways for class, Tara reaching her building first and disappearing inside. Willow continued on to the science block, whistling cheerfully as she went.
Taking a short cut through the abandoned and somewhat derelict ‘Ancient Languages’ building, Willow failed to notice the tall and menacing form of an as yet unknown demon loitering in the darkest shadows of the longest corridor. She also failed to notice it sniff the air as she passed and grin wildly as it picked up her scent on the breeze. As Willow left the building via a broken window that either no one had noticed or didn’t care enough to mend, the demon stepped from the shadows, the dust filled light speckling its semi reptilian face, highlighting the shades of deep blues and greens within its complexion.
For the Scooby gang, the day seemed to fly by. Even Giles who had been shut in the Magic Box all day with Anya doing inventory had enjoyed his day, usually any time spent solely with Anya seemed like an eternity, and he was pleasantly surprised to find he had enjoyed himself.
Willow, Tara and Buffy all met up at the Espresso Pump shortly after their shifts and extra curricular activities had finished. Dawn had made plans to go away with Janice and her family for the weekend and had left straight from school.
“So, pizza and a movie or Bronzing ‘til daybreak?” Buffy asked as they reached the bottoms of their second cups of coffee.
“I'm thinking some good old fashioned dancing could be in order!” Willow grinned, turning her focus to Tara who nodded heartily in agreement. Buffy cheered and threw her hands in the air, knocking the sugar dispenser and her coffee cup over with the wild gesture.
”Slayer stealthy!” Tara whispered as she righted the containers and fought to suppress a giggle. Buffy joined in her giggle, blushing deeply as she wiped up the last bits of spilt coffee.
Deciding that maybe Buffy's slayer stealth didn’t apply to non lethal beverages, the women collected their things and headed back home to prepare for their night out.
Lost in their conversations about what to wear for the evening, no one, not even Buffy with her demon sensing abilities noticed the huge demon that shimmered in and out of the shadows, its skin the perfect colour to hide in the dark. With its nose twitching furiously, the demon snarled slightly as Willow walked away. It knew somehow that she was missing something vital, something it needed, the very reason it had been sent to Sunnydale. The individual scent of each woman had suffused it with information and it knew that Buffy was naturally dangerous, the other blonde, while full of white magick, posed no threat to it at all but also lacked anything useful. Willow bore the very faintest aroma of what it wanted.
Slipping from the shadows, the demon glided regally through the night in pursuit of the woman with the angelic aroma making absolute certain not to be seen as the group and their unseen stalker turned into Revello Drive.
Once it was sure everyone was tucked up safely in their beds, the demon circled the house slowly, apparently looking for something. Glancing up at the open window to the room that Willow and Tara shared, it sniffed the tree carefully before moving to the honeysuckled covered trellis and sniffing around that. Other than a serious bout of demon sneezing, it smelt nothing that it needed.
Growling softly, the demon turned and slunk off into the shadows in a desperate search for its next meal.
