Re: The Amulet of St. James Chapter 3

Postby AntigoneUnbound » Fri Jan 10, 2003 1:23 am

Toni--Great update, girl! I really like this AU setting, the way it lets us envision our gang (and most especially our girls!) in a new way. At the same time, there's enough of their essential styles carried over that we recognize them and respond to them. (I, in particular, respond to Tara. But that's not really the point of this note.)

And now, of course, you've got me quite worried about this very tenacious evil that's pursuing Tara. The image of the writing on the blackboard, complete w/ horrific visage, was nicely done. Now--am I just being dense, or did I read it correctly that the teacher's back was turned to the board? The question, of course being: Does the teacher know what's going on? She certainly seems malicious enough. (How could anyone be mean to Tara? I mean, she's Tara, for heaven's sake!)

I also really enjoy the Welsh touches here. Kudos to you for incorporating that into your story. It lends a very impressive air of realism to the mystical aspect of your story.

I'm really enjoying this, Toni! Can't wait to read more.

Lovely update, wonder what that book is all about.

Can't wait for Tara and Willow to meet again :)

Pen: Actually I think a little history has gotten me inspired. I'm not sure if Willow will be able to help Tara with her magic issues this time 'round ;) But you never know...

Mary: Yep, you read right. Lady Snick-a-lot's back was turned to the board. I was tempted to have her get eaten up but, yanno, it sounded too Indiana Jones-ish :lol You write the coolest feedback....Don't worry, Tara isn't going to get roughed up by the Big Bad (well, not too much). I did far more research for this next chapter coming than I had ever imagined I would, mostly since I'm going to attempt to incorporate actual history into it. Should be interesting to see if I get it right :grin Thanks for the vote of confidence! :blush

Little M: It takes so little, doesn't it? :eyebrow :whistle

hmmm... I'm tempted to run that last non-english line through a translator. Though I assume Willow will likely try to translate it herself as well, being miss. Science and all :)

She really should NOT say things out loud she doesn't understand though, bad things can happen if you do. Ask Xander, heh.

Poor Tara seems to be on the run from something evil. Why on earth she would run to Sunnydale a.k.a. 'Hellmouth Central' is a mystery to me. If anything that puts her in more danger :( Having established that running doesn't seem to work lets try destroying it this time around... Buffy should like that idea :)

I wonder how long Willow will be able to wait before using the book excuse to talk to Tara gain :)

(edited to add 'not' somewhere :blush )

Grim: You make some good points. Actually, I meant to post the translation of the title alongside but forgot to. However, I now think it might be a good reason for Willow to make a visit to a certain for some "translation"....you never know who she might turn to ;)

You can run it through a translator if you wish....they aren't as hard to find as I thought they would be.

I probably should mention that Sunnydale isn't necessarily the Hellmouth in this fic. While it still is a source of mystical goings on, I've refrained from using its Hellmouth status here....it would make the coming story just way too complicated and it's going to get convoluted enough with the next three chapters.

Thanks for your comments, Grimmy. You always keep me thinking and on my toes.

Cheers!

Toni

All caught up with this now. I think what's interesting for me is the unfamiliar setting and how you manage to create that whole atmosphere but with familiar characters. The Scoobies are recogniseable enough for the reader to have a sense of place within the story. That's quite a clever device you've used there.

The premise of the story is intriguing enough and I like how you've plunged right in with the tension and the plot. Love how Willow is already crushing on Tara; that's so cute.

Looking forward to more. :)

Hmm, Welsh, of a sort.

Coud'nt quite square up with the translations tho' ;) not that it matters one iota.

Enjoyed the story, looking forward to more. The standard of fic writing just gets better.

Lucky we're talking California, if it were set in the Uk we would have cold showers, beatings by the seniors and, Xander wandering around looking for his 'Fag'. Heh. :

PS Kieli I emailed you direct, OK?

Wow. Kittens talking about me. Now there's a thing.

Am I like Giles, well not really. I'm not as tall, and I'm wider, and I probably look more like Bill Oddie. Which Ruth may be able to visualise but the US kittens will be lost. :hmm

Ruth, these mail-order husbands can be so ver disappointing :

But I do wear glasses, which I take off and clean, just like Giles. And I am kinda studious, sometimes.

I really like how you've set Tara up as being mysterious but non-threatening as we see how wistful she gets as she sees Willow and Buffy, and how upset she becomes.

Most intriguing. Looking forward to more from you.

Just caught up on this story and had to write to say how much I'm enjoying it.

The premise of the story in itself is interesting and particularly nice, as a Swansea girl, to see Welsh being used.

It's a difficult language to get right but the effort of trying at all is much appreciated.

Thanks.
