Chapter 4....Part 2: Hush if You're a Wiccan.
They came in the night, The Gentlemen. They came overtaking the town, stealing voices from quiet slumber. There were no screams, no cries for help, no means of protest. The Gentlemen had come to call, bringing with them terror and an eerie blanket of silence.
Willow woke, it took some time before she realized the horrible loss, she had no voice. When Willow finally discovered this terrible fact her first thought was of Tara.
'Tara,' she thought 'oh Tara.' Willow reached out with her heart and with her mind. She waited hoping she could feel it, feel Tara safe across campus tucked securely in her dorm room. It took a moment but the feeling came and Willow relaxed knowing Tara was well.
Quiet in her room Tara was still in her bed. 'Willow?...Willow?' Tara sat up feeling Willow near creating a thin thread of communication between them. She relaxed quickly also feeling that Willow too was okay. Perhaps she was just thinking of her. Tara did not yet know why Willow had come to visit.
Willow washed and dressed quickly. She knew that she would be needed at Giles'. Taking a yogurt and an apple from the small refrigerator she rushed to her destination. She wanted to find Tara. She wanted to reassure her but could not take the time now. She comforted herself in knowing that Tara was safe and well. She knew that the most important thing she could do right now was to try to help cure the plague of silence enfolding the town.
Tara returned from the bathroom finally understanding why Willow had reached out to her. She closed the door to her room and tried to say the name aloud. 'Willow' she thought trying to speak. The word was dead in her mouth, empty on her breath. Tara put down her toiletries and headed for her books. Pulling out several of her mother's best volumes she laid them out on the bed hoping to find a solution.
The day passed and night had come again. Willow had worked with the Scoobies all day trying to solve the mystery of the quiet. There had been deaths, hearts stolen, removed without complaint. This was very dangerous, they knew that it must be ended quickly.
Willow returned to her dorm room. She wanted to go to Tara, to see her, to touch her, to protect her from the frightening stillness. It was too dangerous though and she needed to be available to Buffy and the others. Buffy was out in the night stalking the evil beings who were undoubtedly searching for other victims. All Willow could do was wait, wait and pray that all would be safe, that Tara would be safe.
Tara was searching the directory, she had to find Willow. She thought perhaps that they could do a spell to reverse the absence of voice. She had worked feverishly all day looking for possible magics to do the job. She had no idea if they would work especially if they could not do the incantations aloud but is was worth a try.
Tara found the location of Willow's dorm room and slipped out into the night cradling her mother's books tightly to her breasts. It was not long before she realized the source of the towns problem, the problem had found her. The Gentlemen and their ghastly minions had found and were pursuing her. Tara had known there was risk, she knew that there was something terribly wrong but she had no idea of the danger. She ran stumbling on towards Willow, seeking safety, seeking refuge.
The creatures were pursuing her, chasing her hungry for her newly found heart. Panicked and frightened Tara fell, dropping the contents of her arms into the street. Painfully she had to leave her books now running for her life. If she could only find Willow, she knew that with Willow there would come safety, she had to find Willow.
Willow woke, she had fallen asleep at her desk. She heard the banging on doors, she felt...'Tara' she gasped, 'my god Tara.' Willow flew from her chair and was through her door into the hall without hesitation. She could feel Tara near, she could feel Tara frightened, she could feel Tara coming. Initially she could not see, she did not see Tara until she was on top of her colliding into her with such a force that it knocked them both to the ground.
'Ow' cried Willow her ankle bending. 'Ohhh' she added quickly realizing in horror what was coming at them.
Tara was up and pulling on her. They needed to run, they needed to find safety. With a strong arm around Willow's waist Tara steered them towards the stairwell. Winding down the stairs with Tara supporting most of Willow's weight they made it to the bottom and into the laundry room. Locking the door each took a breath and began to furiously look around for a way to secure their strong hold.
The monsters had made it to the basement and were beating furiously at the door rattling the knob. Willow knew that it would only be a matter of time before they would break through, they were unrelenting. Willow hobbled to the soda machine and tried unsuccessfully to move it. Even with Tara's help the two did not have enough strength. Pain was shooting up her leg from her ankle and Willow was finding it increasingly more difficult to stand. She threw herself back against one of the washers and sank to the floor.
Willow sat stilling herself for a moment. She was scared, her heart was pounding, the blood was rushing in her ears. She was trying to focus, she had an idea...if only she could focus maybe she could move the machine. Tara was now at her side watching her intently. Willow took a deep breath and gathered everything she had. She threw her energy at the machine making it shake but still it wouldn't move. She gave it all she had and it failed, she sat back feeling hopeless, helpless and discouraged.
Tara watched waiting, she knew what Willow was attempting. She wanted to see what Willow could do. 'Now I can help her' she thought bravely 'I can do this.' Tara reached out and began to entwine Willow's fingers in her own. Willow turned and looked down at the touch. Tara was slowly molding their hands together fusing them. She looked at Tara's face her eyes questioning. 'We can do this' she heard Tara think 'We can do this together.' Tara raised her chin looking Willow dead in the eye, her jaw set. Willow began to feel power, tremendous power, Tara power coursing through her veins, warming her blood. First it rose, climbing into her chest, then it dropped like a stone to her gut. Centering itself the energy was building, growing and growing it took aim like an arrow.
'Focus Willow' she heard Tara direct. Both women took a breath. Willow felt her attention become clear, there was a pathway in her mind leading her straight to the machine. 'Now!' came the command. Both women snapped their heads towards the machine connecting with it and hurling it towards the door. It flew, it flew with a power unmatched by any Willow had ever known, seen, or experienced. As soon as the machine hit the door frame the rattling stopped. The monsters were defeated.
Both women were still, each trying to control their breathing. Desperately grasping at the others hand, neither wanted to let go.
Willow was flushed, her breathing erratic. She had that remarkable feeling of calm coupled with excitement again, that strange dichotomy of feelings that she only had with Tara. Her only sensation was of Tara, she was in her, still moving through her, beating against her heart. Tara was creeping through her body touching every part from her head to her loins. It was warm, it was electric, it was magic, it was Tara. Tara was inside her like a blanket, wrapping her and holding her with her presence. She felt comfort, solace, safety and...love? Was it love, was it love like Willow felt? Willow blinked, she wanted to see. She looked at Tara then she looked at their joined hands. She looked at Tara again trying to read her face hoping that what she felt was true. Willow had never known anything like this, it was all she could do to keep herself from fainting away.
Tara was struggling to regain control over the energies pouring from herself into Willow. She tried to harness her feelings but could not stop, it was like a gate had opened and Tara was flowing through it into Willow, she wanted to give her everything. She had never known that there were feelings like this. She had never dreamed she could feel like this. Willow's power combined with hers was amazing, it was heady and intoxicating. The connection was profound, beautiful, sexual. Tara was aroused, filled with Willow's warmth and light, Tara wanted to give it all back. She wanted to love this woman, she wanted to climb inside and roll around basking in their connection. She had to remind herself to breathe. It was the second time in two days that the idea knocked on her shuttered brain. 'I love her' she thought, 'I want her' she continued her blue eyes darkening. Tara had never wanted anyone...not like this...not with the fever and passion that was slowly kindling in her soul. She could never be that open, she could never be that free, yet with Willow it was so easy. They were somehow already intimate. They were like two parts of the same puzzle meant to be together. Willow and Tara fit.
"I...uh...I...wow!" tried Willow.
Tara nodded her head looking into Willow's eyes.
"I...uh...what...wow." Willow attempted again.
Tara's eyes widened, "Hey, were talking!" she proclaimed with a smile, "hear us...it's our voices."
"Oh...uh...yeah...yeah listen....listen to us....listen...our voices...yay us...yay Buffy...yay!"
"Buffy, what's a Buffy?"
"Uh, oh, never mind I'll tell you later. Hey look at us all talking and everything. Hey look at us all alive and everything." Willow stopped and looked seriously at Tara. "How did you do that?"
Tara blinked and shook her head. "What? Oh, I didn't do that."
"What? Well, you, me, the machine, it moved, it wasn't me, and there are clearly not any elves in here so that leaves you."
Tara was smiling again. "You are forgetting the us equation Willow, it was us, us together. Well, I actually think it was mostly you, I just helped...I gave you some power and I gave you some focus."
"Sure felt like you to me" Willow smiled seductively, "the way you moved inside me...they way you filled me with your power....the way you...." Willow's voice began to trail off as she realized what she was saying and how it sounded. Both women had begun to blush. "I think that you are the powerful one" she was able to squeeze out shyly.
Willow was beat red...the squishy feeling was back. This was not lost on Tara who was feeling squishy too. Willow had squeezed Tara's hand during her wayward speech and that seemed to send a silencing ripple of lust through both of them.
Willow got playful, trying to break the tension. She lifted their joined hands and pointed a tangled accusing finger at Tara. "You are a witch!" she giggled trying to use a funny voice.
"I thought you would never notice" replied Tara slyly. She leaned forward lowering her tone and putting on a serious face. "Hush now, don't you be going and telling those wiccan women, I don't want to be accused of being one of those disempowering stereotypes."
Willow was trying not to laugh. "You don't have to worry about that" she played, "I am not going to be telling them much of anything anymore....say, did you see where I left my broomstick?" she grinned.
Tara was beginning to shake, all the tension, all the fear, all the intensity of the past few hours oozing out in this supreme bout of silliness. "I think that if they ever saw a real witch, they would....um...run away."
"I think they already have" said Willow laughing. "You and me...we were just at the wrong place...with the wrong people. At least they helped us find each other."
"We would have found each other." said Tara definitively suddenly serious again.
"Yes, I know that" said Willow her eyes softening. "But..." her eyes were filling with mischief, she wasn't quite ready to let this go. "But...they are just wiccans...what do you expect. We are witches and they are wiccans...you know members of WICCA....The Women Identified Candle and Cookie Association."
Tara snorted tears forming in her eyes. They both began laughing almost hysterically tickled by Willow's wit.
"That's good!" Tara wheezed her body still shaking.
Willow loved that laugh, she loved to see Tara happy. She squeezed the hand still wrapped in hers, then she paused in reflection. "Gee, look at what we did" she said focusing back on the machine and shaking her head.
"I know" said Tara trying to calm herself, "I know."
"Well I think we make a pretty good team...not getting killed and all."
"Yes, oh yes," replied Tara looking seriously now into Willows eyes. "I especially like the not getting killed part" she exhaled loudly.
Tara took another deep breath, she wanted to say something, say something more in this important moment.....some strange force was driving her on... "I am glad I found you Willow, I mean not just tonight, I mean I am glad I found you in general. You, me, magic, everything. I have been lonely, stuck, I guess kind of lost, but when I am with you I feel..." Tara paused surprised by her openness, "I feel...."
"Found" Willow finished drawing their hands into her lap and covering them with the her other.
"Yes." Tara breathed nodding.
"Me too." said Willow holding tight to Tara's hand. She slid closer pressing her thigh against Tara's elongating their connection. Willow could almost kiss Tara now but it felt too soon. She wanted to, she wanted to badly. She wanted Tara, all of her, every inch, every corner, everything. But there was no taking risks here. This was everything Willow had ever wanted, she was not going to risk it all on impulse. Willow had been stuck too, she had been lonely and lost. She had been feeling incomplete as though part of her was missing. Then there was Tara, her beautiful goddess, come to rescue her. Willow turned their hands so she could stroke Tara's gently.
"I know exactly what you mean" she whispered raising her face to meet Tara's gaze, "exactly".
They both sighed leaning back against the washers. They had found each other and both knew in that moment that they were meant to be together. They fit, together each was complete. They were each parts of their new exciting puzzle. They were each parts of their new exciting life. They fit, and together, they were complete.
