GMT is Greenwich Mean Time. So sorry you couldn't find the fic - things have been too hectic to update lately. Unfortunately this doesn't finish the cliffhanger - but it does resolve some issues.

Now, update!

Part 7a - Judging Willow

Sunnydale Memorial was the only indication that all was not right in Sunnydale. Truth hid behind corners in most places, lurking where they all knew it was but nobody dared to round that corner. Except the Scoobies.

At the hospital, the staff had no choice but to face the danger of the Hellmouth. They saw the influx of victims killed by neck-wounds, and a few even dared to fight the vampires who arrived in synchrony with the new plasma. Even fewer survived. They stayed, though, and they fought the good fight in their own way.

Maybe I should be a doctor, Tara mused as she stared at her hands, examining them in fascination. It’d certainly be a lot safer than her current method of fighting the evil in Sunnydale. She was hunched uncomfortably in a plastic orange chair, the rest of the Scoobies scattered around the crowded waiting room. Giles was standing, occasionally pacing. Tara wasn’t sure if he was avoiding the prospect of sitting – certainly, his long legs wouldn’t fold into a position small enough for that tiny chair – or if he was afraid that he’d miss something if he sat down.

Dawn was curled up, her legs pulled close to her chest as she dozed restlessly, and her head resting on Buffy’s shoulder. Xander and Anya sat either side of the two sisters, each occasionally sending each other an angry glance.

“She’ll be fine, Tara,” Xander said eventually, breaking the silence. “Our Will’s a fighter.”

“Did you ever notice how everyone automatically becomes a fighter when they’re sick?” Buffy asked bitterly. Her mom had been a fighter, but she hadn’t been fine.

Tara’s eyes opened wide, and Buffy caught the expression. “Oh, Tara, I’m sorry,” she apologised guiltily. “I’m being worried-Buffy. Willow will be fine. She’s just been through a lot lately, with everything that happened since you…” Buffy’s voice trailed off, and she shrugged apologetically as she received matching glares from Xander, Anya and Dawn, who had given up on the prospect of sleep.

Raising her head and placing her elbows on her knees, Tara rested her chin in her hands. “I know something big happened while I was gone, Buffy,” she began. “I know that you think Willow should tell me, but please.” It was the only time they’d ever heard Tara sound so desperate, and they all agreed whole-heartedly that they never wanted to hear her sound like that again. “Please, I need to know.”

Giles finally stopped pacing and dropped awkwardly into a chair, scowling as his limbs creaked. They exchanged glances. Buffy was looking at the floor, mentally begging Tara not to ask this of her. Eventually, Dawn cleared her throat, wiping sleep from her eyes, and began to speak.

Tara’s lips parted silently as the teenager continued, not leaving one detail untold. Tears filled both pairs of eyes, neither breaking the steady gaze. Tara’s were falling so fast that her sight of Dawn was obscured. She let them fall.

Once Dawn was finished, and not until every memory was recounted, did Tara cry out. “Oh God,” she gasped, her delicate fingers trembling as she held them out in front of her. Thinking that the hands of her beloved, of her soulmate, had harnessed such power was unbearable. Willow wasn’t a killer. Not now, not ever. It simply wasn’t in her nature. Only, it had to be, because she’d killed, and she’d lived with the guilt afterwards.

Tara stumbled outside, leaning heavily against the brick wall. Buffy had reached out to her as she passed, but Dawn had pulled her sister out of the way, knowing that Tara needed to be alone right now. Bending over, her hands bracing her knees, she vomited once, twice, until she was cold and shaking. Then she turned around and marched back inside with her head held high and no sign of tears on her cheeks.

“Tara,” Dawn called out anxiously as she re-entered the waiting room. Her five friends stood, all somehow knowing that the blonde wiccan’s response would change all of their views – all of their lives.

Shaking her head, Tara looked at them all. Anya, Dawn, Xander, Giles, and finally Buffy. She caught Buffy’s gaze and held it until the grey eyes were boring into her own blue ones. Neither woman looked away.

“I don’t get to judge her,” Tara responded simply, then turned and walked over to her seat to wait for Willow.

I admit that when Dawn started telling Tara I got worried about how she would react. I now know I should have trusted Tara, and her love for Willow.

Great update.

Thanks everyone, especially LadyCallie and mollyig who seem to reply most often, for the replies. I'm sorry, but right now I really don't have the time to write updates and personal replies. When things get a little less hectic, I will try, but I figured you'd prefer updates to personal replies! If someone asks questions about it, then of course I'll reply. For compliments - and don't stop them, please, I love them! - I'll jsut say thank you to you all for them. You know how much they mean to me.

As for Tara's reaction, I thought it would be stronger. I did have this whole scene planned out, and then I re-read the fic and realised what she said to Buffy could really apply. The only one who gets to judge Willow is Willow. They can all be hurt by it, I think, but to me Tara loves Willow so much that she sees angles that the Scoobies never even thought of. Don't think it's over, by the way - not by a long shot!

I only have three lectures tomorrow, so expect an update early afternoon, or evening if the net gets hogged. There'll be one tomorrow, anyway.

I've just realised that I used an awful lot of words for something that I could have said in one paragraph. Maybe WillowBabble is contagious. *scratches head thoughtfully*

Tears In Heaven, Part 8 - The Gift

Postby Miss1234Kitty » Fri Sep 20, 2002 7:30 am

Some people have said that they became confused, as Tara already knew about Willow killing Warren, but some issues were addressed in the last update. However, the others didn’t know that she knew, and Tara didn’t know what Willow had said to them. The reason why she was so shocked was because she was hearing it all from their perspective and the hurt that they had suffered.

Part 8 – The Gift

Standing at the window to Willow’s room, Tara turned abruptly as Buffy touched her on the shoulder. A bespectacled, greying man had approached them, his badge and crisp lab coat clearly displaying his seniority in the ER department.

“You are the relatives of Willow Rosenberg, I take it?” he asked as he approached, glancing briefly at a clipboard. Tara only nodded. They’d learnt long ago that relatives found out far more than friends, and Giles had been uncle to every one of them at some point. “So, you would be…?” he asked Tara, who was nearest to him and clearly most worried about the patient.

She had opened her mouth to reply when Buffy jumped in, only a fraction too quickly. “She’s Danielle Maclay,” she informed the doctor. “I’m Buffy Summers, Dawn Summers, Alexander Harris, Anya Jenkins and Rupert Giles.” Buffy introduced them all in turn, her eyes begging with Tara to follow her lead. Tara nodded in silent acknowledgement, but resolved to find out exactly what her friend was up to.

Giving Buffy a curious look, the doctor nodded politely at each of them and turned his attention back to Tara. “I’m Dr Jefferson, Willow’s doctor. She’s still unconscious but comfortable. We’re running a few basic tests, but providing she comes around soon you can take her home later this evening. Do you have any questions?” Anya opened her mouth, and closed it again as she received a sharp jab in her ribs from Xander.

“No, thank you, Doctor,” Giles replied politely. Nodding, Dr Jefferson turned on his heel, moving with almost inhuman speed down the hallway.

“What was that for?” Anya asked Xander crossly. “As for you, Buffy,” she accused. “Interrupting – hello, rude much? Besides that, if you don’t know Tara’s name isn’t Danielle then you don’t know her very well.”

Buffy opened her mouth to demand of Anya exactly what right she had to be calling anyone rude, and decided that today was bad enough without a fight with Anya. “Xander nudged you because we don’t want to draw attention to ourselves,” she explained patiently. “Besides, we knew everything. He has other patients to attend to. Tara – um, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you’re technically dead. If they find out you’re very much alive, there’s going to be a lot of questions. I don’t think any of us are really up to answering them today.”

“Oh, I see,” Anya commented, slightly disappointed that the Slayer had refused to respond to her insult. “Where did Danielle come from? It’s not exactly a common name, like Joan, for example.” The vengeance demon couldn’t resist that one last jab at Buffy, but she only rolled her eyes.

A small smile started to cross Xander’s face. “Willow’s middle name,” he realised.

Buffy nodded. “It just seemed to – I dunno, fit? Besides, it made sense, and it was the only one that I could come up with on the spur of the moment.”

“Thanks,” Tara told her, preoccupied as she returned to staring through the window, a pensive look on her face as she willed her soulmate to awaken.

***********************************************************************************

“Her hand is cold,” Tara whispered to Buffy. For one terrifying moment, she’d thought that Willow was dead. Only the harsh sounds of the monitors reassured her that Willow was simply resting in the way that she had whilst with her mother.

“Yeah, it is,” Buffy agreed. “Kinda freaky, huh?”

Nodding empathetically, Tara noticed something. “You don’t seem particularly freaked. Willow said you hated hospitals.”

“I do, but I got used to them. You spend your teenage years fighting demons with your friends who are minus Slayer powers, you spend a lot of time in hospitals.” Buffy’s tone was bitter. So many times she’d told herself to get her friends out. Fighting demons was her job, not her friends, and so many of them had lost their lives because of it. So had she, but she’d had a second and third chance. Jenny, Jesse and Kendra had all lost their lives because of what she did. So had Tara, but Tara was here, now.

“I guess,” Tara agreed absent-mindedly, returning her attention to Willow. Their hands were clasped together, and she was massaging Willowhand with her thumb, revelling in the touch of her lover’s skin.

A cough from the door brought their attention to the doctor, who was making notes on his clipboard and glancing at Willow occasionally.

“Sorry,” Tara whispered, clambering to her feet and shaking out her skirt. Buffy followed suit, and they both left the room, looking over their shoulders at their silent friend. “Did you get the test results back?” Tara asked breathlessly as they stepped into the hallway, closing the door quietly behind her so they wouldn’t disturb Dawn. The youngest Summers had claimed the chair by Willow’s bed and curled up in it, resting her head on Willow’s pillow.

“We ran several tests,” the doctor began, and Buffy’s heart sank. She’d heard this speech too many times. “Every one of them came up clear. She’s not sick. However, her symptoms all pointed to one thing, and I ran a few extra tests. Usually I’m not allowed to do so without the patient’s permission, but as she is still unconscious, I did what I thought best under the circumstances.”

He’s not telling us anything, Tara thought in frustration. Evidently Buffy agreed, because she was asking the doctor impatiently exactly what he was talking about.

“The test came back positive,” Dr Jefferson informed them with a smile. For a moment, Tara felt her heart stop beating. “I don’t believe Miss Rosenberg is aware of this yet, but she’s pregnant. Six weeks, to be exact. Congratulations to all of you,” he told them as Anya, Xander, Giles and a sleepy Dawn emerged seemingly out of nowhere.

Dawn’s mouth dropped open, as did her sister’s. Tara only smiled. Somewhere inside her, she knew she should be shocked. All she could hear, though was the Elder saying,

“You and Willow have been graced with a precious gift, Tara.”

I thought it was sweet that Danielle was the first name Buffy could think of to call Tara.

Tara referring to Buffy's hatred of hospitals, I'm sure they're not her favourite place either, but its typical of her to worry about someone else.

When the Doctor started talking about tests, I got excited. I loved Tara's reaction, the calm acceptance of it. But I'm sure the Scoobs are gonna have questions. Hopefully they won't upset our girls.

Thanks.

It's brilliant to have such lovely replies - thank you all. I'm thrilled that you're all surprised - I was a bit afraid that the on-off sickness would give it away as well as Delyth's slip. Then again, as I wrote it, I guess I cheated a little. *Looks sheepish*

LadyCallie, I'm thrilled that you've got your girlfriend reading this - when am I gonna get a reply from her? Just kidding. She can be a lurker if she likes. As for hyper 7 year olds, you really don't know what they're like until you've had cold water thrown on you at 4am by your best friend's little bratty brother and his mates. Grrr. Hence the lack of posting last night - I was being woken up by their cockerels and brothers.

Willow will wake up soon, I promise. There will be an update sometime soon as well - POSSIBLY tonight. I say possibly, though. If there is an update, it will be a mini-one, so don't get too excited.

Someone told me about Eric Clapton, I think it was 'Justastraightdog'? Thank you so much for that information, I didn't know that. I'll add it to the intro later on. I just found the song - I can't even remember where - just after Tara died, and it fitted perfectly. Then I decided that she wasn't in Heaven, so it kinda messed up. Oops. Oh well, it's still a lovely song and I plan on using another of his in the sequel.

Thanks again, everyone, and bye! *Walks offstage waving and promptly falls down the steps*. Clumsy oaf.

Tears In Heaven, Part 8a - The Gift

Postby Miss1234Kitty » Wed Sep 25, 2002 1:22 pm

LadyCallie and Eccentrictulip, thanks for your replies. LC - Angelic girls? I'm afraid the only girl I get to babysit for is 4evaWill, and I think she's a bit beyond being called a baby now. Not that she was angelic - and I can get away with saying that as she doesn't visit this thread. Just kidding, hon. As for the pregnancy thing, I've only read two fics where Will's pregnant and half a dozen where Tara is. So I just decided to write my own.

Here's the update! Enjoy!

Part 8b – The Gift

“Hey beautiful,” Willow whispered as Tara awoke, blearily blinking sleep from her bright blue eyes. The redhead gazed up at her girlfriend in disbelief, unable to believe that someone this perfect could exist, and had chosen her as the one to spend the rest of her life with. Sure, Willow knew Tara had her faults. Somehow, though, they always seemed to make her love the blonde more.

Tara sat up in her uncomfortable seat and smiled down at Willow, taking her lover’s hand and grasping it between her own. “Hey beautiful yourself,” she responded, well aware that the sentence was lacking in structure or even sense, but also knowing that Willow would understand whatever she wanted to say. “You gave us quite a scare.”

“Sorry,” Willow said sheepishly. “Scared myself, too. Is everything okay?” She gave a little yawn as she stretched her unused, and therefore sore, back muscles. Tara didn’t look too upset, so Willow correctly assumed that nothing was terribly wrong.

The blue eyes widened. “Oh.”

Willow sat bolt upright. “Oh? What does that mean?” The room spun abruptly, and she gave a small whimper. “Remind me not to do that again.”

“Here, lie back,” Tara told her, fluffing the thin pillow professionally. Placing a hand gently on Willow’s chest, she pushed her back firmly when the redhead seemed ready to argue. “Sssh, it’s okay. Nothing’s wrong. You need to rest, Will, and then we’ll talk some more, okay?”

“Talk?” Willow asked, panicking as she sat up again despite Tara’s protests. “No! See, talking is bad because it’s really serious. If we’re gonna talk, then we have to talk now when I know we’re going to talk, otherwise I’ll get all scared and that would be bad, so really we have to talk now. Tara? Please can we talk now before I start getting non-talky and panicky?”

“As opposed to the panicky that you are now?” Tara asked dryly once she had digested the babble.

Willow frowned. “Huh?”

“Never mind. Will, you’re really tired. If you want to talk now, then we will, but you have to promise that you’ll go to sleep straight afterwards. No visits from Dawn, or Buffy, or Xander. Maybe Giles, because he’s English and kinda quiet, but the others are too noisy.”

“Oh, because you’re being the epitome of quiet,” Willow responded wickedly, and immediately regretted it as Tara rose. “No, Tara, please. Stay. Even if we don’t talk. I – I like having you here.”

Relieved, Tara sat again. She’d been scared that Willow was actually too tired to be with her, but hated the idea of leaving her. Her soulmate was a medicine that could cure all ills, and every moment that she spent with her eased the pain of missing her mother more and more, even though Willow didn’t know about that yet. Still, she would risk Willow’s health for nothing. “I like being here,” she responded, taking Willow’s hand in her own again and rubbing the slim fingers.

Opening her mouth to tell Willow, Tara closed it again. Was she really ready to tell her this? Was Willow well enough?

No more secrets, Tara resolved as the redhead’s eyelids drooped. They both deserved more than that. If she couldn’t expect the truth from her other half, how could she expect it from the rest of the world?

“Will?” Tara whispered, checking that she was still awake.

“I’m awake,” Willow muttered sleepily. “Talking is imminent, remember?”

“Right,” Tara smiled. She took a deep breath. “Willow, while I was gone, something happened.”

Willow’s eyes flew open, and a panicked look that Tara hadn’t seen in a long time entered her eyes. “I – I’m sorry,” she told Tara. “I know that doesn’t mean much, and it doesn’t even begin to make up for what I did, but you need to know that I’m sorry. Please, Tara, say you’ll forgive me.”

“Sssh,” Tara soothed immediately, horrified that she’d allowed those thoughts to be the first to reach Willow’s mind. “It’s not that. We need to talk about that, but this first. It’s not my place to forgive you, but I’m telling you now that I won’t leave you again. I promise you that I won’t.”

“You promise?”

Green eyes sparkled, and Tara’s heart danced. She nodded. “Yes, I promise. I know that you won’t do anything that hurtful again. I trust you.”

Willow nodded in satisfaction. “I trust you, too.” She looked confused. “Tara, when you were gone – where were you?”

“Long story,” Tara told her dryly. “Very, very long.” Hesitantly, she asked, “Can we put that on the to talk about list too, please? I just – I need to sort out a few things in my head first.” Slightly hurt, Willow nodded. Whatever had happened to Tara, it had obviously hurt her a lot. She owed her the right to think things over. After all, it was she who had caused all this mess.

“Thanks,” Tara said gratefully. She gulped as she watched Buffy approach the window, her eyebrows raised in a silent question. Shaking her head at her, Tara smiled in relief as the Slayer backed away unobtrusively.

“What was that about?” Willow asked confusedly.

Tara shook her head. “Don’t worry. Willow, the reason why you fainted was… um… while I was gone, some pretty strange things happened, things that the Elder said would affect our future drastically.”

“The Elder?” Willow asked excitedly. “You actually met an Elder?” As Tara nodded, she shook her head in disbelief. “Boy, this talkage is gonna take a long time.”

“Not too long this time,” Tara said sternly. “The Elder said that an aspect in our future would be children. Conceived magickly.” She decided to leave it at that. Willow was the most intelligent person she’d ever met – it seemed fairer to let her come to the conclusion herself.

The wrinkle that made itself apparent when she was thinking hard appeared in Willow’s forehead, and her lips pursed in concentration. Suddenly, her eyes widened. “Oooohh.”

“Oooohhh,” Tara agreed. “Pretty much my reaction. The others were more ‘huh?’”

“Not surprised,” Willow said weakly. “I’m gonna have a baby. Wow.”

Tara smiled, a smile that seemed to light up the whole room. “Yes, you are.”

“I’m gonna have a baby,” Willow repeated. The corners of her mouth lifted, the indents slowly growing until a grin covered her entire face. “Tara, we’re gonna have a baby!”

Tara? Please can we talk now before I start getting non-talky and panicky? I adore Willowbabble!

I love how calmly Willow reacted to the news. Lovely!

Awwwwwwwwww...A baby. This fiction is wonderful.

I was wondering what direction you were headed into, and I was pleasantly suprised.

Looking forward to more goodness.

That was actually part b and I forgot to edit, oops! Next part should be up shortly, but I'm having to use the family computer to type it up as my laptop decided to go kaput with all my work on it so I've had to type up a load of major essays. LadyCallie, the other fics I've read were Lisa's 'Milestones' and DarkWiccan's 'There You Are'. I don't know if they count though, as they both had Tara pregnant in the prequel. I can't think of any fics where Willow was the first - yes, I can! I remember she had twin girls in one fic,and they didn't find out they had twins until the birth. Does anyone know the name of that?

I'm glad everyone liked the update. I figured there had to be SOME WillowBabble, but I honestly don't think she'll start panicking until it's fully sunk in. Don't worry, though - there will be an update soon. I'm not gonna leave you hanging.

A couple of people have wondered casually about smut in this fic. The fact is, I'm only 16 and I can't really write it. However, there will be a situation later on where I think some smut would be appropriate. Would anyone be interested in helping me to write that particular part? If not, I'm afraid there won't be any. My view is that it's better to have none at all than bad smut, and I'm pretty sure you'd agree. Email me if you're interested.

Tears In Heaven, Part 8c - The Gift

Here it is! Update!

Part 8c - The Gift

“I love you,” Willow whispered, her voice no louder than the murmuring of the wind as she watched Tara sleep. The blonde had pulled her chair as close to the bed as possible in order to be close to Willow, and even now she was almost falling out of it as she rested her head on Willow’s shoulder. The redhead made a very willing pillow as she rested her own head wearily on the blonde’s. Their talk earlier had exhausted her, though she hadn’t admitted it to Tara. Now, her head was so full of thoughts that sleep just seemed incomprehensible.

Willow was well aware that Tara was waiting for the other shoe to drop, if she used one of the meaningless expressions that she’d picked up during her short stay in England. As a rule, Willow Rosenberg didn’t take things lightly, and just a year ago, a revelation like this would have freaked her beyond babbling – an astonishingly uncommon occurrence. Now, though, things were different.

“I nearly lost you,” she told Tara softly, pushing herself up on the pillow with shaky arms and gently placing the blonde’s head in her lap. “I nearly lost you, Tara, and now I’ve got you back again. What was the point, the reason?” she wondered aloud. “We lost you, and the world ended, and now you’re back and the world’s worth living in. There must have been a reason for that.” She took a deep breath. “So the logic in me says that there’s a reason for everything. There’s a reason for the way that I – I treated the world after my world ended.” Closing her eyes, Willow continued painfully. “Somewhere out there someone can give you an explanation for your soulmate turning into a murderer, Tara, but I’ll be damned if I know what it is.” Willow opened her eyes and glanced down, a smile flicking across the pale face. “You can stop pretending to sleep now, Tara.”

“I’m not pretending,” a muffled voice responded as Tara buried her head further in Willow’s lap.

Willow snorted with laughter. “Tare…”

“Okay, okay, maybe I was pretending a little,” Tara admitted reluctantly as she sat up and gently placed a hand on Willow’s belly. “You okay?” she asked quietly, unobtrusively, so the question could be easily ignored.

Leaning her head back against the wall, Willow nodded, and grunted indignantly as head and plaster collided. Tara winced in sympathy as she leant forward, gently rubbing Willow’s head where she had hit it.

Then they were both leaning forward, lips tantalisingly close to each others. Unconsciously, Tara licked her lips, catching her bottom lip between her teeth and keeping it there. “You should be resting,” she murmured, even as she allowed herself to take Willow’s head between her hands.

“I am,” Willow replied, before claiming Tara’s sweet lips with her own.

That kiss seemed to go on forever. To Willow it seemed as though her life flashed before her eyes. When she opened them again, her life was still in front of her, panting slightly, her hair a little ‘mussed up’ as Dawn called it.

Tara was her life.

“I could spend an eternity just kissing you,” Willow murmured, pulling Tara towards her. She obediently clambered out of the chair and, kicking her shoes off, laid along the narrow hospital bed with her head resting on Willow’s lap. Combing her fingers through Tara’s blonde locks, the redhead bent down, once more pressing her lips to Tara’s. As she eventually pulled back, Tara giggled.

“You’re upside down.”

“No, I’m not,” Willow retorted fondly. “You are.”

Shaking her head and rolling her eyes in mock anger, Tara tilted her head back so she could see Willow back properly. “You were having a deep and meaningful conversation with yourself earlier,” she reminded her lover. “Any conclusions drawn from that or was it Willow-reflection?” Some hair fell into her eyes, and she frowned, trying to convince it to move by glaring at it. Her hands were otherwise occupied, as were Willow’s.

Willow smiled and released one of Tara’s hands, pushing the offending hairs out of the way before Tara had the chance to. “It was just Willow-reflection,” she reassured her. “I know you think I’m gonna panic about this, Tara, but this is the Hellmouth.”

Tara froze, the implication of her lover’s words settling in. “You – uh, you think that our baby is a Hellmouth thing?” she asked, hurt. How could Willow even consider that their baby was from the same source of evil?

“No!” Willow exclaimed. “No, no, no, Tara. All I meant that weird things happen on the Hellmouth, and I don’t try to understand them. We just accept it and roll with the punches – speaking metaphorically,” she added hastily, “because I’ve tried the whole fighting with fists thing, and it hurts. That’s Buffy’s role. What I mean is that I’m not gonna try and understand it. I’m just gonna be really, really grateful that someone – or something – decided that we deserved not only to be together again, but also a daughter. There’s a reason for it, and maybe, if I deserve to know, then I’ll find out.”

“Daughter?” Tara asked curiously. “You sure?”

A smile quirked up the corners of her lover’s mouth. “Tara, I’ve changed a lot, but I’m still a science nerd through and through. This is our child. It may be a boy, but I’d be very interested in finding out where the Y-Chromosome came from.”

“Oops,” Tara responded sheepishly. “Forgot that,” she smiled up at Willow. “Smarty pants.”

Willow leant down. She had half-an-hour before Buffy finished work and charged into the hospital room, and she fully intended on spending some quality time with her girlfriend. “Yeah, but you like it,” she replied wickedly.

“Oh, yeah,” Tara responded, and sighed happily.

Tara: There's just so much to work through... and can you just be kissing me now?
