Summary: Our girls are about 25 and have been together for 4 years. Tara’s made a mistake.
Note: Ok I know that neither of our girls would ever do anything like this but the idea hit me as I was watching a play. I thought I’d write it and post it as a standalone. I hope you all like it.
“Willow sweetie, just let me explain.” Tara pleaded.
“Explain what? I saw the damn pictures Tara; they told me everything I wanted to know.” Willow screamed from across the living room.
“I didn’t mean to hurt you I just…” she reached a hand towards Willow.
“Don’t fucking touch me! I don’t want you near me.” Willow jerked away.
“Willow p-please, it was a m-mistake.”
“No stuttering. You only stutter when you’re upset. You don’t have the right to be upset, that belongs to me.” Willow stormed out of the living room.
“Willow baby please just listen. Please?” tears streamed down Tara’s face.
“Ok Tara, talk. I’m listening.” she folded her arms.
“I didn’t mean for anything to happen. I was drunk and I wasn’t thinking clearly. We had just had that big argument about moving. I never meant to hurt you. I’m so sorry if I could take it back I would. I love you.” she stepped closer to Willow.
“You love me huh? Willow laughed bitterly. “You know what Tara? I don’t understand what I didn’t give you. I mean you wanted to live closer to your family, so we moved. You wanted this house, so I bought it. You wanted a Jaguar, so I got you one. I gave you everything you could ever want. I gave you my heart and soul… and this is what I get. You know what? I guess my mother was right: Love isn’t everything.” Willow turned and headed for the front door. She grabbed her keys off the table in the foyer.
“Willow, where are you going?” Tara asked, a hint of panic seeping into her grief stricken voice.
“Elsewhere,”
“Willow please we have to talk about this.”
“I don’t have to talk about shit. And how dare you tell me what I HAVE to do. I will do whatever the hell I please.” Willow looked at Tara, her green eyes flashing dangerously.
“Willow please we need to work this out. I don’t want to lose you over this.” Tara cried softly.
“Yeah well you should’ve thought of that before you fucking cheated on me. You know what I’ve got to get out of here. I don’t even want to see you.” Willow wrenched to door open and left slamming it behind her.
Tara watched her girlfriend leave as tears poured down her face. She walked to the door and rested her forehead against it as she cried for her mistake. Feeling like her heart was being ripped out of her chest she walked to the living room and laid down on the sofa. Her eyes closed and memories of Willow danced through her mind. Her tears doubled as she reached to pull her cell phone from her back pocket. She quickly dialed her best friend numbers.
“Yo sup blondie?” a voice came through the speaker.
“F-Faith, I n-n-need…”
“Tara, what’s wrong? Is it Red?”
“C-Can you c-c-come over?”
“Sure I’ll be right over. What happened?”
“I-I messed up F-Faith. I t-think W-Willow might l-l-leave.”
“You know what, Tare just sit tight ok. I’m on my way. Bye”
Tara sighed and pressed the “End” button on her phone.
Willow walked to her car and leaned heavily against its door. A pained sigh escaped her lips as she unlocked the doors and climbed in. She leaned her head back and took a deep breath before starting the car. Pulling out of the driveway she sped away from her home. The car streaked down the road at about 90 miles an hour. Slowly moisture began to gather in the redheads eyes. She drove aimlessly towards the out skirts of Sunnydale. The car stopped outside a small park where she exited.
Across the park there was a small cluster of trees. Willow looked around the park before making her way towards the trees. Following a small foot path through the trees led her to a small pond. The water sparkled in the evening sunlight. Willow pulled a small stack of photos and a lighter from her back pocket. She put the pictures on the ground in front of her and lit them. The small flames danced merrily across the surface of the pictures burning them to ash. A small sad smile crossed her face as she looked at her surroundings; this place had always calmed her. It was wear she and Tara shared their first kiss and where Tara first said that she loved her. Being there now was bittersweet as her love for her girlfriend and her hurt over Tara’s betrayal warred inside her heart.
Using the side of her shoe she kicked the burning pictures into the pond. She took a seat besides the pond and let her thoughts wander.
Tara got up from the sofa when she heard a knock at the door. She got up from the couch as another knock sounded through the eerily quiet house. She opened the door to find a worried Faith raising her hand to knock again.
“Tara, are you okay?” Faith moved through the doorway and pulled the blonde into a hug.
“No,” Tara whispered. “Faith s-she knows. I-I don’t k-k-know how but s-she has p-pictures.” Tara said as she clung to the other woman.
“Oh god,” Faith said leading them into the living room. “What happened?”
“When she came home t-today she asked if I w-wanted to tell her anything. I said n-n-no and asked her if anything was w-wrong. S-She showed me pictures. Oh god, Faith, she was s-s-so angry. She s-screamed and said she d-didn’t even want to s-see me. She wouldn’t even let me t-touch her.”
“I don’t blame her. You fucked up Tare. Now all you can do is hope that Red can forgive you.” Faith said as gently as she could.
“W-What if she can’t? What if she d-doesn’t want to be w-with me anymore?” Tara’s voice came out as a broken whisper.
“I don’t know, but I do know that Red loves you more than anything. If she’s not back by 11, call me.” Faith stood to leave.
Tara nodded as Faith left.
“I thought I’d find you here.”
“What do you want Faith?” Willow called out without turning around.
“Just came to check on you, make sure you were ok.” Faith walked over to Willow and took a seat beside her. “I just came from talking to Tara.”
“I hope you’re not here to talk me into going back home right now.” Willow’s eyes remained locked on the glistening surface of the pond. “I just can’t be there right now, it hurts.”
“I know Red, and I’m not here to talk you into anything. I just thought I’d come see about you.”
“You knew, didn’t you?” Willow’s voice was quiet, it wasn’t an accusation.
“Yeah Red, I knew. I promised T that I wouldn’t say anything. She came to me upset and crying, I thought it was the right thing to do.”
“It probably was; I just don’t understand Faith. I mean, what was that I didn’t do? Maybe I didn’t pay her enough attention. I’ve been working a lot lately, maybe she felt neglected. Was that it Faith?” The redhead looked to Faith with tear-filled emerald eyes.
“I don’t know Red, but I do know that Tara loves you. She’s sorry, I know that doesn’t change what she did but it’s something. Right now she’s probably crying her eyes out because she thinks you won’t come back.” Faith looked at Willow with sympathy. “She thinks this will stop you from loving her.”
“WHAT? No I could never stop loving her. NEVER! I’m upset but I didn’t want her to think that I didn’t…”
“I know but that’s where she is right now. I’m probably not the best person to talk to about relationships but I think you two need to talk.” Faith stood up and turned to leave. “Think about it Red.”
Willow turned her eyes back to the pond as a soft pained sigh escaped from her lips. Faith’s footsteps fading into the distance as she stared at the warm glow the setting sun cast off the pond.
It was 1:30 in the morning, the house looked deathly quiet as Willow approached it. Taking a deep breath she climbed the pathway to the door. With a shaking hand, she put the small silver key into the lock and opened the door. The house was still and all the lights were off. Quietly, Willow climbed the stairs to her bedroom. The room was completely dark except for a single candle that burned on the far side of the room. Willow looked towards her a bed where a huddled shaking figure slept restlessly. Tara was curled onto the bed clutching one of Willow’s shirts close to her face. A small sad smile worked its way onto Willow’s features. Kneeling beside the bed she lovingly moved Tara’s hair out of her face.
“Beautiful,” Willow breathe out quietly as her fingers caressed Tara face. She leaned forward and placed a small kiss on the blonde’s forehead. She pulled back to see confused blue eyes blinking up at her.
“Willow?”
“Yeah baby, it’s Me.” she moved her fingers to Tara’s cheek.
“I didn’t think you’d come back.” Tara admitted softly.
“I don’t really have anywhere else to go. I thought about skipping town for awhile but I decided I’d rather be here.”
“I’m sorry.” Tara’s voice came out as a pained whisper.
“I know I am too.” Willow stated softly.
“Why are you sorry? You didn’t do anything.” Tara’s confused voice choked out.
“I’m sorry for not listening this morning, for thinking of just packing my stuff and leaving, and for not loving you enough.” a single tear fell from Willow’s eye as she dropped her head.
“Willow NO! Don’t say that. That’s not why this happened. Please don’t think that.” Tara sat up quickly placing her hand under Willow’s chin and gently lifted her head.
“Why not? It has to be true. No matter how hard I try I’m always messing up.”
“Willow sweetie, look at me. The way you love me is more than anyone deserves. And I wish that none of this had ever happened. I’m sorry I didn’t consider all this before I agreed to go out with… her. I didn’t mean for it to go that far but we were drinking I wasn’t thinking clearly. I was upset about the fight and I just wanted to forget. I never meant to hurt you. And I didn’t want you to question our love. If anyone should be sorry for not loving enough, it should be me. I’m sorry I didn’t love you enough to believe that we could work through anything.”
“I guess we have a lot to talk about.”
“I guess so. I hope you can forgive me. I love you so much; I don’t want to lose you.” Tara’s bottom lip trembled slightly.
“Shh baby,” Willow leaned forward and kissed her girlfriend lightly. “We have a lot to talk about… but not tonight. Tonight I just want to let myself forget everything except how much I love you. We’ll get through this, starting tomorrow.”
