Just started reading this fic..bit of a late comer obviously.

This is sooooo good. Yay for the updates. I'm not exactly one for patience.

This is turning out so wonderfully, and I have to say that I love the fact that you posted so soon, despite your worries of spoiling us. I feel I am living in this world as I read about it, and I loved the mutual thing between Willow and Tara's actions, brilliant!

Well..you've got a real page turner here...I'm enjoying your development of their 'new' relationship and all the pitfalls of uncertainty they seem to be falling into. Willow is so much more tangible here as she exists from Tara's point of view, a kind of anomaly - who is this strange girl with this strange background? I'm sure Willow would appreciate being the "mystery" girl for once! And the substance you've given Tara, from her reading problems (a more common concern than is usually known), to her multiple duties around the campus, all tied into her emotional development - the dating issue, for one. It's all believable and relevant and surprisingly touching (especially in this last chapter, pun most definitely intended ).



As for the 'Joss' issue - I feel sorry for the guy. He doesn't stand a chance. He never did.

Lovely. I'm with Mollyig, you described their approach to their situation perfectly, each reflecting their personalities yet achieving the same conclusion. Looking forward to how they act on it though.



Interesting how this is a S3 AU fic yet there are similarities with NMR in that Willow still has to choose whilst really already knowing that she has left Oz.

Mollyig – Yep, that’s it exactly. The way they would both do it but both come to the same answer. Did you ever notice that no matter how you approach a question, the answer is the same? Now they just have to work through their questions to get there.



Piper – Yeah someone got it at least. My partner was concerned that I was too vague and wasn’t explicit enough with the last sentence of each section. So glad that you got it. Cookie to you. And that you like their character development. I think that Willow knows she is mystery girl but is afraid to alienate Tara by telling her the truth. Afraid to look nuts.



Sonya – Seems like a few days since a post/comment from you? Can’t remember. Glad you liked the parrallel. Hmmm, not really intending NMR parallell but I guess it’s just there from the reality of having to get rid of Oz once Willow chooses Tara. I’ve seen fics where Oz is just plain a terrible guy or gets killed or something but I don’t think that’s in his character or in Willow’s. I believe that she is a loyal and loving person and needs to do the right thing. So hopefully she will soon .

Hi Debra, yeah its been a couple of days since I posted feedback, sorry about that. Letting things get on top of me, and not in the good way! But fear not dear writer, loyal reader here.



But I wanted to say how I agree with you about Willow being a loyal and loving person. You see her loyalty so evident in her friendships and her loving nature is a credit to how she is able to listen to her heart despite her parents influence or lack of. And I think Tara, both in the series and in your fic, is able to clearly see this and as such is drawn to her. (of course..) So yes, her handling of Oz I feel will reflect this. Intrigued and looking forward to how you will portray it.

It's so like Willow to write everything down like that. I am a little concerned about Oz, though. It seems (in this story) like Willow was never that attached to him, whereas, in the show, she definitely was. I feel like she's letting him go way too easily (just my opinion, of course) here. Not that I don't want him out of the picture, but I just wonder whether Willow should be agonizing more about it.

Grimaldi – Yes, let’s hope so, that they both do something about it. And yes, same conclusion but how could anyone have a different one?



Cath – Such language young lady Don’t worry about Michelle; she’s just there for some interest and exposition. Remember the Kitten board rules: W/T love forever. I’m on board with that (no pun intended). You don’t have to be patient, all thing being equal, I expect to post before morning.

Sonya – Sorry that things have gotten on top of you. I hate when that happens. It’s one of my little quirks that I get feeling overwhelmed and then get crazy so sorry that you’re feeling that way. But glad that you got back. Hopefully this post is a note that you are getting on top of it .



Glad you agree about the loyal. Yes, I think that it’s one of her total characteristics. Thanks a ton for your feedback, particularly since your time or lack of it.



Yana – Interesting point about is Willow as attached to Oz here as she was in the series. I certainly don’t think that she is. But if you think about it, by the time Oz leaves in s4, things are much different than they are here. In season 4, they have been through much much more. They have weathered all of s3 including the events of lover’s walk and then their reconciliation in amends. They have made love and then defeated the mayor. Presumably, they spent the summer together and then were together for let’s say six weeks of their freshman year before he leaves. That seems to me like a pretty stable basis for a relationship, and about 2 years in time.



But in my fic, she left before the start of s3. That means that they dated for about half the 2nd season (first really meeting in What’s my Line) and also the summer. As far as I can tell, they weren’t in love and we know that they weren’t sexually intimate. So I believe that while she was fond of him, it wasn’t the relationship that he left in s4. In fact, I’d time it to about 8 months rather than 2 years. Also, note that while there are references in this story to Willow talking to Buffy, we never hear that she has talked to Oz. Buffy tells her that he is repeating his senior year and that he got out of his cage in B&B. So the relationship is pretty shaky.



Anyway, I’m not trying to defend Willow’s actions or what we expect her actions to be but I do think that this is an AU and her relationship with him is different. Nonetheless, I truly appreciate your feedback. As I was saying in an earlier post, sometimes the feedback really helps me to note if I am moving too fast or slow and perhaps make some changes. I really appreciate the opinion so keep them coming.



Oh yeah, BTW, the redshirt particularly confused me since the only definition I know of it is from college athletics where an athlete takes a year off from participating in games either because of injury or to grow older and bigger and saves a year of eligibility. Didn’t really fit here huh?

Hey--Been following this story for awhile now; sorry I haven't written before to let you know. I'm a country girl myself, so I have to say that I really like the setting and the ambience...plucks a few strings on the ol' homesick guitar. But my oh my...Tara in boots; Tara on a horse; Tara swinging down off of a horse; Tara with straw in her hair; and if you'll excuse me I'm just going to have a little moment with myself...



The thing that I really wanted to respond to was the very astute line of reasoning you gave Tara: if she went out w/ Michelle, that would actually represent a date: to both people and quite probably to Willow as well. Somehow, Joss (cute name, by the by) is a sort of harmless, neutral option.



So--very much enjoying this, and planning to give feedback more regularly.

Since the dorm had a curfew, Willow knew that Tara would be home from her Saturday date by 11:00. Willow waited until about 11:30 to head up to the blonde’s room. As she climbed the stairs, she realized that she had never been to Tara’s room. She only had her description from the first day that it was “at the top”. That description was totally true and she could feel the heat building as she passed from one level to the next, even in late October and this late in the night. As she stepped onto the top floor, she saw Tara ahead of her walking back to her room from the restroom. Rather than yelling out so late at night, she followed and then knocked on the blonde’s door. When no answer came from within, she knocked again and again.



Finally, she turned the knob, calling out, “Tara,” and entered the empty room. Ok, call me crazy, I just watched her walk in here . Seeing the open window, she moved across the room. She looked through the window realizing that it opened onto the roof of the building. Tara lay on a blanket under the stars her head on a pillow. It was obvious to Willow that she did this frequently as she had an entire setup including a travel clock and a reading lamp. Playfully she called across the roof, “hey, is that the type of accommodations they give scholarship students here?”



Tara looked up surprised and smiled broadly, “Willow! Come out and look at the stars with me. They’re beautiful.”



Willow climbed out the window, dropping to the roof and crossing toward the blonde: “Yeah, it’s beautiful out here. Is it safe?”



Tara laughed, “Of course, I’ve been sleeping out here part time for 4 years. The vampires don’t like the country air.”



Willow froze at Tara’s words did she just say vampires??? , “What?”



“Snappy answer Rosenberg. Come sit with me,” Tara teased again.



As Willow joined Tara on the makeshift bed she asked as politely as she could, “So how was your date?”



The blonde smiled before making a sneering face, “All about football and college choices. I’d much rather have been with you. What did you do?”



“I broke up with Oz.”



“What?” What? “Why?” Why? Tara asked and echoed in her thoughts.



“Well, I. Remember the other day when I was saying that I hadn’t talked to him in weeks. Well, I really hadn’t thought about him either and I guess it just ran out its lifespan. Plus which I’m here and he’s there you know and … ” Willow finished somewhat lamely.



“Oh, so not because he’s a werewolf?” Tara asked.



“What? What did you say?”



“I said you didn’t break up with him because he’s a werewolf? Or is he a vampire? No, I think werewolf,” Tara continued. Oh goddess, that look you get on your face when you are totally shocked is so adorable. Hey Maclay, how about some compassion for your friend? Maybe she’s having a hard time.



Willow sputtered semi-incoherently, “Did you say? Did you say?” yes she said. She knows. Oh Goddess, she’s looking at me. Those blue eyes. Ok, focus. Answer her . “No not because he’s a werewolf. He was one when we started dating. Or at least by our third date or so. How did you know?”



Taking the redhead’s hand, Tara looked deeply into her eyes, “Ok, confession time. I’m going to make a series of guesses and you can tell me what’s wrong if you want. Ok?”



Willow nodded silently.



“Ok. Here goes. First, you’re a practicing witch like me. Buffy is the vampire slayer. Her new friend Faith is also a vampire slayer although honestly I don’t get that because there’s supposed to be only one. Oz is a werewolf. Buffy’s boyfriend or ex-boyfriend or whatever is a vampire and well, I don’t know what Xander or Cordelia are.”



As Tara spoke, Willow showed more and more shock. So much so that Tara actually sent a little healing energy through the connection of their hands. “Hey Will, can you answer?”



“Xander’s a human. Cordelia’s a bitch but a human bitch.”



“Willow Rosenberg, your language,” Tara admonished playfully. “And the rest?”



“Yes. I mean: me Witch, you Witch, Buffy slayer, Faith slayer, Oz werewolf, Angel vampire or he was: Buffy killed him. Giles the librarian is Buffy’s watcher. That means that he trains her. How did you know?”



Tara smiled again, “Will, you’re not that great at secrets and your stories start not making that much sense. Plus when you were floating the feather, pencil, and shoes, I could feel you. You got in my spell. I didn’t know it was you at the time but I figured it out. Plus which, once our spells got tangled, I started being able to feel the magical energy.”



“You didn’t tell me.”



“I wanted to give you a chance to tell me,” Tara explained.



“Wow, shock here. Ok. That makes sense,” she agreed.



As Willow began to relax, Tara asked, “so why did you break up with Oz?”



Willow got up and started to pace around the roof. Oh Goddess, how do I? Can I? Oh Goddess. Ok, deep breath



Seeing her friend starting to walk herself into total panic, Tara pleaded, “Willow, just come over here and talk to me.”



Willow dropped to the blanket, taking another deep breath: “Ok, yeah. Why did I break up with Oz? Well, like I said I wasn’t ever thinking about him and really didn’t want to be with him any more. And I mean I wanted to be available if there was someone else to be with or someone else to want to be with or well, not that there is, or not that I would know if someone else wanted to be with me but what if there was and I really wanted to be with that someone else and …” The Willow babble was cut short by the feel of very soft lips pressed against hers.



After a few of the greatest seconds of her life, Willow pulled back to see incredible blue eyes looking at her. “Wow,” she gasped.



“Yeah, wow Willow,” Tara agreed, hugging the redhead tightly to her body.

Tara figured it out fast enough though, heh. Doubt Willow will mind the answer/confirmation. At least Willow now has someone on campus to really talk with about what happened at home and do other things with of course

Really enjoyed part 9! Tara's taking all this stuff about Willow (werewolves and vampires and monsters, oh my!) in stride, yet the thing about breaking up with Oz catches her off guard. Gee, I wonder why. The last scene with the kiss on the roof was really sweet!

I have a question regarding the whole boarding school thing. I'm not really familiar with boarding and/or private schools and was wondering whether it's common to have co-ed ones. All the ones I hear about (granted, most of my sources are movies and TV shows, which don't exactly represent the real world) are usually all female or all male...
