FIC: The Trials

Disclaimer: The usual. Willow and Tara aren’t my characters, they’re Joss’s.

Rating: PG-13.

Feedback: Oh yes please! If you wanna email any comments to me then my email address is hopie_25@hotmail.com

Summary: I wrote this quite a while ago (and it’s my one and only Willow/Tara fic to date). I have 2 parts so far and I think that’s all I will be doing in this particular fic. Basically, Willow is thrown into jail because she’s a witch, she meets Tara here (she’s her cell mate) and the story evolves from there basically. In part 2 (which I have put at the end of part one instead of posting it as another story) I feel the writing is not as good, I basically just wanted to have some kind of conclusion. I won’t explain what happens in part two because it may spoil some of the story in part one. Enjoy!

The Trials

"You can't arrest me, I haven't done anything wrong!" cried Willow. She tried her best to hide her tears. "Witchcraft is wrong, Miss Rosenberg." The man pushed Willow into the cell and banged the door shut. As Willow turned around she noticed a blonde girl looking at her from the corner of the room, it appeared she had a roommate. "Hi" said Willow, still upset. The girl smiled and nodded shyly. "Why are you here?" asked Willow, now intrigued by the girl.

"W-w-witchcraft" she answered, followed by an embarrassed, nervous look. Willow couldn't help but notice how extremely cute her smile was. She looked at the girls face, shadowed by the darkness, and she smiled.

The girl glanced at Willow, who was still standing in the middle of the cell. Willow noticed the girl looking at her and sat down on the bed across from her. It was a really hard bed, certainly not your 4-star cherry corner suite. "Oh, I'm Willow" she blurted out, remembering that she hadn't even introduced herself.

"Tara" replied the girl. Tara, what a beautiful name, thought Willow, and she grinned slightly.

"Lights out!" screamed the guard. A fat woman with black hair came marching through the corridor banging on the cell doors. Since there was no light on in the cell Willow decided she better go to bed. "Night time?" she asked.

"Night time" replied Tara.

***

Willow awoke early the next morning, she sat glaring at Tara. She looked so peaceful; Willow couldn't help but smile.

The guard appeared again "Everyone up! Time for breakfast."

Tara jumped up in fright and began to change her clothes. It occurred to Willow that she had slept in the same clothes the previous night.

"I have no nightwear!" she exclaimed.

"Oh, no, you do! It's in your drawer, the bottom one."

Willow pulled out the drawer, and, staring back at her, was a dreadful blue nightshirt.

"Eww!" cried Willow.

"You get used to it," replied Tara, pulling on her trousers.

"How long have you been here Tara?" asked Willow anxiously.

"Oh, only a week, but it feels like forever". Willow noticed that Tara wasn't stuttering like she had the day before. She continued...

"The trials are next month so we only have a month, unless they stop them".

Willow was unsure about what she meant, "Trials?" she asked.

"The w-witchcraft trials" replied Tara, stuttering over her w's. Willow thought it was incredibly sweet when she stuttered. Her face glowed afterwards lighting up her pale face so Willow could see her better. It occurred to Willow that she hadn't seen Tara in the light before.

Tara finished dressing, "Breakfast now".

Willow nodded as Tara led the way.

***

They were in a lit area now and Willow had full view of Tara. She had shoulder length blonde hair that fell in front of her face when she put her head down. She was beautiful. She had the bluest eyes Willow had ever seen.

Tara sat across from Willow smiling as she ate her meal. Bits of food were left on the corner of her mouth and Willow had to resist the temptation to wipe them off.

Willow had never felt this way about a woman before; she found it strange but fascinating. She wondered if Tara felt the same way. She stretched her legs out slightly and accidentally touched Tara's knee, she pulled her knee back and she started blushing. Tara looked her right in the eye and smiled, her eyes glowing. Willow had never seen her smile like that before; it was a truly happy smile as if to say that she had liked the touch of Willow's knee.

***

The guard slammed the cell door shut. "Breakfast was better than I expected,"

Willow sounded shocked, as if she had expected cardboard food.

"It's not like that everyday. S-sometimes it's really yucky".

Willow grinned as she said "yucky". She hadn't heard that word much. Could Tara be

more adorable? she thought to herself.

"What's so funny?" asked Tara, assuming Willow was grinning at her stutter.

"Oh sorry. I - yucky. It's not a word I hear very often. It's" she paused. She couldn't

help herself; she looked Tara directly in the eyes, "cute."

"Cute? Yucky is cute?" Tara frowned; the lines on her forehead were...cute.

"Um" replied Willow, confused. She seemed to be stuck in this conversation, there

was no way out.

"S-sorry" stuttered Tara.

"Sorry? Why? You haven't done anything wrong." Willow felt as if she had upset Tara. That was the last thing she wanted to do.

"I - you were. I thought you were making a fool of me". Tara drooped her head.

"No". Willow sat beside her. Tara was needing reassurance. Willow lifter her hand and placed it softly on Tara's back. It felt warm, nice.

"I'm sorry. It's my fault. I didn't mean to." Willow was inches away from Tara. She could feel her body heat; she could feel her heart beating. Tara lifted her head to meet Willow's. They were face to face...alone. "I" muttered Tara, staring into Willow's eyes. Willow was leaning towards Tara, moving closer to her face. Tara started to move in towards Willow. Willow moved her hand across the bedcover and her fingers touched Tara's, she tilted her head and their lips met. Willow's heart sped up and she felt as if she couldn't breathe, the moment was so intense.

Just then the guard started walking towards the cell. Tara turned away from Willow and didn't speak. "Shit!" thought Willow, I scared her off, and she's totally freaked. The guard didn't shout anything this time; she just marched along the corridor looking into the cells. Willow was still sitting on Tara's bed, she realised her hand was still above Tara's, she hadn't pulled it away. The guard reached their cell and Willow lifted her hand from Tara's bed and jumped over to her own, the guard passed and Willow listened to her go. She glanced at Tara, the silence was unbearable, she longed to be near Tara, to touch her, to kiss her again.

The door at the end of the corridor slammed shut and both girls jumped. Tara let out a "huh" silently, in shock, making Willow more eager to be close to her. Tara's head moved up and she looked at Willow, the second she realised that Willow was staring at her she lowered her head again, making Willow feel kind of sad inside. She didn't know whether to apologise or stay silent. She opened her mouth..."Tara" she whispered softly. The blonde raised her head; her cheeks were flushed but her eyes bright. Tara waited...

"Sorry".

Tara seemed alarmed at the apology, "N-no Willow".

Willow frowned in confusion, "No?" she asked.

"No need to say sorry" replied Tara. Her lip rose at one corner forming a sexy half-smile. Willow raised her head to look at Tara. Had she enjoyed the kiss? Should Willow move closer? She couldn't decide what to do, she glanced at Tara again. She was leaning forward nearer to Willow. Willow, in return, moved to the edge of her bed and leaned in. Their lips touched again and Willow felt warm. Tara's hand touched Willow's hair; she caressed it slowly with her hand. Willow, in turn, moved her hand onto Tara's back to pull her closer. Could this moment be more passionate? Thought Willow.

Being with Tara made Willow glad that she had been arrested. If she hadn't she would never have met her. She wished she could do a spell to get them both out and they could run away together. Actually, that wasn't such a bad idea. She slowly pulled away from Tara and opened her eyes, "Tara" she whispered. Tara opened her eyes and looked at Willow, "We could get out of here, we could run away, we could be free". It was aware to Willow that she was going to start babbling so she stopped.

"How" asked Tara, "How would we get out?"

"Witchcraft" said Willow, with a glow in her eyes.

"Like some sort of escape spell?" asked Tara, now interested.

"Yeah, we could"

"But they'd come after us. We would be brought back again. We'd never get away". Tara sounded concerned. If they used magic then they'd definitely know they were witches and they'd be killed. Tara didn't want to die, not now.

"I never thought of that," muttered Willow as her dream began to die.

"I suppose we could", Tara stopped mid-sentence.

"What?"

"We could make a spell to get us somewhere far away, abroad somewhere. Nobody would think we were abroad and they couldn't find us. We'd be in another country". Tara smiled.

"Then we can come back after the trials have been forgotten about and nobody would remember us". They both smiled, hope was growing. Neither of them wanted to die. This way they'd be alive, and together.

"When?" asked Tara anxiously. "Tonight?"

"You wanna do it tonight, we'll do it tonight!"

The two witches smiled at each other.

***

"...consensco, evaca". The prison began to spin.

***

Willow opened her eyes. She was lying in the middle of a desert. Tara lay beside her, eyes still closed. "Tara" whispered Willow as she shook her gently on the shoulder, "Tara it worked".

Tara's eyes opened slowly, she saw Willow looking at her with a smile on her face. "It worked Tara, it worked!"

"Where are we?" asked Tara, looking around.

"Not sure. Somewhere deserty".

"Guess we should look for somewhere to stay" said Tara, then she paused. A worried look appeared on her face. "I have no money".

Willow smiled, "I do!"

Tara frowned, "How?"

"I was out in town when the policeman brought me in. I have enough money for a few days, then I guess we'll have to look for work". They helped each other to their feet and started walking. About 20 minutes or so later they found a hotel. The prices were rather expensive but it'd do.

***

"We only have one room left. The honeymoon suite"

Willow turned to Tara, "That okay Tara?"

"Oh yes" replied Tara, as the witches grinned at each other.

"We'll take it".

***

They were led up to their room and they paid the maid.

"Nice!" exclaimed Willow, glancing around. They had the room with a view, an en-suite bathroom, king-size double bed... everything.

"Honeymoon suite" said Tara, almost whispering.

Willow grinned, "It's gorgeous isn't it?"

Tara looked directly into Willow's eyes. "Very. What I see is very gorgeous." She turned away, "The room's not bad either".

Willow walked across the room towards Tara, "Why don't we make the most of it?" She kissed Tara gently on the lips.

Tara held Willow's hand as they walked over to the bed, "Let's break it in!" She lowered Willow onto the bed and they made love...

END OF PART ONE..............

"The Trials - Part 2"

Willow awoke to find Tara looking out of the open window. Her blonde hair blowing in the wind, her face glowing in the sun.

        "Tara", said Willow.

Tara jumped, turning round in surprise. "Oh sorry, did I wake you?"

"No. How long have you been up?" asked Willow drowsily.

"About an hour, I couldn't sleep".

Willow frowned, "Was it me, did I snore or something?" Tara grinned, she walked over to the bed and sat down in front of Willow. "I was just thinking about my family, wondering if I'll ever see them again, wondering if they'll ever want to see me again". Willow put her hand on Tara's shoulder, "Of course they'll want to see you. You'll get to see them soon, once we find out if the trials have stopped. I promise". Tara smiled, putting her hand on Willow's, "I love you Willow".

Willow grinned at Tara, "I love you too Tara". The witches smiled at each other.

"What are we gonna do today?" asked Tara.

"I thought we'd maybe look around the place, maybe see if there’s any jobs’ going. That sound okay to you?" Tara nodded.

***

They walked hand in hand through the streets checking for staff vacancies. About half an hour had gone past when they found a small newsagents. They were looking for someone to help out for a while. One of the regular workers was in hospital, it didn't say why. "What about that Willow?" asked Tara.

"They only need one person" replied Willow, sounding disappointed. She turned round and held Tara's hands, "I wanna be with you, Tara". Tara smiled and freed one of her hands. Caressing Willows cheek she replied, "It's all we've found so far. We've been walking for half an hour".

Willow nodded, "Why don't we walk a little while more and see if we find anything else?"

"Ok".

***

They continued walking through the empty streets. They didn't speak; they just searched the shops for notices. Willow took the shops on the left and Tara took the right.

Tara stopped suddenly, "Willow, look!" Willow turned around. In front of her stood a small, brightly decorated florists. On the door was a bright red A4 sheet of paper containing the words "FLORIST WANTED. NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. APPLY WITHIN".

"You always wanted to be a florist, didn't you?"

        "Yeah, my childhood dream".

The witches walked towards the door and entered. A tall, brown haired woman came forward. "Can I help you?"

Willow drew herself away from the flowers, "I saw the notice on the door, about the florist job".

The woman's face brightened, "Oh? I was beginning to think nobody would come. That notice has been on the door for weeks. If you want the job it's yours". Willow's mouth formed a huge grin, "Oh yes. I want the job!"

"Well. I'll need to make a rota for you. Can you come back in a few days and we can sort out everything needed?" Willow nodded enthusiastically and the two women left the shop. "Oh wow!" exclaimed Willow, "I got the job!"

"I could try for the newsagents. I doubt if I'll be as lucky as you though".

Willow turned to Tara, "I have faith in you. If I can get a job as easy as that then so can you. That spell brought us here for a reason. There's a future for us here and nothing can change that okay". She kissed Tara softly on the lips, "Okay?"

"Okay" replied Tara, "Lets go and get me a job".

***

"Do you have any experience?" Her glasses balanced on the tip of her nose, her hair waved like the ocean.

"N-no" replied Tara nervously, fiddling with her hands. Willow, who was sitting beside Tara, placed her hand on hers and squeezed it reassuringly.

"You do know it wouldn't be long term? Just a few months till Bertha comes back". Tara nodded; Bertha must've been the name of the woman who was in hospital.

"Well, I think you'll do fine. Can you start tomorrow? Say 9:00?"

"Yeah. Tomorrow's fine" replied Tara, positively beaming.

***

Tara awoke early, she was eager to make a good impression at the newsagents. She was happy, but she was also very nervous. Her stutter may be a problem and she was worried people may make a fool of her.

Tara turned around to look at Willow for one more time before she got dressed. She loved to sit and watch Willow sleep. Sometimes she'd just sit there and watch her for hours. She looked so peaceful.

***

Tara stood, staring at the shop door. Her boss had left for half an hour and Tara was left in charge. The door opened, it was Willow.

        "Hi" said Tara, smiling widely.

"Hi. How's my little worker?" She walked up to Tara reaching over the counter for a morning kiss. "You left early this morning. I've missed you". Tara smiled.

        "You're my first customer actually".

Willow looked up, "Really?" Well, I'll need to buy something then". She looked around the shop. She picked up a chocolate bar, a bottle of champagne, and a box of the most expensive chocolates she could find.

"Champagne AND chocolates? Are we celebrating something today?" Tara smiled as she scanned the goods in.

"There was something yeah. You see, the person I love has started a new job and I was thinking I'd do something special".

"Oh. They must be really lucky".

Willow smiled, looking deeply into Tara's eyes, "I'm the lucky one". They both grinned and at that moment Tara's boss returned.

***

Willow sat the champagne glasses down by the bed, the champagne sat close by in an ice bucket. She had spent a lot of time perfecting everything. The lights, the rose petals on the bed, the romantic music, the candles. If she was gonna celebrate with Tara, they might as well do it right. She sat, checking the door every few seconds awaiting Tara’s arrival.

***

The next morning the two witches couldn’t stop smiling as they made their way to their work, it seemed that the world and everyone in it wanted things between them to work out. By chance they had met, avoided death and had managed to get work in a small but rather exotic country far away from the prying eyes of the public. For both of them, it was perfect bliss. They were living in heaven.

THE END.
